Hi Guys!
I've built a kv-1 Ehkranami and wanted to put it on a base...ended up getting a old miniart box and some styrene.
Since it is my first real attempt at this I'll need some help!

What I have done is simply assemble the pieces together, but i'm hitting a wall here since I can't find good intel on the sidewalk (what they should look like).

I got a sweet small video proving that vk-1's where there but I got no shot of the sidewalks that seems to be completly covered in rubbles.

http://www.britishpathe.com/video/the-fall-of-tarnopol

Here is where I am at:

Now should I find a correct pattern and carve it on the sidewalk or should I just cover the whole thing in rubbles

Thanks for commenting.
Phil.

Hey Phil,

I very much lookin' forward to your dio and learning some valuable tricks aswell. I think it would look awesome with some minor rubble, dust and various bits. Some creative highlights and shadows on the sidewalk and street would probably help....of course im only guessing as ive never done one myself. Keep it comin brotha!

How about this? Ive cut some styrofoam to create the base for a great amount of rubbles, afterward i'll blend it in with dirt also adding wood length and brick...all sort of debris.

Have a look.

what do you all think?

Phil I like what you are doing as it should finish you model a treat. On the subject of the rubble it looks a little odd being piled up where the building is not damaged.

I've picked that up watching old video from the liberation of poland, it is like they where piling rubbles where they could to clear out streets and doors but still there where rubbles ecerywhere, remember this is the base for the places where rubbles will be higher..but the scene will be liitrally covered...I think.
But it is not definitive yet, thanks Darren. Dou you think it make more sens now that I've explained myself? Seriously, I wan't to know if i'm heading the wrong way with this.

Mehhhhh tought about Darren comments, regazed at pics and documentary...He is probably right. So I did this: lessen the rubbles where there was limited damange to the building and started to build the actual rubbles.

Is that better?

Yes Phil that does make more sense know you have explained however you will not be able to explain that to a viewer unless you are about. That said I do now understand and I think it looks better with the rubble thinned out.

You could always bend it and show the globe broken to help portray the destruction that occured in Poland during WW2.

Phil I like it as it helps explain the rubble and tells its own story.

Coming out pretty good!
The only thing is - those tanks would never make it to Ukraine. Maybe it would make a sense to change the location? They were build in Leningrad, and they were used around the Leningrad.

Phil,

I like you idea very much & agree that the lower level of rubble & what you have now done looks much better than your first pile IMHO lol.

I have also seen photos were they seem to "clear" the roads by dumping everything onto the sidewalk.

I have seen photos of Valentines in Poland in 1945, But I am not Big on what the Russkies did or didn't have in areas.

Cheers Mike

Very nice work Philippe. Glad you down-sized your rubble base, thought it looked more like massive snow drifts than piles of ruined building. Looking forward to seeing more.

Alex, Darren, Christopher:
Thanks for the good words and advice people!
Nice to have a e-mail notice that works, I finally get some feedback. I tought I'd saw a kv in tarnopol but it was a type of SU tank buster.(in the link I've posted earlyer at 24 sec)
In that case would estonia (Narva) be more accurate for a setting?
Because i'm pretty sure the building could fit there too.

Thank you.

Well, if we continue counting rivets Narva wouldn't work too. It was occupied by Germans on August 17 and production of these KV started about the same time.

How about Uritsk (former Ligovo)?
It was right on the front line, very close to Leningrad (later it actually became a part of the city of Leningrad). And architecture like that could be there just as well.
On the bottom of this page are photos of KV tanks around Uritsk: http://krasnoselmuseum.narod.ru/vov.htm

Thnaks alex. Ligovo sound plausible it is a tad far east for the architecture but it does still fits.I'll do some research as for the colours used for the building at this time in this region.
How about the corner lamp like this?...I'm not sure but the verticality is interesting.

Thanks for watching.

Yo Philippe,

A very nice start here! The layout looks fine to me.

Nice trick using evergreen for the sideways...

Keep up!

I like the foam build up for your debris, I've used it and stuck my timbers and wood debris into like a pin cushion before adding rubble and glue. Your pile size should reflect amount of damage to the building overall as a guideline. Nice Job on your KV, I am beginning to like them more and more.
