I wish I had sent them my measurements earlier, but I had promised them to naother company. They have them now, for whatever it's worth.

So we can blame you for the error, then?

Shame about the extendo-hood, but it looks like a very nice kit otherwise.

Shame about the extendo-hood,

Not just the hood - the entire hull is stretched in length... It would be somewhat fixable if it was the hood only, but it isn't...

Wish they would have put the Tac-4 suspension instead of the crappy Marmon Harrington straight axles! With the mine rollers on the trucks we were changing springs every two weeks because they couldn't handle the terrain in Afghanistan.

Before we get into a "interdimensional" battle, has anyone measured the real Cougar? Rob Skipper????

Well stated.

For anyone out there in the know...is there a difference in the dimensions of the original version compared to the improved raised roof version?

Just throwing it out there in case it is a possibility that Meng used a combination of technical references of two versions to create their kit.

NO. The hull of the A1 and A2 are the same. The difference was only in the height. I worked for Force Protection Industries for 5 years so I know a little about these things.

Thanks for the confirmation Bill. Great to get info from a credible source. Feel free to additional information about the vehicle details.

I was a Field Service Rep for Force Protection and also to work overseas I had to go to school to be certified on all the other MRAPs as well.

To me the difference in the hull lengths is not a big deal. I had a hand in building the real vehicles and one of the things that always bothered me was that not one hull was the same as the other! Every Cougar,JERRV,HEV, and the other others were ALL built by hand! Most of the hulls were cut and made by another company and FPI put them all together. So when the measurements were taken they probably were correct for THAT vehicle. In my opinion the Cougar was the best of the MRAPs but because the company couldn't keep up with production they lost out to the other manufacturers.

Very good insight and thanks for sharing. While I am not doubting you, it seems very odd that they would not use standardized dimensions

I found it really odd too but like I said these were all built by hand and it all depended on the fitters. The measurements were all standardized but when it got to the tape measure it all came out different. You would have thought they would use templates but Nooooo. Example no hood or door would fit the next truck over without doing some kind of grinding and cutting! It drove me nuts doing Battle damage repairs.

But I know that some will still be bothered by the dimensions of the model but not this guy. I'm glad to see my vehicle as a model with the others.

I remember seeing a video about a few English guys trying to restore a WW2 Comet tank. The tank they had on hand was in a very rough condition, they needed to get parts from other 'dead' Comets for their project. If my memory serves me right, the frontal armour they removed from another 'dead' Comet just wouldnt fit on the one they were working on(the angle wasnt right or something liked that)the guy did mention something liked since Comet tanks were hand welded in the production line, fitting differential between each tank had caused them such fitting problem.

Are you sure about those 6 mm? My measurement gave me 4.2 mm too narrow (73.2 mm wide hull w/rear fenders). Still bad, but not 6 mms bad.
