The minute I saw the first HobbyBoss postings of their early sprue shots for the new 750gal. Deuce and a Half CCKW model I thought the enclosed cab had a problem.
I thought it looked too narrow front to back as though it had been driven into a wall.

To determine this, first I searched for the most 90 degree "profile" flat photo I could find of a CCKW enclosed cab on the internet. I then took one of HB's own sprue photos and cropped in on the right hand door. Finally I overlayed the two images using Gimp photo software.
The door starts an inch and a half from the bottom edge of the cab (As it should) because the edge of the cab floor forms the bottom molding of the cab on both the model and on the actual vehicle.

This is the photo that first triggered my suspicions.
Even in perspective this photo just looked wrong.
I had had hopes that either the photo was distorted or this one molding had been slightly warped. Unfortunately I feel neither is the case.

So sorry HB, I was really looking forward to your new offering and also the Short Wheel Base truck you are planning on.
Suggestion HB; please, please, please introduce the open cab fuel truck first (So far it looks great!) And hold up on the enclosed cab until you fix this serious problem - while you still can.

Oh well I will then be substituting the Italeri water truck enclosed cab on this model. I can always use the left over HB doors to laminate onto the inside of the Italeri doors to give them better detail and the correct thickness.

That's swell, but what is the dimensional difference between the kit part and a real truck's door?

Darren's right it's to late now, maybe just maybe Hobby Boss will correct the cab on the Short Wheel Base version.
How much does Italeri charge for replacement parts. May be they could package their enclosed cab as a separate item.
Does any one have both the Hobby Boss and the Italeri enclosed cab kits. Could you take a couple pic's of both cabs next to each other and some of the doors on top of each other and next to each other.

I don't think they sell parts, but at most shows you can find entire Italeri kits for less than what you would probably pay for shipping.

I don't think Italeri sells parts either but I also agree it is easier to just buy a full kit at a hobby show or on eBay. And of course the Italeri water truck was just recently re-released so that makes is easier to find.

Down at the World War II Museum in New Orleans all this week. They have a BEAUTIFUL SWB Deuce hard cab that they MIGHT let me measure!

OK, Toni at the WWII Museum is traveling on business today but Kim was nice enough to help us out.
The bottom edge of the closed cab Deuce door is 34 1/4 inches wide. Also the door is 31 3/4 inches wide at the belt line molding so those of you with the HobbyBoss model Deuce in hand, scale it out for us and let us know how the model measures up.

Hi, Mike! If the doors and cab are too short, wouldn't the ITALERI cab be a tiny bit too long for the HOBBY BOSS chassis? I don't have any of HOBBY BOSS' CCKW kits, so I can't make this comparison on my own...

I suspect the overall frame length is correct but if it is not then lenthening the frame 2 - 4 inches under the cab should not be a great problem.

A lot of work and quite difficult to do cleanly, but probably doable. The problem is that you would end up with a cab a couple of millimeters too long to fit to other kit parts...
