Still but a little closer to the subject matter. This one was never used in a game, but it is another ROCO 1/87th (HO) scale kit, a Roland II. I tried my hand at some 'action' attempting to mimic the vehicle in the pic.

(And yes, the tow cables were replicated with real wire!)

@daGreatQueeg: Your Hummel APC conversions are still my favourite. Pity, that German designers had not the same idea.
@1stjaeger
That I call a collection. I guess your dealer (who was your main dealer in Wien?) had always a big smile in his face.
I guess you are also on Gomodelling next weekend?

Thanks Jim.

Yes - it's probably too fragile for the gaming table but the challenge for me has been to refine what is fundamentally a good (but not entirely accurate) representation of the Warthog into something that will sit comfortably beside my other 1/48 scale armour.

I picked up the Armorcast M113 recently. Given my obsession with the M113, I couldn't resist the opportunity to do something along the same lines as the Warthog project, so stay tuned and I'll let people know when I start it

John

Well I think you nailed it Keith. Love those discarding sabot sheaths ! That idea would make an impressive dio in 1/35th ....

Robert - always have appreciated your interest. I've been slowly collecting bits for another Hummel construction burst, I hope to get 3 or 4 new conversions done this year including a autoloading MGS.

John - Can't wait to see what you can do with the M113!

And I got some actual wargaming only projects rolling in over the next few months. Pretty much straight builds so no "accuraising" unfortunately,28mm vehicles mostly from Warlord and JTFM.

A couple of assembly pics below, the Warlord 222 isn't much chop unfortunately but the JTFM Lynx should paint ok ....

Hey Ron, Sounds interesting! - any pictures?

And it seems like it's construction time here, nothing flash, all 28mm gaming stuff ..... added a few details and got some more still to add then it's into tarting them up with paint.

@Brent--great work, as always!

@Ron--also very nice! Cool conversions. I especially like the 'steel wheels'

Not to be outdone by Brent ( ), I'm gonna add my own gamer 'in-work' build pics. These are for my daughter. My son-in-law recently got her into Warhammer 40K and she's assembling a Space Wolves army. I thought I'd help her out, while also trying my hand at one of these kits.
Sooo...when completed, these will be used in a game.

The box art:

Sprues, with a bag o’ bases:

Assembly was fairly simple and straightforward (using the ol’ ‘clothespins method’):

I decided to make the heads interchangeable. I’m not sure if it has any practical application in the game (I’m guessing not), but with the multiple expressions on the critters’ faces, it was begging to be done:

Great stuff Ron, gee you'd be hard pressed to spot the M113 in there! ps I think I've seen that before too .... Warseer maybe?

And nice doggies Keith Nice that your daughter and son-in-law are interested in gaming. I couldn't part my son from his PC and Xbox if I tried ......

Really nice stuff in here. Got the Wargaming bug myself recently and here's my first bunch of finished Bolt Action 28mm stuff. Though just finished the last touches today, they've all been in action already, with one victory and one loss to their "credit".

I've got two understrength infantry squads of 7 men, one bazooka team, one sniper team, one command team. 20 men all in all plus one M24. I've already got a set of Nisei Infantry to add to these, which I will build as two Nisei squads and some reinformcements for these.

Figures mostly built OOB with a few modified ones, such as the spotter in the sniper team and a few others. Had lots of fun building these and I like the way the heads are attached and can be posed any way you like. Painted with Vallejo.

M24 got some mods on the turret front which was way off, to make it look more like an M24. Also a few additions to the hull and stowage from the spares bin. Painted with Tamiya.

Cheers!

@Stefan--excellent work! And then you rushed the boys into action?! Congrats on the win , condolences on the loss . Just the right amount of weathering on the tank, and the figures look fantastic--lots of detail.

Will you be building more?

Nice stuff Stefan, missed your post earlier - the bolt action GIs look really good.

Made progress on the gaming builds I have here. I'm going to get all the builds for the Hohenstaufen recce unit squared away before tackling final painting and detailing on them.

A few pics taken recently from one of our rules development/playtesting sessions. US Special forces assaulting a fortified compound in central Afghanistan. MATVs are Empress, M1A1 is 1/48th from Gasoline, Special Forces troops are Empress and Insurgents mostly Empress with a few Radio Dishdash.

I built and painted the vehicles and my brother did the troops and the terrain. Bigger pics on the blog ......

cheers

@Brent--How went the play test and rules development? Good looking and believable vehicles and figures. How did you guys make the dwellings and structures?

@Ray--interesting looking pet! Yeah, with a little work it would be a nice piece. Are you going to use it in a game?

After a major bout of 'life gets in the way' I found some time to do some therapeutic airbrushing. They're looking a little more 'wolvish' now. I'm hoping their coats will look even more the part after some colored washes and drybrushing.

It was bugging me, so I went ahead and airbrushed some white on their bellies and inner legs. That makes their fur four-tone. A coat of Future Floor Poish has also been applied in preperation for an oil wash.

I suppose its time to start working on the stands also.

Finally tried the Kool-aid the other day and bought myself some Citadel Space Marines....

Considering that they have some fairly useful large áreas to paint i'm considering some weird finishes and gone thru some of my German Camo references along with some Urban Camo schemes. I'm also thinking of the shield of F.C. Barcelona.... have I finally flipped?

More than anything the joy of painting!

Jim, welcome to the dark side!

Sounds cool! Will you have the chance to start them soon and post some pics? If not, then hoe about a shot of the box art so we all know what you're talking about?

You are spot-on with your last comment--it's all about the paint...

Hi Keith,

very sorry for not replying earlier but I've been really crook for the last 6 weeks or so and are really just starting to feel well enough to be able sit up at the PC and even try a little modelling again.

My brother did a quickish tutorial on how he did the buildings here, and as a picture is better than a thousand words . . .

http://skirmishsangin.blogspot.co.nz/2013/12/making-terrain-for-afghanistan.html

The hills were tree bark epoxied to MDF bases, blended in with polyfiller and then textured by stippling the plaster on with a large housebrush.

As for our rules, they're going (were, progress has slowed due to my being laid low) really well and are pretty much playing the way we want. It's mostly minor tweaking of stats at the moment and making sure the less used and more powerful weapons and rules integrate properly

Here's a couple of overview shots of how they're looking, we're hoping to make them eventually available on a free/donation basis.

ps your wolves are looking really good. Fur is a dang hard thing to paint !

cheers

Brent,
Well another six weeks+ have gone by and I’m just now getting around to replying. I hope, by now, you’re fully recovered and over whatever was ailin’ ya.

Those game rules/instructions look extremely detailed and professional. I wish I could zoom in and read them fully. I almost spit out some coffee when I read the line on the Activation Points and Movement Table: “Laugh at opponent’s expense—1 AP”

Your brother does some great work. Stamping/pressing/cutting the bricks into the foam seems simple yet ingenious. Is he a member here? Does he build the structures and you do the vehicles and figures?

So, what have you been working on recently? Got anything new with which to amaze us?

Keith
