Sounds good, Mike. I think you made a good choice on the barrel.

Looking forward to see more

Heh, the only picture that turned out half decent.

The barrel end (breech) sits inside the "ball."

Hey Nicolas,

Thanks for checking up on me.

A lot of other things going on at the moment.

Still trying to work something with the barrels. My POC for these is really busy, so I'm at their whim.

I can't do anymore to the turret until I have those (for fear of breaking a lot of small details. The lower hull? Well...yes I could...once I clear the bench of two (much, much) smaller campaign builds and my M108.

I have not quit this, just taken a break from it.

Hi Mike,

Glad to hear that you haven't called quits on this MONSTER of a project. I will drop in from time to time to see what's happening.

Good luck with the other projects - keep us posted on those as well.

Kobus

Hey Mike,
thanks alot for answering. Your build sure stands out of the crowd, and it would be a shame if it never saw completion... Good luck with everyhting and hope to see some updates soonish

A bit of an update on the barrels. My local POC is too tied up with other things (these will be money-makers for this person I believe) to continue on the barrels. Bummed, but it is what it is.

I reached back out to a gentleman that did CAD work for the barrels that was submitted to Shapeways. It was rather costly (to me) so I was hoping the local POC could help. Anyhow, I'm sort of able to go through Shapeways now. I contacted this gentleman about "re-igniting" the Shapeway's file... only to be told to hang tight...there may be some turned barrels in the very near future.

That's where I'm at. If the turned barrels come through? HolySheepShitBatman!! If not, Shapeways. I'm not "physically" stopped from building this...just mentally. The barrels will break that mental block. And, heck, PPP's radar?!? Oh yeah.

Hi Mike,
maybe this new book:
http://www.modellbau-koenig.de/Sprache/en/Englisch.htm
will give new ideas for the Ratte Project.

Hi Mike, thanks for the link to MBK, I will be ordering this book in the next few days. The people who put out this book, are also the one's that put out the Walter Spielberger books! This should be pretty interesting.

Dayum...been a long time!

The Ratte has been kicked in the backside and started up again!

I would like to thank Tom C (barkingdigger) for his scaling of the barrels and his friend Alan for doing the turning and creating the barrels. Truly these two have got the excitement back into this for me.

So, what's next?

I need to build the mounts for the barrels. These will be made out of wood (sturdier) with the face (covered in thin styrene). Once I've firmed up the angles and curves, the mounts will be mounted to the turret. From there I'll be doing all the ventilation ducts and the like, the rear door, railings, ladders, and the Radar und KDO40 Turm Heimdall from PPP.

Turret is on the bench!

Great to see the project coming into life again.

The barrels look underscale, but that might be because they are on a massive turret.

Looking forward to see more.

Brother,

I love the way this is shaping up! That turret and Barrel set looks fantastic. Dnn't be so hard on yourself for taking your time...God only knows we all have a regular life outside of the craft! And if you're like me, sometimes the concept you're working towards feels foreign and you just can't get the feeling to do anything, much less put chaos into order!

Keep up the great work!
