Thank you Jose my friend
Have you yet decided on which variant to build?
I hope it is a 1/35 scale, as you have been showing some real good builds in this scale recently

Jon – Great work; for sure I will follow a lot of your steps in my attempt to build an ok 69II. My Trumpeter kit also has the horrible “spider web” wheels and ugly sprockets
Paul – Looks very nice, great resin set, amazing 50 cal.
I just started to hack away the "web" of the wheels, kit parts also have a LOT of flash...

Hi James
You could safe some time and frustration and buy replacement wheels from miniarm or tankworkshop or perhaps find one of trumpeters newer T-62 kits for a cheap price, since they are on sale from time to time.

Hi James and welcome in here,
those early Trumpeter kits can be quite educating . You certainly learn 2 things for sure:
1.Never buy one again
2.How to start scratch building
Stick at her dude, you can make some cool builds from those monsters with a little TLC
Here's todays update, it was the commanders 30 cal turn today:

Hello Sean, thanks mate. And Welcome to Armorama.
Is this going to be some kind of regimental re-union?
I'll be in the UK in June I want to go to Duxford (15th June).
Are taking part in my little group build?
If you do make sure you check the rules and regs and sign up too, you can do all of that here:

So here I am after christmas and the stress of changing uni course.
I wanted to scratch a t-44-85 using an old trumpeter t-54b hull as the base. Now my dilema is that the model in question is suddenly sold out or all out not available from my usual online shops.
Any suggestions for another base hull to work on for the project? I'd prefer something cheap as I will probably be butchering it/not using alot of the parts.
If nothing can be found i'll have to put the projec ton the backburner and find somethign else ot build for this campaign.
Cheers
Tristan
Edit: nvm, I've found an old T-55 mod 1958 which will do for me.

Hey guys,
Just got back onto the site after a few years and had decided to break out my Tamiya T-55 after being a shelf queen for too long, what are the chances but there was a T-55 campaign on too! So I've signed up as I need the drive to finally get a build completed which was the motivation for posting, so hopefully the campaign will help on that front too.
I'll keep posting my progress on My Build Log but will post the odd link here too.
I'm putting together the Tamiya kit:
with a bit of aftermarket:
to build a captured Syrian rebel vehicle, allows me to do a very beat-up old girl!
Glad to be involved, look forward to seeing your progress and seeing what you think of mine.
James

Hi Ryan and thanks. I still have a long way to go.....
Hi James,
welcome back to the hobby and welcome to my campaign.
I am looking forward to seeing your build. Are you going to do the burnt out version, or just use parts of that kit to get a real "beaten up old girl" ?
Paul

Well if there is one thing Germany does effitiently it's the Post. Ordered Monday after noon, look what turned up Wednesday Lunchtime.
I've been really excited for this project, so like a child on christmas I ripped open the packeging and did a test fit.
The turret fits in the ring like a charm, very promising.
Maybe a little bit high but not too much and a bit far back. But I feel this is somethign which I can correct without an insane amount of work.
Cheers

Hi James and welcome to you to.
Where did you order those kits, was it SGK as that is in your county isn't it?
I take you're going for the T44 yes?
Now this is going to be interesting, I'll keep my fingers crossed that everything goes to plan

My name isn't James but oh well
I ordered these from www.dersockelshop.de, they always deliver very fast which I love because I get impatient with deliveries hehe
Yes I'm going for the T-44, thankfully there is no shortage of sketches and photos online.
Cheers

Cheers mate,
No I won't be using all of the burn-out kit, that will mostly be used for a future build. I'm using select parts to show a very 'beaten up old'gril' as you say.
The theory is it's an old T-55A that has been a gate guard or in storage at a Syrian army barracks and gradually was plundered for parts etc. but the resourceful Rebels have been able to get her back into action.
Progress is now well underway (see blog for details):

This is indeed a strangely addictive hobby! I have just spent FIVE precious hours of my free time yesterday working on ONE piece of plasticard. Owing to a major skill shortage on my behalf, the other evening I ended up having to scratch build the front engine deck of my project for this GB (a Type 69-II for those of you who haven't been concentrating). Here’s the (nowhere near complete) product of my labours:
But hey Tristan! Great news that there’s going to be a T44 in the campaign. I built Accurate Armour’s resin version about this time last year. In truth I don’t think that I did it the justice it deserved, though to be honest, I find resin rather horrid to work with and my weathering talents let it down somewhat. Currently it’s tucked into the back of my ‘cupboard of shame’ awaiting an improvement in my skill levels!
However, I’ll watch your progress with interest, especially as I have both of the kits that you are basing your build on in my stash... Anyway, good luck! BTW re-sizing the Trumpy’s hull to be more dimensionally correct is dead easy, please drop me an email if you get stuck and I can send you a (kind of) build log.
Before I go here’s a few pics of my build so far:
Fuel lines and external tank retaining clamps fitted.
My attempt at weld-bead and a pair of towing shackle retaining clips.
And finally with its turret.
I am still awaiting a Mig resin gun mantlet sans sand cover to arrive for the States, then I will be asking advice on how I might recreate this:
Until then happy tanking everyone

Some very interesting projects here, and some amazing progress already.
I have finally chosen my subject, and will begin over the weekend.
Start pic:
Are pics without newspaper/phone displaying the date fine so long as they have a time-stamp?
Haven't decided if I will use the Friul tracks yet, will see how the build itself goes first.
John - Thanks for the link to the gallery! Very nice find!
I'm part way through the T-62 1972 you are doing now, will finish that for the Unfinished Campaign. Very interesting to see you do the BDD model too, that is on my wish list.
Alex - Another BDD! Will be great to see this being worked on twice before I get my hands on it.
You mentioned the slat armour, there's a PE kit from Voyager which replicates it, so no need to scratch it....Though being a PE noob myself I must say that it doesn't look at all easy.
http://www.voyagermodel.com/productdetails.asp?itemid=PEA170
I picked up a set for when I get around to making my T-62BDD. It looks daunting but I'm sure the results will be worth the effort.
Anyway enough rambling from me, enjoy the weekend folks, and keep up the good work.

Alex K,
The funny thing is that I was initially going to buy and build the T-62 with ERA. I pulled up the BDD one by accident. I liked the look and ended up going with it instead. One of those chance, split second decisions. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see the ERA version build up.

Some nice work coming together on here!
Particularly keen to see how Tristan's T-44 kitbash goes together and also very impressed with Jon's T-69 II work using the Trumpeter kit as the base. I have Trumpeters version in 'Iraqi army service' and so it's good to see what can be done to the kit with a bit of TLC.
Paul's Tiran 6 is coming along beautifully, should be very impressive once complete.
My old girl's making some progress:
Keen to get some input on certain parts of the build if people are interested:
