Hi all.
Diorama I´m planning to build, contains builds of the Steel Wheels campaign. 3 vehicles will make a diorama with some figures.
Inspiration comes from a German website, with loads of photomaterial. Main subject is history of the Reichsbahn during W.W.II.
As mentioned, I started to build the vehicles already. Latest build I´ve been working on is the Coal Tender. Locomotive has to wait for the PE from Eduard and some Resin from LZ.
Tender is getting along well. Some nasty cleaning is done and the steel wheels are ready.
BR52 together with the improvised FLAK car stuck on a station, due to heavy bombing. Railtruck comes to help.
Location is somewhere in East-South Europe. Krim or Italy, don´t know yet.
This build will show my love for Railways, and gives me the opportunity to combine several interests.
WIP on the steel wheels and chassis.
Railtruck with crane. Conversionkits from PlusModell and Calibre35 with a Zvezda L4500A kit.
WIP on the wooden deck, crane from Calibre and some scratchwork.
Waiting for the set from PlusModell to give it the steel wheels.
BR52 will be a big build, with some nice things to scratch.
First finish the tender and the rest, part of the Steel Wheels Campaign.
More updates later this weekend, to show the progress on tracks, other vehicles and whatever comes up.
Regards,
Robert Jan

Thank you all for the nice words.
Some pics of the Coal Tender so far.
Paint and a first rusty look. This looks like a weathering, but will come later.
And for a little contrast.
1/35 scale Coal Tender undercarriage meets 1/87 scale NS6317 Tenderlocomotive. She is my pride and joy.

Hi.
Glad you all like it.
Step 1.
I´m giving the model a thin layer of primer. To give it texture I add all sorts of pigments straight to the fresh paint. Part of it will stay, rest will drop off.
Step 2.
For a rusty color I use Marron RAL 8019. Directly after the color is on. dump loads of pigment to the fresh paint.
In this case AK Darksteel and Trackrust. Wait for some 5 minutes and punch the pigments with some old brush.
Step 3. Bring on the color you need, in this case Anthracite RAL 6017, in thin layers.
Step 4. Use AK Trackwash to darken and lift the rust, it has texture now, untill it´s ok.
What happens is that, when you polish or brush afterwards, pigments do their job and simply show up.
Still haven´t sprayed a lacquer so...
This site a real goldmine for diorama builders. Enjoy!

Hi.
Did some research because I'm having my doubts about the way Trump wants me to build the BR52. As usual my build is on the way, when Ahá moments come up.
First issue in case of color is the Black and Red livery, which is not correct for Wartime BR52. My thoughts about that were ok.
Second issue. Numbers and Reichsadler. This is tricky. I got some info from another forum that made me believe no Adlers and numbers on both sides of the cabin. But when i look at other pictures they do show them.
Kit faillures from Trump, it's better not to discuss now.
When they show up during the build I show what is right.
Tender is on for today. Did have some great ideas this morning and it looks pretty cool. Photos later today.

Hi. To show you all my idea, a picture of the watertank with the steelplates made from 0.1mm. brass sheet. Gives the wobly effect you see on the real thing.
Now to get to the otherside of the tank.

Hi.
Some progress on the Coal Tender.
Paint is on and I can start on details when my PE from Eduard will arrive this week.
Some pictures.
I left on side of the tank open. Lid will come later. Haven't decided yet if there will be a watercolumn at my planned dio, so...
Undercarriage of the tender. This was one of the options the Germans had in their design for the BR52.
BR52 is very close to the BR50 design. But in case of War Economics they had to produce a Loco most cost effective.
The tender shows a rigid frame work for the wheels. This is Austrian design and certainly not the way German design works.
The other two types had the usual bogies. One could think this was a cheap solution. But it did not pay off. A rigid frame works like a brake.
In modeling it looks like this.
Still a lot to do. Pipes and elelctric will be next.
Happy with the results so far, hope you all enjoy my build.

Robert Jan

Hi.
Besides the back of the coal tender, the watertank and coalbunker, are ready for some decals.
Did some scratchwork today for the electrics, wires conected to the lanterns on the back.
It's waiting for the PE to come. Some boxes need to be changed and Eduard shows only one side of the tender, so I don't know excactly what to expect.
Left one side open, so the tank can be refilled with water. Watercolumn I'm going to scratch also.
Pictures...
All done with AK washes and pigments. Coal added on top is made of crushed lava rock. Soaked in glue mived with semigloss black paint.
Hope you all like it so far.
I'm gona start with the loco frame tonight, so I have to make some space on my bench.
Regards,
Robert Jan

I took a quick look through. I thought the format was a little weird and was rather tired so I didn't get much farther than that. I'll probably go through the whole thing today or tomorrow. I got really inspired by Cem's railway diorama so I'm building a railcar right now; out of balsa, and I'm always looking for Reichsbahn photos now.
Looking forward to seeing your start on the locomotive.

Hi.
The rain effect is supposed to be water from the tank. When they fill it, water will be running down the tank.
Got my PE today for the BR52.
I'm all ZEN now.
Frame for the BR52 will be finished later today. Pictures will follow later.
Some changes are made to the construction, but I need to order some resin bolts to finish that.
Regards,
Robert Jan

Hi.
Frameworks on the BR52. Combination with PE does slow down the work. But the results are great. For now there is not much to see of the mini details.
Not all PE is great, some don't fit and I had to adjust.
Some pictures...
Coal tender. PE is on now, waiting for the final parts.
Frame for the BR52. It's a 2 days work. Need to get some bending tools for my PE. Big she is...
One airtank is on. Dry fit, still need to make some parts and then the second one comes next to it.
Inline picture. mext job is to make some extra parts from scratch and remove some of the front. That will be visible in my later updates on this train.
That's all for now, hope you enjoy this.
Regards,
Robert Jan

Hi Jerry.
Takes a long way home. I'll never buy a Trump again.
Cleaning is a 80% time waste building this kit.
Don't know if they have a better reputation now, but this one is bad. For the putty story I'll try Chuck's trick with white correction fluid. By sanding, most of the sinkholes are reduced, so it might work.
Been kit bashing & scratching today. Pictures will come later this weekend.
Regards and a good weekend to all,
Robert Jan

Some progress at the front of the BR52
Air hoses, electrics and fenders are mounted. PE stuff is still so small, you simply have to know it's there.
Scratching the lady.
