Luckily the instructions are available at Hobby Search website.

I assembled the hull, front bumper and the rear steps and according to my measurement the Panda kit length is 177.3mm without the horn and 180.4 with it (not sure whether it should be included, but I assume that it should as it is a standard fitting). The real thing is 6350mm long, what is 181.4mm in 1:35 scale. If it includes the horn on the front bumper, then the Panda kit is almost spot on in length. But it is too narrow...

Now someone has to measure the Meng kit overall length and width and compare them to numbers published by General Dynamics: http://www.gdls.com/index.php/products/mrap-family/cougar6x6

I'm a bit skeptical, as the width given at this website is different between 4x4 and 6x6 variants by 4 inches, while the width numbers given by GDLS are identical for both versions... Also the length numbers are significantly different between GDLS and Olive-drab.com. Maybe the difference results from the fact, that O-d.com numbers are for JERRVs and those at GDLS are for Cougar MRAPs.

There's also a difference between the length of the vertical front part of the left fender of the 4x4 and the 6x6 Cougar! I think the 6x6 part is a little bit longer on the pics.

Great stuff, thanks!

With these drawings I will make a detailed analysis of the Panda 4x4 kit. Unfortunately I don't have the Meng kit to do the same. And will not get it until I know exactly where the problem with this kit is.

Thank you Miloslav.

According the driver views the front part of the 6x6 and the 4x4 cougar look the same size.

Could someone measure the length of the lower hull part A1 in the Meng kit, please?

I made some preliminary checks using the TM drawings posted by Miloslav (which by the way show the high roof version, not the low roof as in the Meng kit) and painting diagram from the Meng instructions. When I rescale them using the dimensions given on the TM drawings (length of 749cm what equals 214mm in 1:35) and the known length of the Meng hood (54.5mm) the results are really scary...

But to confirm them, I need the A1 part length.

From the TM drawing I measured the hood length as 49,7mm in 1:35. This makes the Meng hood 4.8mm too long. But if I'm not mistaken, it is not just the hood that is too long, so is the rest of the hull...

I'm now almost certain that Meng made a mistake and missed the fact that published official Cougar length numbers include the boarding steps at the rear and scaled their kit so that it is as long without the steps

Oh my... It should be approx. 189 - 190mm So it is about 10mm too long.

Yes, I know "it is just a drawing, not the actual model", but all kit manufacturers now use the same CAD drawings for the tool making and for creating the instructions. Also I scaled the drawing to match the dimensions measured from kit parts by Hisham and Jason.

Hi guys!

Did someone ASK Meng so far?

As I love the vehicle and Meng's models and I don't care about some mm in the size of the subject, for me it isn't a problem.

But I understand those who prefer perfect measures.

Just my two cents.

Cheers!

I don't care for "perfect", but 10mm is more that I can easily accept And in the comparison above the Meng Cougar looks just wrong with it's ridiculouly long hood

Luckily, my eyes are too weak and can't discern anything less than 20mm

No seriously, it's just one of those things in our hobby where.. if it bothers you, don't buy the kit.. and if it doesn't bother you, buy it.. and everyone is happy

I have one, I'll check this tonight. It will be "rough" measurements though, don't have calipers.

At the moment with the number of kits in my stash it's more :

"if it bothers you, don't buy the kit.. and if it doesn't bother you, don't buy it."

Yup, the same here

But it is particularly sad case: beautifully tooled and very nicely detailed kit and such a rookie unfixable mistake

Just a thought, Pascal maybe don't want us to discuss the size of the kit in his build blog... Maybe we shall start a new tread about the size of the model if it's the correct size or not on it... But as i said, just my thought... I don't know if Pascal care if we use his topic for that, but i personally i would not have liked it if it was my build blog...

today i got my cougar and i must say it looks very nice, and as i said before in Hishams topic with instructions , for me it does not matter if the size of the kit is 100% right , for me it's enough if it looks good... I think we can find many faults in many kits but they are not bad for that...

Looking forward to follow your build blog Pascal as your modern kits you have build lately are amazing and one of the finest kits i have seen..

Hope it's ok that i write this and that nobody gets angry on me for that...

I just want to say... Build the kit and be happy for that we have got it...

Sorry if my englisch is not so good....

Well, Pascal asked if we have any information about the hood length difference. It was just our answer

It is always interesting to speek about accuracy from one kit.

So this discussion can be included in my built post. Today I have to finish another kit before working on the Cougar. That give some times to study the accuracy from these 2 vehicles.

So feel free to post all Cougar's knowledges here!

Looks good. The length including the boarding steps should be 214mm, so 204mm without steps is more or less correct.
The width over the rear fenders should be 77.4, but including the side marker lights, so 75.2mm w/o those lights is probably just a tiny bit too narrow.
