I simply dont understand this company. They have great kits indeed, but why on earth to release this? Silence for a year from tamiya when it comes to AFV models and than they make a kit of a vehicle which there are already many other companies on the market selling and in a solid quality. Same as with the Elefant.
Why dont they remake and re-release that old T-10m kit of theirs instead? Im sure the whole modelling community interested in cold war machinery would [auto-censored] bricks.

I'm with you Michal !
Not with the T10 but in general ... the have everything in their favor to continue the Leopard 2 variants. But NO .... just another kit that even the WW2 buffs already have from Dragon. Trumpeter is steam rolling out all post-war Soviet Tanks, Meng, Dragon and AFV Club doing the same for "western" Tanks ... and now the Swiss Pz68.
On one too few welcome occasions they throw something like the GAMA-Goat at you ... and then ? ... Retro re-issues.
I just can't imagine what Tamiya is really up to ... on my radar they a falling behind ... fast and dumb.
Cheers
Christopher

Hi all
I Think they need to pull their heads out from the dark space that it is and Come up with some more original Ideas,
I get the part with them appealing to a group of modelers out there who enjoy the Tamiya Experience I am on of them Too except the last Tamiya kit I built involved Robbing their TUSK parts and throwing them on a Dragon M1, The rest went in the Bin with no hesitation.
After Building some of the more recent Kits around From Trumpeter and Meng and seeing what is also coming out from pretty much all Manufacturers their is some realy new and some times obscure kits I Just get the Impression That Tamiya just aren't realy in the running
Any more the reason I say this is the absence of basic PE Like Turret bustle mesh missing in everything that should have it, no non slip and if it has any form of glass in the turret you have to make it from that clear sheeting provided in the kit Just not what I want to considering all of their new releases have retailed for around $85.00 no thanks.
Cheers Ben

Trust me Michael - you really don't want their old T10; it was nothing more than a motorised toy with a vague likeness to something Soviet; however, I take your point(and others') - a Nashorn is not particularly imaginative and I suspect will be very expensive akin to their Elefant.
A NEW tooled T10 - now that would be something - although I suspect this year we will see one from say, Trumpeter. Come on Tamiya, show some imagination!

I don't understand why a lot of you are against this release by Tamiya. Trumpeter, DML and Amusing Hobby all did kits of the Neubaufahrzeug and I didn't see a great outcry there.
There are literally dozens of plastic kit manufacturers out there producing hundreds of diverse kits. If you don't like Tamiya's offerings check out some of the other companies. I have the DML Nashorn and I will probably build it sometime in the future but I just ordered this kit from HLJ and will probably build it when I receive it.
Tamiya kits, IMHO, are the most well engineered kits available. It is a pleasure to build a Tamiya kit. I just built the Char B1 bis in a little over 6 hours. They are just fun to build. I'm sure they did market research and studies to find out what people were interested in building. I know when I heard about the Tamiya Elefant and the Nashorn I was excited to finally have a choice of kits that didn't involve a hundred hours to complete.
As I said...if you don't like Tamiya's offerings there are many more kits from other manufacturers available. Try them and stop bashing Tamiya.
By the way...I got this kit for about USD $38.00. Relatively speaking, not too expensive in today's market.

I guess it is because we are entitled as customers to give our honest opinion...
If you do the effort of searching in this very same forum, you'll find some topics criticizing -for instance- Dragon's Tiger I variations -some people might believe that ther will end being more Dragon variants than actual deployed vehicles-
or Trumpeter's tendence to "ruin" some otherwise excellent kits by falling in obvious and avoidable mistakes, etc.
The fact here is -I believe- that most of us also like Tamiya's buildability and engineering even knowing their lack of a modern approach to details such as antiskid or at least a tiny PE fret, so we hope the former "Big T" to release more interesting subjects. And of course, we all expect to get the most for our hard earned bucks.
I might say, using your own words, "if you don't like this kind of topics, just don't read them", but I think it looses the whole point of following this kind of forums, doesn't it?
My last Tamiya kit built was their recent Type 10 MBT, and it was an easy and pleasant built -appart from the ugly gun barrel-, why shouldn't we expect more original subjects like this instead of the same old WWII german vehicles?
All that said, we all know that Tamiya does not care at all about our wishes, their main market are still RC cars and stuff

At $87.50 retail, I'd be hard pressed to purchase.
Building Dragons' corrected Nashorn/Hummel does just fine for most of us, and for pennies on the dollars vs. the small mortgage for Tamiya kits, I'll stick with budget busting eBay bargains that the Dragon kits are today.
And when it comes to bargain hunting (having more than 300 1/35 kits on hand), waiting 3 or 4 years for the price(s) to bottom out before purchasing today's release makes sense for me. Besides, it gives the aftermarket guys time to catch up to a kit as well.

