hi,
I'll post here (at last I'll try) a work on wich I'm doing some practice of different techniques...
the recent miniart's kit is outstanding, and really demanding, one of the most complete kits I've ever built.
9057
I decided to divert from the instructions here and there, and to improve few details...
9067
9116
9122
9409
9415
and to add on a plusmodels resin quadriple maxim, a little, beautiful nightmare...
9489
the idea was to have a winter camo not totally washed away,
9857
and almost covered by mud.
9648
all because I wanted to recreate an environment full of mud and slush and ice snow, and... well, you know.
0055
something like that. this is a test bed for mud and snow.
0169
and here the base. mud.
0178
and water.
0214
I worked out some really basic figures to give a little life to the dio, an began to work on the snow...
0312
0314
0315
0350
now I'm out for work, but I hope to get back home to continue on the winter side of the base...
hope you appreciate,
greetings, p.

I'd say that oooks pretty stunning. Love that Gaz. The painting and weathering looks awesome and very realistic. Also the diorama and figures are really good. Promises to be a masterpiece.

Very well done.
I like your building too, nice colors on the wood!
Your test for water and snow looks god, you really could use it for a vignette.
Do we have an italian day on the board?
Welcone to you also

If you want to have it correct:
The solder's coat of the red army was gray, not khaki.

Yes, the red army coat was of a sort of brownish - gray color. A good basis is Vallejo US field drab, with some gray and/or a drop of blue.

hi all, thank you very much!
in particular, to ejasonk and durruti (ehi, man! the world it's not so big!)... my references show a sort of dark brownish kahki, but I started a new research, I'm still on time to correct the coats, and the thing don't disturb me, instead can be interesting to change a little the uniform's well, uniformity!
do you think that a greysh wash can achieve the right result? or it's better to scrap away all the colour and restart from zero?
thanks again, read you soon, p.

I never use washes on figures, however I think you can simply add a layer of color on the coat.

Acutally this is sort of myth.
The coat was steel gray this is the right color: http://voenspec.ru/products_thumb/F1578.jpg
In most movies or reenactment photos the color is grey-brown. But this coats are after WW2 finished. I have one of them. The material and color is different to the original WW2 coat. There was an military order for the right look of the coat before WW2 and it says it should be grey. In most movies the color is wrong. But otherway there are also rumors that a few later finished were brown.
However. I've bought one of Miniart's GAZ-MM 43 today

Sort of a mith ? I don't think so...
Steel grey was just one of a long series of shadows...
unless all of these are wrong:

mmmmh... it seems that I must do something about these coats... nice references, guys, thank you!
meanwhile, I started the winter session, just the first layer, it will keep several steps, I think....
0358
PS ejasonk, right shopping, you'll love it.
however, there are some hints that's better know before starting the assemble... here the complete wip about my build up:

and obviously, I am here for any question.

thanks, bill!
really, I love this kit. when I discovered the following picture, I begun to mumble about another one...
but now, since I cannot sleep if something rattles in my brain, I brushed some grey on the coats:
0371
better? I can still (and will) work on them, for sure, now they are pretty different from the others...
0374
see you, p.

Dear Paolo, your dio looked great and still looks great, even by changing the colours. If you look in the book , ISBN 978-2-35250-100-8, by Philippe Rio, you will see that uniform did not have one single colour. Being produced in many factories, using various batches of colour and fabrics, but also due to use and weather influences, the colours, even within the same unit, had big varieties. The book uses photos, so the give the real appereance. It is remarkable to see that eg. pants varied from some sort of grey to khaki (pag 140 and 141). Looking forward to see more from your hands. Thanks for showing it.

yes, paul...
in fact, I have tried to differentiate tones uniforms, creating different shades of khaki ... then with age I have made all very similar, unfortunately!
I think I will try to differentiate at least a little the uniforms of the two on the truck, at the cost of redo them again...
little progress today: icicles from the roof, slushy snow on the road, and white snow on the plants.

0447
0446
now it is almost, but not if the postman comes, I can not continue with the electric pole!

Nice dio Paolo. Love the mud and snow effects. They look great.
I find it hard to believe that every coat in the WW2 Russian army had one single colour only .... and remained that colour with wear and weathering? There must be some variance?
