Yup - a couple of days ago.

It's very nice - typical Tamiya clean sharp moldings, and way more accurate than their previous M1A1 and A2 kits. Detail isn't up to the level of the Dragon kit - but then again it'll probably only take a third of the time to build.

Still waiting for mine.

It was a toss-up between the Dragon SEP kit with the Legend TUSK II upgrade set but after seeing a review of the Dragon kit and all the parts I went the path of least resistance (though not cost actually) and ordered the Tamiya kit.

Sorry, but I want FUN when I build models the words Dragon and fun together is an oxymoron.

I cant wait to get my hands on a couple of these. I have the Dragon M1A2 with the Legands TUSK II set and that was a tough build. The armored windows around the TC and Loaders hatches are kicking my butt. I want to get two of the Tamiya kits and use the parts from one of those to finish the Dragon kit. The Legends parts are nice but slightly warped and nothing will lay flat on them

I got mine about a week ago.Was looking forward to easy build with Tamiya and for the most part it has been. But I've had some problems. On one side the skirt was hard get fit right and the support pins were very hard to align, ended up not using any of the lower supports. On the turret I found that the electric cable protection part at the lower back of the turret was preventing it to turn and had to trim it down to clear the lower hull. The canon doen't seem to sit right, flush on one side and slightly raised on the other. It may be correct but I can't find good photos. Also the operating rod and shield cover make the fact of an elevating or lowering the gun redundent. The bussel racks have been a breeze so far and tonight I will attach them.So far nothing major, instructions can be a little unclear.I'll look forward to see how you guys are doing.

Hi all I received my kit a few days ago it will build into a nice kit The Tusk parts are rely good though I have taken a different direction Ive already began modifying the side skirts for the The Dragon Kit with only some minor surgery they will fit the belly armor fits well the other parts such as crew shields shouldnt be a problem The only gripe I have is they have made it hard to build it as a plain SEP as the ERA parts are moulded onto the skirts so it will make it hard to do other than that it is a good kit and presents excellent value for money cheers Ben.

Something I noticed examining the parts is Tamiya have left the door open for an earlier M1A2 SEP with the Under-armour APU. Not only is the compartment cover a seperate part, but also there are unused locating marks inside the hull to drill holes where port would be on the hull side.

It being Tamiya, maybe we'll see that one in 2023...

imo the dragon kit is better from far, tamiya one has too much shortcoming,ie no antislip coating, wrong gunner cuppola, too much rubber on road wheels, wrong smoke dischargers for a tusk 2,lot of details missig too on tusk 2 armor
i ll transplant tusk 2 of tamiya on the dragon kit
the only good thing is the nice 2 figures included

I agree with your statement that the Dragon M1A2 SEP is better, but not "that" far
None of the shortcomings of the Tamiya kit is a fatal one, and I do not feel that Dragon's antislip is that good either.
The Tusk armor blocks need some additional detail, but you can say the same about Perfect Model ones, so...
Anyway, for me this a very good kit for a reasonable price, and seems to be as easy to build and super detail as is usual with Tamiya kits.

If you have a tamiya M1A2 kit those plain skirts will fit

Other than being moved up slightly, whats different about the smoke dischargers? I can't see the difference

To make this somewhat more clear... Same discharges, just mounted onto a bracket that raises them a bit higher so they clear the turret armor. You have to really look hard to see it

Not sure I'd call it wrong - simplified maybe. Tamiya do provide alternate smoke discharger mounts for Tusk 1 and 2.

I don't know if you're going by the publicity photos, but not all the new parts are shown on those prototype models. Main gun, smoke dischargers, rear hull and headlight guards all differ from what's shown in the models shown in the ads/publicity.

Almost at the end of my build and have a question.
In step # 29,part M5 which I belive is a search light, shows it to have an angled mounting bracket on it.Mine has nothing like it.It doesn't show any signs of anything being broken off. Also doesn't show it's a separate part.I don't think I've missed anything in the instuctions. Before I find something to replace it,could someone take a look at their parts and see if I'm the only one confused here.

Thanks,

Tom

I received the kit today and i can assure you that there is an angled mounted bracket on the clear part M5, as shown in the instructions, thin and small but unfortunately actual!
