Back to the build.I'm going to detail the Dragon turret first.

I'm not sure what the 2 fittings in the middle front top are fore?

I replaced the antena mounts with brass ones from RB Models, they look a lot better.

Added small pieces of plastic behind the ends of the tow cables, otherwise they are left hanging.

The two posts sticking off the turret top in pics 56 and 58 are bump stops for the CROWS II when it is in the stowed position for rail/air transport. It lays down across the top of the turret when stowed.

Thanks for the info. Did I get them the right way?

The Thermal Imaging sight has fittings on the back side that aren't on the Tamiya kit.

There is a tricky fitting of the main turret basket, a lot of care is needed here.

Well back to work for me.

They look correct to me.

Stowed CROWS IIs.

In pic 60, that is the mount for the GPS antenna. Tamiya missed it on theirs.

Thanks for the Pics. They will come in handy when I get to the Crows part.
I did get the block closest to the front, backwards. I'll be changing it.
Thanks again.

Gino,
a question a bit off topic if you don't mind. Does the Styker OWS fold down for transport as well ? Seeing as it sports a large torsion spring along the front edge similar to the CROWS I'm thinking yes.

This is so helpful! You guys are the best and I am following closely.

May I please back up to DRAGON step 4? What (where to go)is PE part MA1, some kind of vent? and on DRAGON step 5 as confused on some fender PE? What (and where to) are MA19 (MA20) at the fender inside edge? Thank you for any insight you could share...

In Step #4 I couldn't find this Vent ? in any of my reference Pics.
so I left it off.
Dragon is noted for screwed up instructions.
In step #5 parts # MA19 &20 look like guides to keep the edges of the movable part of the fender in line with the fixed fender.
(I think ? )

I have the sub assemblies for the dragon turret finished.
I have a lot of Pics. to post, so please be patient.
Donald
As seen below the instructions would have you use # N27 in step #15 this is only correct if you are not using the Crows II assembly, the correct part is # A 7 as shown in step #27

Be sure to trim off the rear 3 bolt heads & the center rear one.
This will allow the Crows II mount to sit flush.

The rear baskets.

Here is the Crows II system .
NO YOU DON'T GET THIS GUN & FEED CHUTE.
The Gun & Feed Chute are from Live Resin

The Mg. & feed chute are from Live Resin.

Part X42 goes here I think, it's not mentioned in the instructions.

Here is the Crows II fitted to the turret top.

You can see why the bolt heads needed to be trimmed.

Thank you Donald as I could not find this DRAGON PE part MA1 on any of Prime Portal or other walk arounds either. I am still looking for a good close up of the MA19(MA20) "fender guideS" as well. Many thanks for your great work. I am trying to keep up!

The next 5 Pics. are a comparison of the Dragon Gun to the Live Resin gun.

The Dragon Gun is rather pathetic The only issue that I had with the Live Resin Gun is the packaging that it came in.
They are 3 to the pack , the molding is EXCELLENT. Their packaging allows the small delicate parts to be broken off, man are they a pain to repair. A thin box would be better rather than a plastic bag sandwiched with 2 cardboard pieces
.
I'll be working on the Tamiya turret next.

Now I start the Tamiya Turret.
My building might be a little slower now, I slipped on the ice yesterday and hit my head on the pavement. My left arm doesn't want to work quite rite now.

Here is the DEF Models detail set I'm using.

The Etch mesh is a lot nicer than the window screen Tamiya gives you with this kit.

The mesh installed in the turret baskets.

I used RB Models antenna mounts, the kit ones were not to bad, but these are nicer & not a lot of money.

Which holes you open depends upon weather you are doing the TUSK I or TUSK II version. I opened 2 of the wrong holes & had to fill them.

That's all for now, I'll have more when I can.

Sorry to ear about this incident.

@ S. Gillespie, here's a good pic of the fender hinge .
I wouldn't worry about MA1, with the turret overhang you can't see it anyway.

Thank you Jim. It makes more sense in your photo that shows the hinge line and pivot point! Thanks- Stuart

The Dragon Gun is rather pathetic

I beg to differ - the Live Resin part is obviously state of the art and way ahead of any M2HB available in plastic (and most aftermarket ones too), but the Dragon one is IMHO quite good for a one piece kit part. Certainly better than most M2HB MGs that were included in kits at the time of M1A1 AIM kit release.

You can see it in this photo (green part at the end of the tan painted intake mesh):

It exists on some/most/all (?) M1A1 AIM tanks. I'm not sure if any M1A2 tanks have it - I know for certain that some don't, but it is possible that some have it too.

I have clearer photos of it in my collection, but I don't have access to it right now.
