Thanks to Brent Watterson (DaGreatQueeg) and his braille scale Panther Campaign entries, the subject of building kits for war games came up. Bob Woodman (panzerbob01) joined in the conversion too, which got us thinking that there is a whole community of gamers out there.

Yes, there is a 'TV, Movies, & Games' Off-Topic forum, but this thread is for gamers to show off the kits they build for the games. Hence, model related.

I'll start.
Back in the late 70's, early 80's, I played a home-grown game that we called (without much imagination) "Mini-Tanks". We used HO scale (1/87th) RoCo armor and HO scale railroad buildings and scenery. I haven't played it in years, but I still build HO scale armor.

Period pics of our layout in the LHS:

So, war gamers, show us your builds! Armor, aircraft, ships, sci-fi, What-Ifs, whatever.

I'm NOT READY for this! Too much letting hair down and stuff!

I have no "period pics" - or if I do, they may be buried as slides or prints in some moldering carton somewhere.

But... "I'll be BACK" as the big guy said

I can photo some of my relics...

Hey Guys!

Maybe it is just the three of us

I've probably got a homefield advantage on this one as pretty much everything I do is destined for gaming whether it's customer stuff or my own.

I thought I'd post up some of the groups of stuff, followed by some games later on.

cheers
Brent

Holy [auto-censored] Brent, if I produce that many builds during my entire lifetime I'd be extremely happy! (and to that awesome quality to boot)

Thanks Johan !!!

And most of this is my older stuff. I'm having a few photobucket issues at present, when they sort themselves out I'll post up some of the later groups.

Fantastic! I don't think I would let any of that collection be handled in a game! What scale is all that stuff?

Hey Bob,

It's all 20mm, a mix of 1/76th resin stuff (mostly Milicast) and 1/72nd. I've got some 1/48th and 28mm gaming stuff too which I'll post at some stage.

And it's probably a little more robust than it looks but the bigger stuff is certainly better suited to pushing around and making tank noises with

Hello Keith,

The second photo from you're first post looks like the South side of the "Live Oaks" map on W.O.T.
Love the older Datsun in the first photo sitting outside.
Ah carp, just grew in another grey hair.
Correction, more fell out.
Makes you wonder if that was the genesis for W.O.T.

See ya in the funnies..............

@MBR--Yes indeed! The more the merrier. I look forward to seeing your work.

I hope the Armorama powers-that-be don't take issue with our mixing genres.

@Bob--No hurry, as we see things are picking up in this thread! I would still like to swap homemade rules with everyone. Is there a way to post docs?

@Brent--wholly crap! Johan wasn't kidding, those are just short of magnificent! I wish my 1/35th kits came out that good.

@Brian--I haven't tried WoT yet, but I've been intrigued by the ads. If only I was cool enough to drive that ol' Datsun. I had to settle for the family Vista-cruiser station wagon!

@KoSprueOne--You're welcome. Hope to see you around more.

Wow, love the quality of those kits!

I've recently been persuaded by a friend to try out Bolt Action wargame (he's from a Warhammer background) and got a starter set of 20 US Infantry and an M24 in 28mm. They're currently all waiting for paint, so I'll post something as soon as I got some finished. Now that would explain why my M24 "3 at a time" build log is stalled...

Cheers and keep 'em coming!

Let me add about Brent's vehicles - WOW! Well done.

Where can I get a non-Warhammer 40K 28mm scale tank kit. My gaming group does micro-armor and role playing games, and we are going to do some Sci-fi role playing game, and I would like a tank like vehicle to be used.

Thanks for any assistance

I prefer 1/300 microarmour gaming with 1 model = 1 veh. The scales seem to work better form me thatn the larger HO=>28mm stuff. I think I prefer the slightly feel of the distances involved uless you really have 30 feet of floor to set up on! :-)

I'll dig out a couple of my GHQ stuff for photos.

I also made several sets of 1/300 scenery that I used to sell. Trench lines for WW I and II, gun positions, bridges (intact and blown up) and even some buildings made from configured GHQ stuff that was assembled and then cast as a unit. All cast in resin.

Wish I could find someone here in Ontario to play with again!

Paul, we also play our micro-armor 1=1 and infantry as squads.

Odd story with our group. My friend and I that played in my basement went on deployment to Iraq, and I played with our mutual friend some role playing games and board wargames at his place. We were discussing what type of games we like, and brought out his old collection of micro-armor from 20 years. I have a large collection with buildings and Geo-Hex 3-D terrain. Maybe I would have mentioned my micro-armor 'armies,' but he was interested and since then our group does push those metal tanks a lot.

Hey Duane,

There are a few around, Antenocitis Workshop do some, Dust make a range that is more walker related, AT-43 stuff is available but the company has gone into liquidation.

http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/
http://www.dustgame.com/

But it really does depend on what look you're going for. I'd suggest a search for 28mm Sci-fi vehicles and go from there. Converting them form existing historical kits is a good option too ....

And I started with micro, I wish we still had it all as it was sold off many years ago. It was pretty much all GHQ and we had both late WW2 and Cold War (60's-80's) moderns.

And some pics from one of the few games I actually have pictures for. I don't have many gaming shots unfortunately, usually you're too busy to bother and mostly the lighting is crap. Plus must of my collection is pretty naff. Just like a mechanic my customers get the best stuff and I get very little time to work on my own.

Anyway we play a mix of platoon - mixed company sized games in 20mm and 12 - 20 man sized skirmishes in 28mm. We always use 1:1 ratios and our own rules which aim to prevent the zero range "tank pile ups" you tend to associate with 40k, Rapid Fire or Flames of War. When we use vehicles in 28mm they are rare and usually appear in scenarios or as random table reinforcements.

@Brent--That is your game setup?!? It looks better than many dioramas. I'm still amazed by your work.

@MBR--I'm still looking forward to you posting some of your sci-fi/fantasy stuff!

@Bob--Still looking forward to seeing some of your kits too. No hurry, just a reminder.

@Duane/Paul/Max--No worries about hijacking the thread through game talk, that's partly what we're here for.

A few more of the RoCo HO (1/87th) Scale Mini-Tanks:

MBT to attack the enemy:

Anti-tank to do more of the same:

Recce to find the enemy, report their position, and call in arty:

And our game even had rules for vehicle recovery and repair:
