Hiya everyone
Here are a few pics of my 60% fininshed Tamiya Humvee. Its taken me a while to get to this stage ....... lost intrest in it for a while, but now i think its coming on quite nicely.
I have the new Tamiya US modern equipment set to compliment it .

I used Tamiya buff for the base coat , with a light spray of sand.

All comments welcome

Glad you got back to it. I like the chipping around the doors, well done.
One thing I can't tell really well is that the front grate looks a bit to unchipped. Can't really telll a whole lot on these photos.

All comments welcome

I hope you really mean it, as I have some critical comments. You made two small mistakes. First is the use of the fiberglass grille on the engine hood. On hard-top Humvee, like the M1025, you will always see the armored metal grille - part D8 in Tamiya kit. Part you used is in reality installed only to soft-top (e.g. M998) Humvees. Second mistake is the way you installed small wheel hubs - you installed both rear hubs on the left side of your Humvee and both front ones on the right side. Also note that reflectors on the rear of the vehicle are always red, not orange - also those on sides of the body.

Appart from these little inaccuracies, your model looks very good. Clean build and very nice and realistic paint job.

Keep up a good work!

Pawel

SWEATY DOGZ,
Looks greta.!!! GOOD PRACTICE of the PATD pricipal. I see you kept the interior green w/ sand exterior, GOOD EYE. The chipping and wear affect is quite good.
It may be the picture quality, but it seems a little on the dark shade.
KEEP UP THE GOOD PROGRESS. THINKS THAT MAKE YA GO HHHMMMM

Outstanding paint job! Youve really mastered the worn away desert camo scheme, I'm jealous. How'd you do it?

Another thing is the antenna base is usually either masked with masking tape or removed when the vehicle is painted. For some reason, all those grounding connections dislike heavy coats of CARC paint Someone here has some antenna photos in the gallery to see the colors it should be.

I just picked up this kit in a trade, looks like a nice build.

Like your paint job. Especially the chipping of the paint on the body, very realistic. However, didn't see any on the turret ring, Such as the hatch etc. Those are areas that would have a lot of chipping of paint due to the continual use and abuse.

Looking good so far sweaty! Vodnik's got some good points as well I agree with the other's evaul of you chipping/weathering. It is very difficult to show proper 'wear'......tthat's why I usually paint my kits as if they were painted in real life. This is the only way I have been able to accomplish it. How, pray tell , did you do it?

Luckily the wheels aren’t clued on yet, only put them on for the photo; however the grille is another matter…. But I should be able to prise it off.
I plan to add lots more paint chips on the vehicle especially around the turret area. I also plan on many scratches over the vehicle, but I’m not to sure how to achieve this

I will post some more pics soon, after I’ve hopefully rectified the faults.

HMMWV looks good. I wouldn't worry too much about the grill. I have seen many hard tops with fiberglass grills and softtops with metal grills. It depends on if the hood or grill was ever replaced and which grill was ordered for it. Either grill will fit. Leaving it as is is not incorrect. Parts get switched and changed often on actual military vehicles and they end up as a version all their own most of the time. Factory prescribed versions are not always what is in the field.

I just browsed through my entire collection of Humvee photos (500+ of them) and found ONE photo of M1025 with fiberglass grille. So I can confirm that it is possible, but very rare situation. Opposite situation is much more often - soft-tops with metal grille are not uncommon (I've read that troops replace fg grille with metal one if they can get it, as fg often breaks under the heavier load that is often carried on the hood).

One interesting thing is that newest heavy-armor hard-top Humvees often have fiberglass, not metal grille factory installed.

Don't sweat the grill. Change it if you would like, but I have seen several armored Hummers here in the Baghdad area with the wrong grill. The mechanics here are putting on whatever they can get. Great looking model by the way. I hope to see you complete it.

Hiya all
After all the welcomed comments & feedback, I had some time this weekend to finish my humvee.
Below is the finished item.
Let me know what you think.

For a bit off interest i added the map and a water bottle, the canvas is just normal tissue paper.

I hope you like the finished kit.

Turned out very very nice, Bulldog. The paint and chipping makes it look well worn not not abused. Bravo

Cheers sgtreef
Apart from having no stowage in the kit, and the lack off an engine thei kit is pretty good.
I also think the turret ring needs a bit of work, (a bit plain)

I plan on doing another with some PE later on.
Rick
