Watching. It's probably a good thing you don't know much about Shermans. That will making FINISHING a lot easier.

Ha! Well put Jesse and too true! I'll add a warning to stay away from the huge range of aftermarket parts to further ensure completion of this kit!

Have fun with this one Matt. Putting the instructions in the bin probably wasn't a bad idea. The Sherman is a simple enough tank you can likely figure out where everything goes without them.

Cheers!

True Don, the biggest issue would probably be getting the bogies on the correct sides if you aren't paying attention. Then again a lot of kits have different alignment points/holes to fix that...

I'm with Terry. Also, somewhat optimistically, I just took the same kit out of the stash, with the goal of doing an M50 on the M4A3 hull.
Anybody see my windmill?

FYI, Tasca sells their sprues individually. That could be useful for you.

I'm kinda thinking the same thing, i.e. put a different turret on it, I was thinking maybe a Pershing turret, I know they tested the idea during the war, and they did fit some Pershing turrets to Sherman hulls (both turrets use the same size turret ring), but I am not sure if this hull is in effect locked to the 105mm turret.

I don't think it is, I think the only changes were in effect to the turret itself, to mount the 105mm, and they moved the gun travel lock on the front plate, but not sure.

If I remember correctly, the single prototype with the Pershing turret was a M4, not a M4A3.

EDIT:

Yup, M4.

You're a genius Jesse, and nothing in the rules state that I can't read Tasca or AFV Club instructions !!

AFV Club do HVSS suspension I think, I'm saved from the Dragon madness.

So does Tasca...

The Pershing turret idea is out the window then.

Do you think anyone will notice if I just buy a Tasca Sherman and spray it Dragon grey ?, lol

After having built both Dragon and Tasca Shermans, I would congratulate you on that decision.

Hey Matt!!

Kool little build you got started here. I'll be following along here or on you awesome blog, which is just tops!

Here are some thoughts I had;

A) Since you really don't have an end state in mind roll on with this and have a blast! Build it just the way you want and don't let history weight you down.

B) It Looks like you are hitting all the high marks on the dragon Shermans, Nice and straight lower hulls, awesome fitting front differential area and other fine details. If any thing you'll get prefect them basic building skillz correcting everything

C) And lastly, don't give up on the Pershing turret with HVSS so fast. Consider that the photo is actually a proof concept mock-up and not a production prototype. If you run the logic a little further out the added weight of the turret would need a better suspension and the HVSS would fill that roll..somewhat. And I would bet that the production model would be powered a Ford GAA engine (M4A3 Engine) as it had better reliability and more horses under the hood.

So go for it and Pimp that Sherman with a 90mm and tell them Tigers to Bite-it

Bottomline.....HAVE A BALL!!!!

Eric, the E2's were still VVSS. The Pershing turret would be pushing it but could probably handle the weight. If you wanted to go a bit farther and maybe mount the 'Super Pershing' turret there'd definitely be an issue.

I do think the M4 (90mm) test bed vehicle would be a cool build though. Rather bland markings though unless you wanted to do a '46 themed Sherman.

That's just my opinion though.

"Sulks". I love it. You sir, have a flair.
I'm using this same kit as a basis for an M50 bash, so aside from being hugely entertaining, it's very helpful. Thanks.
