Very nice Mino. You captured the vegetation and water very nicely. A lot to see and admire. Nice one.

Very nice Mino, great work, nice figures. I have one quibble though, the recoil-less rifle. I don't think they would mount one on an LSSC. Besides the weight, the back-blast from that weapon would be a serious danger to the crew. It does look mean though. Al

Hey Mino, really nice diorama you built there. Your ground work came out fine. Only thing you might add next time could be some roots spreading down towards the water. I like the depth look, as you can see the river bottom drop off into the depth of the dark bottom. Exceptionaly well done. I checked out your link but unfortunitly I don't understand Spanish. Could you explain as to how you did your boats wake, it is fantastic. I really like the bow wave as it curls up and forward like it normally does; something many forget. I have not had great finishes with that aspect, so a little more explination would be of great help for me and more than likely others. The only thing I would add other than what has been said would be some footprints in the mud and get rid of the F.M. cassett player. Any fast/hard turns, and it would be overboard or maybe in the way at the wrong time. But all in all, very well done.

Nicely done!
One more thing along with all that's been mentioned. The troops on shore would be facing out, looking into the jungle. That's where the threat will be.
Turn the kneeling guy, and the guy with the bloop gun around. Turn the guy with the shot gun 90 degrees. Then it will make more sense.

Mino: great dio! I really like the scene and your work. However, I agree with G that some of the figures need to face the jungle.

Thanks for all your comments, i dont know if its possible for an LSSC to carry a recoiless rifle, i saw it on a MSSC, but i think its posible the recoiless rifle are heavyest than the LSSC can carry.
The troops looking into the jungle is a good idea, the only reason because i put them looking into the boat is the posibility of looking them better.
Its my first time with water, i try to explain how i done it (for me is difficult in english..i hope you can understand it).
First i buil the base with poliuretano piece, put into a frame, cut the boat space and put it inside. Then i sell all with silicone.
The second, i add DAS modelling material over it, and model the board waves like in some pictures i saw.
When the DAS is dry, i paint it with the airbrush, trying that it looks like in the real water, depth, etc.
The third, when the paint its dry i add some, Realistic Water by Woodland scenics, in some times, in order to dry all the layers. When the layers are dry i pain some waterweeds too.
When the Water is ready, i use some Vallejo Water Effects to simulate the foam, first i use it alone, and then combined with a few green acrilic Vallejo colour. Its important to model it with a toothpick or similar to the better foam simulation. I add some foam with a brush in order to simulate the drops and the smaller foam over the water.
And that´s all, I wish you can understad my bad english a the post can help somebody.
Thanks everybody!!!

Mino, montar un .50 o una ametralladora M134 en lugar de la 106 y se le de oro.

Hi,
Your diorama is great. The water effects but also the composition. It has a lot of dynamic. When i look at it i think i can hear the engine sound which is disturbing the silence of the jungle.
And these four guys i hope they are awere that their feets will be wet i a few seconds.

About the recoiless rifle, its true, the only boat that carries it, is the HSSC, the heaviest one, i see some pictures of it, im thinking on remove it from the LSSC and change it for .50 or simiar...

I like it alot Mino.
I thought the recoiless rifle looked a little odd on the boat, but I do agree with Al that it does look mean. For the figures I would only turn the 2 holding weapons to face the jungle, just my opinion. As for everything else I think you have done an exellent job on it all, foilage, water effect, detail and painting.
My hat's off to you.

Like this a lot. Well done on the painting and groundwork.
Thank you for your explanation of how you did the water. This has helped a lot as I have never done water before and have an upcoming project involving water.
Cheers

Overall, very well done.
Others have already mentioned the recoilless rifle...definitely a no-no on this craft.
My only other quibble would be the painting of the uniforms. The tiger stripe uniform had a different cut, different pockets, etc., than the ERDL camo uniform. You've painted the shotgunner, who has the ERDL uniform, with tiger stripes, and the kneeling guy with the Stoner, who has the Tiger Stripe uniform, with ERDL camo. The camo itself, in both cases, looks great, but the cuts, pocket arrangements, etc., of the real uniforms were different.

Probably one of the better dios that I have seen but I like the vegetation and the water the best. Love the way you have the plants underwater and the waterplants above water drifting with the current. The wake and the bow wave are just wonderful as well. Excellent work my friend,I agree about the figs though,Spec Ops alway have 360 degree security and since they have weapones at the ready they are obviously still "hot" and so would have the security in place.

Hi Mino,
A very good scene. I agree with the comments about the re-coil less rifle and altering a couple of figures.
The remainder is very well done indeed.
Cheers

Greetings once again from the River,
Here are some technical notes about the items on your diorama, first and foremost however I am a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer with over 20 years of hands on experience with various weapons including the SEAL and Communist forces as seen in the RVN.
The 106mm Rec. Rifle is actually a 105mm round diameter, re-designated "106" so as not to confuse the type of ammunition which is breach facing discharge to cause a recoiless effect. The resulting discharge extends out almost as far as the muzzle blast which will burn anything in its path to a cinder. Infact you have mentioned the Heavy SSC was the only type of Riverine craft to be armed in such a way and the R/R was lashed to the Helo pad as a common close-in defensive weapon. A story of the VC getting too close to the breach back blast is in fact true as it happened more than once before the VC could figure out why their guys were turned into crispy critters while assaulting the HSSC.
Another detail you might want to think about, blue Levis were popular with boat crews and SEALs alike and were OK to wear with whatever cammo was worn. Personnaly I wore the totally unauthorized, (in the US) Tiger Stripes of the Special Forces and once in a while total civilian clothing for special occassions, which were basically, blue Levis, a green tee shirt and jungle hat. One other note, the Special Warfare Group was just that, boat crews and SEALs went through similar training and boat crews had SEAL instructors that concentrated on supporting the SEALs at the NavSpecWar school near San Francisco at Mare Island. And the best of all is that you have many of us that would be glad to help you with such subjects as the Riverine forces. For myself anyway it is kind of theraputic to share the info here, but I have stopped building anything Vietnam related, too much.
All the best,
GMC John M. Staehle, USN (Ret.)

Johncpo, thanks for your advices, i was tempted on blue levis when i paint the figures, but i dont want to modify the trousers, but in fact its a very good idea, maybe the next time. Now im starting an M706 armored car and a marines patrol team dio, but in the future ill continue the riverime theme, maybe a pebber or another boat. I wish you help me with your huge experience in the theme. Thanks a lot for everybody for pour comments!!!
