Here’s another project I’m working on for the upcoming AMPS show in Atlanta this April. This is made from evergreen plastic and is in 1/35th. It’s a SEE (Small Emplacement Excavator). For reference I did an extensive internet search for pics and data. Before I began I needed to know the tires size. I found that they were 12.5 R20 LPR on 11.00-20 rims. Looking over my modern kits I found the M1078 had the same size tires, but the pattern was of somewhat, something I could live with.
This is a small vehicle with a ground clearance of 17in. and a wheel base of 96in.
The SEE is based on the Unimog FLU-419. It saw service in Gulf War, Bosnia, Operation Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Jason West jwest21 helped out by giving me a set of tires he had left over from his M1078, Thanks Jason!
More to come.
Happy Modeling,
Joe

Hi Joe,
Sorry for the frustration. As I tell students at my daughter's school, where I teach a web class, little stuff matters when doing HTML and in this case you had some spaces and line-breaks in your BB image code.
I fixed them though.
And NICE job on this! Looks great.
Cheers,
Jim

Joe, wow, awesome!
Have you ever thought of making another to sell to a resin kit company to market? Sorry, but this is what I normally think of when I see awesome scratchbuilds.

Thanks Jim and yes is it frustrating when you just can’t pick up this computer stuff. I like to think I’m somewhat smart but just not at this.
Thanks for looking out!

Damn!! Every time I see one of your projects I can't get over how clean your work is. You should be giving classes on this!
And why aren't your projects sold as masters so we can see them later as kits?

Were the cab and main frame scratched from Evergreen too? Even if they aren't this is beyond impressive and I'll be watching for sure.

Thanks Gino I love building these engineer vehicles.
Thanks Hisham, the clean build…well it’s hard to explain but simple enough I just sand the area glued, sand cut areas and use a metal ruler for straight cuts. I’d like to cast the stuff I make but my problem is how to break down which parts to cast. Also I can’t get every part made and I’m off with measurements here and there as it’s hard to get them.
Thanks Jason.
Happy modeling,
Joe

Joe, I second what everyone else has said about molding your work and passing to a company to mass produce. This SEE, and your M983 and Patriot launcher. great work.

Thanks Nige…always fun to scratchbuild, I hardly build from a box kit these days.
Thanks Peter… my problem is how to break down which parts to cast. Also I can’t get every part made and I’m sure I’m off with my measurements here and there as it’s hard to get them but not enough to sell. The rivet gods would have a field day with it…your cab is 2mm too tall, 1.5mm less wide and so on.
Thanks Brian…” Speaking of which, what’s the fire truck side looking like.” I’m sorry Brian but I don’t follow.
Happy Modeling,
Joe

Thanks Tom.
Thanks nick, as I said the tires are slightly off.
“Were the cab and main frame scratched from Evergreen too?” yes Chris the whole thing is scratched using evergreen. I will have some plastic pieces added in here and there. The steering wheel for instance.
Thanks Steph.
Thanks KoSprueOne.
