I was looking in Feb issue of Military in scale and someone has done a DIO of this but they put the figure on the wrong side of the tank. I guess they didn't want the track block falling on his resin head.

You can check hometown-hobbies. They have a wide variety of Eduard PE set for certain types & scale of armor models.

Do all M1A1, especially those that were used in OIF, have APU's?

Not all M1A1s have APUs Cardinal . There are a lot of them on the tanks in OIF , so it is ok either way .

Cardinal,
If you are modeling a Marine Tank, they all had the EAPU's

How about those from the Army like the 3Rd ID(Mechanized)? Do all of them have the EAPU?

Howdy fellas,

This might be a redundant question after Rob was so kind to post a link to a diagram of the non-skid surface configuration on the M1A1. But, (and here's a potentially silly question), could you use the Dragon M1A1HA upper hull (that has the non-skid applied) as a template? In other words, would the Dragon non-skid layout be correct?
Since I am building both, I was just curious.
Thanks.

Cardinal,
I'm not sure about the Army, but if you track down John Charvat he may have the answer for you.

Thanks for the referral Andy...

3ID also used the External Auxiliary Power Unit (EAPU) that is found in the bustle rack of most M1A1 kits. Matter of fact, all US tanks except the M1A2 SEP use the same type of EAPU. The A2 SEP uses an under armor Auxiliary Power Unit found where the left real fuel cell is on the other versions of the M1

Suffice to say; most of the 1/35th scale versions of the EAPU need some work, mainly new doors and such on the top of the unit. Andy Elesky reports that the one found in the new Tamiya kit is a good start. I have heard that he is casting some up so he might be persuaded to parting with some, he needs to so he can support his hobby fix

The anti skid surface on the DML kit is pretty accurate. I have seen variations o it as well, as this is applied at the unit level and there is some room for that variation. I would consider going to Pavel (Vodnick's) website and trying out his method of applying your own anti-skid surface, as it is the most realistic I hae yet seen. I intend to do this on my own kit if I can.

There's one in the M1 details set from Legend, but I prefer the one in the Tamiya M1A2 kit (I've got them both)

Frenchy,
So far the best EAPU available is the one in the new Tamiya M1A2 kit, it has a small hole that needs to be filled other than that it matches the real thing. Check out my link below and it shows some resing casts that I made.

Being totally cheap, who makes a decent CHEAP, replacement barrel for the M1A1?

I have the Barrel Depot barrel which IIRC cost me about $14 before shipping. I know there is also a Modelpoint barrel out there, but I don't know how much one of those goes for.

I'm looking for some photos of a Marine M1A1 "Sinister Minister"...

I think I saw some a the Full Metal Jacket website just before it closed down.. And as far as I remember (Correct me if I'm wrong), the photos was contributed by Andy Elesky...

Anyone got those photos?

Howdy fellas,

Looking for a potentially cheap way to go (since I'm building a coupleof them) to get both the 'Bigfoot' tracks, and, more importantly, the correct drive sprocket (with holes). I saw the Hobby Craft 'Leatherneck' version of the Abrams at my local Hobby Lobby and looked in the box, and lo and behold there was the rubber band Bigfoot's and the correct looking drive sprockets. Here's my question. Are those parts good enough to use on the Tamiya I'm building (and do they fit the Tammy kit)?
Didn't someone already say the Hoby Craft kits are reboxed Trumpeter's?
Those Hobby Craft 'Leatherneck's' are a pretty cheap alterantive. Plus there are obviously other parts you can either use or throw in the parts box.

Thx,

Tread.

I am in desperate need of a set of vinyl tracks for my abrams. I just wasted an hour with the kit tracks (dragon). So if anyone has a set they would part with I would appreciate it very much and I am in the group build.
Thanks
