Lol. Glad I could make a difference. Unfortunately, I ran out of Modern Desert Sand and I had to buy regular Model Master Sand jar paint which is more brown and less yellow than Modern Desert Sand... So I've had to make corrections with a rather noticeable color.... But I've been able to mix Military brown, Light Grey, Yellow, and Sand (all MM colors except for the Yellow which is regular Testors) to make a color which is very close to Modern Desert Sand.
I had some trouble fitting part S7 into the spot on the commanders cupola but I fixed it. I also am having trouble fitting the gun and the upper and lower halves of the turret together.

Sorry you missed it Zaaphod: a T72 would have been a nice addition. There'll be another along in a few months.
Mike, that colour came out quite well...but I'd put some black in the gaps between the two disks of each road wheel.
eMan, welcome on board. You still have about 6 weeks to go, I just haven't got around to extending the date yet to Oct 14th.

I'll certainly try. I already glued the wheels on to the suspension arms.

Well seeing as I have begun to start slacking on the kit... Might as well post a small update:
I have almost completed the turret. Probably about half way there? I need to know what to paint the electronics glass, though. The clear part that goes into the doghouse, I believe it is called..
The tracks are halfway finished. I just need to finish painting the other track and then a major block I've had will have been taken care of.
Here is the cupola and the other hatch on top of the turret:
Now for all of the "correcting painting" that I needed to do, like where I missed with the spray or had to shave off when taking parts off sprue, I had to mix my own version of Modern Desert Sand... It's pretty close too. I was able to save some and mix more to put in a Testors 1/4 oz. jar for future use.

I’m finally back to working on my M998 after taking a break to work on other projects. Everything is built up and I have begun the painting process. I’ve got the base painting done and some basic weathering using filters and pin washes. I still need to weather the back armor plate and ac unit.

After a short... Hiatus of sorts, I have an overdue update:
I'm finally get closer to the day that I may see this model kit finished. Now it may look like I didn't actually do much but believe me, I did quite a bit.
The M2HB isn't actually glued down yet. I just have it fit in for now. I don't want to break it.
Almost finished with one track; one quarter to go. Half way down on the other track.
Turret so far. Little bit more to go.
Almost finished the bustle rack subassembly. Sorry for lousy photo quality. And for the two sides, I used a rather... interesting tool to get that 90 degree angle for the end piece:

Some nice builds going on there guys, love the chally and abrams
Well I'm about 90% done with my M998. I still have a few more little thing to finish up on the model and then I will focus on the gear and possibly a figure to go next to the hmmwv.

I'm not quite finished yet. I still have a few (a lot) more things to do. Which included ordering three replacement parts, two of which have already been asked about in a ticket I sent yesterday.

cheers John - most appreciated
Jose - top work !!
Christopher -- awesome super detailing !! what did you use for that strap - im thinking tape?
Lap Man - chally - again super work !!
so as usual down to the wire !!! Im not sure if i get this finished by next week -- but im about 90%
I did put on the tracks before any "real" weathering takes place. They are painted in brown colour and the rubber pads hand painted v dark grey/ black
note the shiny appearance overall ...
Im just going to use the usual suspects for initial weathering
I am using more buffs, creams light colours -- and this is serves 3 things -
1) differing tones to the individual colours
2) both fading and initial dust effects but very subtle.
3) that shine is gone !
I also used olive green and a touch of burnt umber -- these just in shadow areas and again subtle.
best

Eman your chally looks really great, another kit to add to the wish list.
Mark you M1 looks spot on from the ones I remember that I’ve been around, can’t wait to see the rest finished. Too answer your question about the tow strap, I used blue masking painter’s tape doubled over on it’s self.
Well I can finally call my Polish M998 finished. I’m planning to add it to a small base with a figure for scale.
