Wow! That tent is looking really, really good. The job you are doing with this diorama is inspirational. Whenever I get around to making an attempt at making a tent, I hope it comes out even half as good as yours is.
Keep up the great work. I will look through my photos and see if I have a good view of what the door would look like.
Cheers,
James

Dear friends,
Thanks a lot for your comments and efforts to help.
Romain - my friend, I got it now. But it is not possible to make it at this moment as putty dried and hard as rock
but maybe I can try to simulate seams at the painting stage.

I assume that you already have plans to make the two openings for the tent stoves? There was one at each end and they had closure flaps. There were also vent flaps on each end that were triangle shape. You can see all this in the first color pic some one posted.

Hi Jerry,
yes, I plan to make both of the holes and looking for better close-up photos for details. Do you know is there a mesh under the vent hole cover?

Yes,the vent has a mosquito net under it. The holes for the stove of course have no net.

Hi all,
Tent is almost done, just need some sanding here and there. Door panels, vent hole w/mosquito net, stove hole, tied and untied straps added. Please inform me for any mistakes or parts that need correction at this point. Next step will be wooden floor and sandbag frame.
best regards

Wow! That looks outstanding. I bet if that were offered in kit form it would be a big seller.

This is looking great. I'm surprised there aren't any kits of tents available as they are so useful for dioramas.

Thanks all for your comments.
A small weekend progress. Tent floor is done with wooden planks.
My special thanks to James O'Leary and Jerry Rutman for providing me very useful info and excellent photos.

I will use these kits for dio. Some figures will be converted for suitable poses for a Budweiser party. May I ask such a party is allowed on a basecamp and lady can join party escorted by a ranked guy?
best regards

Engin,
The floor turned out very nice. I am really liking this diorama as it is being built.
The idea of the Soldiers drinking beer in and around the tent is plausible as most Soldiers received a ration of 2 beers a day...and if you saved them and created a stash you could wait until later and drink more that just two on special occasions. Units also sometimes had cook outs where they would cook steaks and stuff and there was usually a trailer full of ice and beer.
The hooker being allowed near living quarters on a base is doubtful as most units would not allow it not to mention that someone dressed like that figure would draw unwanted attention from the brass. Now, many bases had hooch maids that would wash uniforms, shine boots, and sweep the floors. Sometimes they would turn tricks, but they wore traditional peasant clothing like the black pajamas bottoms and possibly a simple colored shirt.
The cots should be arranged like in the first picture.
Could you take a picture of what the contents of the equipment set look like? I have been curious about it but all of the webstores that do carry it do not allow for clear pictures of the contents.
Keep up the great work.

Thanks all for your comments.
Bill - Mule is not a very good kit but no other option.I decided it doesn't worth to use PE kit for details.
Another small update to add some stuff around... table and folding chairs for inside tent from Tamiya US Command set. Scratchbuilt half drum barbecues, folding tables, stool and first steps of a 36 gallon lister bag.

The folding table and all the other stuff is really looking great and taking shape nicely. Gotta love that you are including a lister bag. I don't think I have ever seen that in a dio before.
This is gonna rock!

Excellent attention to detail, Engin!
You are bringing this diorama so much life just in the accessories! Once the figures are placed in the mix, it is going to be an epic diorama even if the guys are just relaxing. I look forward to your updates.
Keep up the great work,
James

The tent looks fantastic, and I really like the barbeques made out of the 55 gallon drums.
Cheers!