I'm stealing a line from another forum, but I assume they are releasing this because it will sell and every dollar that gets spent on a Dragon or AFV Club kit is a dollar that's not going to them. To be fair, I pretty much only build Dragon or Trumpeter because of their subjects, but building the Tamiya Type 10 recently reminded me that a Tamiya kit really is in a different league for buildability than either of those two. All things being equal, I'd get a Tamiya kit of a subject over the others if it was to be a fun build and not the occasional I-love-this-tank-and-will-spend-$100-on-aftermarket-to-make-it-a-masterpiece build. A Tamiya Nashorn will probably be a perfect weekend kit. You can't say that about the other versions.

If you read my post I said I got it from Hobbylink Japan for about $38.00. Add another $10.00 for shipping that's still only $48.00. That is about half of what Tamiya America retails it for. You don't have to pay the MSRP if you are willing to buy from HLJ or Lucky Model.

I guess what I wanted to convey, not very eloquently I may add, is that these threads start announcing new product releases and end up as (Put your least favorite manufacturer here) bashing.
In another thread I made my views known about my displeasure over Dragon's (I really like Dragon figure kits) recent figure releases but I kept it on topic.
I am a WWII armor builder and the more WWII German kits there are the better. I know for modern armor builders the market is not as good as it is for WWII builder. It is probably very frustrating. I get that.
Tamiya releases what they think will sell, not what we want them to produce. They worry about their domestic and RC markets first and the rest of us are a distant
third.
I understand that everyone is entitled, and encouraged, to express their opinion. That is what makes Armorama such a great website. I think I just get tired of the hate talk every time Tamiya releases a new kit.
By the way....I follow all of the news and reviews of WWII vehicles and figures on this site ...as I've been doing since 2002.

I've been intrigued with a Nash build for awhile...
The best of both worlds...a tank outside and a viewable inside!
and when I want to freakin build a "tank"
I get all of the options I can - so I can understand and fullfill MY understanding and the detail level associated with my understanding.......
((To be honest I've been squirreling away the pieces for:
M1128 w/ slat AND plow.... into $1,052.93 so far,
[the kit, the engine, the interior..(from TrM1129) the LiveResin, the Anti Reflective, the SKP, the Voyager,Griffon, and Eduard]
M1a2, DEF-ABV w/ ET-pe MBT and Verlinden; into about $700
M1070 and PE into $382.50...just starting..
And....my 1/12 GT40 Mk.II and primo upgrade - into over $870))
So... about the Nash-ie
I am gonna buy An... AFV , a CyberHobby, a Dragon AND a Tamiya Kit...
And detail with AFV, Eduard, Verlinden, CMK, Lion Roar AND Royal Model......gonna top $450
,,,AND That's What I Want....
the same price I paid for a great phone 2 years ago...that does nothing for me now.....is the price I'll pay; spread that over the hours I'll have fun, engaging my brain, fingers, and intelect for a month or two... ....way cheaper than a movie theater and snacks for each of those days.
....and Unlike the expenditure for my useless old phone..
...I can be Proud of my eccessive add-ons...because - I DID THAT!...I built that... I worked my brain to make that come together...that way.
And Yet.....I STILL stand in awe of some of the builders here on Armorama...!!
((I am just an old 'newb' ...I can build.... and semi-scratch add on ,,, but I have No Knowledge of painting...[borrowed an air brush last month - for the first time]..))
Thanks to the community for all the feedback and possitive vibrations!
BTW... the Meng Brad....oh I want...want ..want..!
- Suspension - and tracks , An Engine, An Interior, A Gun, and An Exterior....
what's my up-grade costs...handles? ...oh my!....

I've been using them for years and I am totally satisfied with their service.
They also have the Elefant for the same price!!!

Very nice! Can we expect some unboxing videos in the near future? Out of the three I'm actually most interested in seeing the motorcycle.

I think it will be a good kit. You have to expect simplicity though, with good detail.
It won't compare to a Dragon Nashorn though.
I build Tamiya kits when taking a break from Dragon complexity. I was looking at my Bronco Humber & Staghound kits...wow...so many small parts..those are going to be tough builds for me.
I just hope the Tamiya Nashorn price fits the kit...I wouldn't want to feel cheated.
I would buy the kit just for the figures!

Is the gun in two halves? If there's something to whine about Tamiya kits it's those split barrels, obviously they have know how to make them one piece but they still choose to go old way...

No it's a one piece barrel with a two-piece muzzle brake.
