I am in desperate need of a set of vinyl tracks for my abrams. I just wasted an hour with the kit tracks (dragon). So if anyone has a set they would part with I would appreciate it very much and I am in the group build.
Thanks

I believe I have a spare set at work, will check tonight. PM me with your address, and if I got them, I'll mail them Monday.
I also resized the photos in my gallery.... finially figured out that I had to do it on my computer, before uploading them.......... if they are still too large, for easy loading on dail-up, let me know, and I'll resized them again.

Treadhead, The Trumpeter/Hobbycraft sprockets are better than the others since they do have mud holes, so they would work, but they take a little modification to fit the tamiya hull. Actually, it's the shaft they fit on that has to be modified, in that you will have to cut it down some. The Trumpeter kit has several nice features, namely the individual road arms and a more accurate lower hull, with fenders that can be lifted to show the front idler and tracks.
The most accurate drive sprocket I have found so far is included in the Legends M1 accessory set. You get a lot of cool crap in there to throw in the bustle rack as well.

Howdy Bro',
Manyt thx for the intel. Then that would be a good option...good. I have another OIF dio planned where I think I can hide the incorrect drive sprockets (a night laager). So they won't go to waste, and I can still use the Trump/HC kit.
Yes, the Dragon kit comes with the 'sectional' side skirts as well, but since I've already decided to show my HA with the #7 skirt removed, and the #6 skirt pivoted and in the 'open' position. The Dragon configuration isn't going to help me.......this time.
Thx again.
Tread.

Looking for the dimensions for the AAPU that is on the left rear top on an M1A1. Some of you have made your own, as I plan to do, but I cant seem to find any detail on its size. Anybody have a link to some more info, if so, that would be greatly apreciated!

Melon, everything I read simply said it was slightly undersized, so I simply made it a slightly larger.
I haven't lost any sleep over it, and certainly hope nobody else does.

Hi there melon. I was thinking of asking the same question before. My Tamiya M1A1 comes with the APU mounted on the right tail light of the tank. Just a few days ago I found out that the Legend M1A1 accessories that I have came with the top rear mounted resin APU. I don't know any links that has the actual dimensions of the APU but if you want I could give you the dimensions of the resin APU or you could wait a while, maybe some of the guys here, especially Maj. Rob, could help you. Just PM me.

Sorry Guys, I am looking for the dimensions of the conduit and adapter that connects the AAPU to the vehicle. It appears to attach to the top of the turret next to the blow off panels. But anyway, I already built it, I figure if its wrong, only those who have served on one will ever notice. By the way, there are lots of folks who are in the Abrams build, but yet we only have seen a few pictures, lets see some pics of your models! Really like to see others ideas and skills. I really learn a lot and put into use the ideas that I see.

Got a few questions.
1. Some places say the blow off panels on USMC M1A1's have those
3 round things on them, others say they don't.
And I'm confused.....
are they there or not?
2. Did the marines have the snorkel equipment installed in OIF?
and if they did, anyone got a photo or two on how they actually were attached?
Seems strange just attaching them to a piece of screening.

Hello Grumpy,
The answer to question one is that we have both, so if your building a specific tank check your photos.
Yes, the Marine tanks the deployed as part of the MEU's had them. A total of eight tanks out of the 140 that we had in country. I'll check to see if I have a picture? Would a scan of the TM for the stack's suffice?

Talking about USMC M1A1s exhaust stack :
http://community.webshots.com/photo/104026760/107900642vDqxQz Nicely weathered paint job by the way...(and the add-on bustle rack paint doesn't seem to be rust-proof !)

No answers on attaching the snorkel equipment?!
The Dragon M1A1HA "Iraqi Freedom" gives a square frame with nuts and bolts but because of the OIF-theme of the kit it doesn't say how to attach it, but most likely with that frame.
Leaves only one question; what's the piece just above the back-snorkel?

Jurgen,
I don't know what it is, I've talked to a couple of friends and they think this may be a modification made to a broken exhaust elbow.

First post here. I'm looking at building either a M1A1 or M1A2 from the 1/18th scale "Blue-Box" model toy. Actually, it looks good, although I have to admit that I haven't taken a ruler to it. Has anyone been as screwy as I am, in working on this one? If so, any pointers???

Ask Sabot (Rob Gronovious), I think he has a friend who built one up, but he won't reply in this thread, so you will have to PM him.

After looking at the webshots photo from a few post up. I went and start looking at some of the other photos on the site an dfound this one. It's a Marine tank, with a "new style" of protection for the crew. This would be a nice mod for a build. It looks like they have done it on both sides, or I should said opened them on both sides.

I just scanned the top of the Tamiya Abrams turret I am doing anti-skid coating on. I hae drawn out the areas that the anti-skid coating will be applied and thought this might be a good reference for you guys. This is typical but there are variations. Some units will do it on the manhole cover and some will do it on the blast panels, but this is the most typical variation. It is how they come out of the Lima plant after the AIM update.

I've a question about the current tracks used on the Abrams. I understand that the designation is the T-158. Can anyone please post pictures of both sides? I'm looking at the Trumpeter kit and understand that the kit tracks aren't accurate, but howso?

Sorry Guys,
I've got to bow out of the Campaign, I've been ordered to go to the real one. I will be back in about 8 months. I will try and take some cool shots of things and post them when I get back.
