Too bad you didn't ask a month ago when I visited the Ft. Benning collection. I could have gotten whatever shots you wanted.
Here's the best i could find.

This is an M40, but it's pretty similar...

If you're still looking - I can get them tomorrow or Wednesday. There's an M4A2 76 HVSS at the local Base.

Letting a kitten decide on casting number placement is a steep slope covered with greased banana peels, but keeping in mind at all times the truism that dogs have masters, while cats have staff, I have negotiated with my feline overland so that he will mainly concern himself with small parts dispersal and gravity checks of sub-assemblies Fortunately I do get some building done during his normal 14 hours of naptime . . . provided I do actual work on a kit instead of spending hours and hours on the interwebs

This has got to be THE wackiest buildblog I ever read!
But I do enjoy it and seeing some good building going on, too.

I was exposed to a serious Sherman infection about two years ago (M-4, M-51, D-Day with wading trunks & a Firefly) but now I think I feel a dangerous relapse coming on.

Looking at the freshly reworked back plate, I am suitably impressed, and look forward to more work along these lines. Just like Mike "I was exposed to a serious Sherman infection about two years ago . . . but now I think I feel a dangerous relapse coming on."
I checked the stash add found 4 Tamiya kits (M4A3E2 Jumbo, M4 Early Production, M4A3 105mm Howitzer, and the M43A 75mm; an Italeri US Marines M4? with the wooden armor, an paritally started Dragon Firefly Vc (not first one the mutliple error, the middle one with slightly fewer errors and nod the later release with allegedly fewer errors... and somewhere in Plastic Scrap Heap of No Return, bits and bobs of the Dragon M4A4 in Chinese service.
As I looked the collection over, including the only Shermans to be considered finished enough to escape the Paint Shop and make to a display shelf (the Italeri M$ with the stepped barrel, which I carefully sanded down so now it looks like I fitted the 50mm cannon barrel from a Panzer III, and the Dragon M4A2 PTO tank,I debated about which which should go into the Queue of Impending Doom, I decided to try finishing the Firefly, as it was the farrest along and could be consigned to the Paint shop of Eternal Diddling and Dawdling sooner than any of the others.
Will I attempt to recreate to magic performed by M. Kharov? Alas no, as my kits do not display the Multiple Personality Disorder that makes them speak so eloquently to their master, but wait in a catatonic state, dreaming fearful dreams of gluing mishaps, overenthusiastic sanding boo-boos, and mishandled Dremel tools . . .

Simply amazing. Your scratch building is just unbelievably neat and clean. I cant even get two pieces of sheet styrene to look somewhat identical . I hope this isn't your last Sherman, I think you're on the road to becoming a certified Shermaniac

Still the most interesting read here....
Re the lack of symmetry: It's the same deal as any other part on a Sherman, if one casting could be made to work on either side (think VVSS bogie units) and save on replacement parts count, thereby simplifying supply, it was done. If you get close and really look, the Sherman was a true engineering marvel regarding ease of assembly and repair, largely due to engineering "tricks" like the idler mount assembly bolting to either side of the hull.
