First of all, thank you very much for this detailed step-by-step build. And I would say very well done indeed . Perfect quality build, museum quality.

This is on the top of my wish list right now.

2013-15 have been a golden era for us who want something other than nth variant of Tiger, Panther, T37, Sherman, etc...

That is a great video.
Unless its the old film stock, to me it seems that big old steel monster moved a lot faster than I would of expected it to.

Looking at the way the kit is designed I'd say the cargo version is a distinct possibility. Also, by replacing the sidewalls and maybe the roof couldn't the Rochling built (using their own armour plate) version be done?

That is a great video.

After war test by the allies proved that the A7V had on level ground the speed of a trotting horse.

I think build a vehicle with Röchling made armour could be done by carefully filling the gap between the plate and sanding down the rivets. The problem with this could be that you have to carefully choose the version that you will build. Take note that the A7V had both the Sockellafette and the Bocklafette.

I have access to a real MG08, maybe I should check how big the differences between the MG08 and the Maxim 1910 are.

A better choice could be ICM`s MG08/15 if you don`t need a full interior.

Driver's and commanders armoured structure....



A few pins marks to contend with!

Shutters can be positioned fully open, half open or closed....



The PE brackets on for the outside visors are a real PITA to bend to shape as the fold lines aren't that great. I strongly recommend annealing the parts (W7 & W8) prior to bending them.

With the structure in place and the lower armour plates attached temporarily to each bottom end of the hull, the build part of this can be considered complete....

Very nice build Gary, super clean assembly and great progress shots, just what a build/review log of a kit should be. Gotta admit I'm not really a WW1 guy but this kit has me wanting to take the plunge .....

Camo next. Colours probably aren't 100% accurate but doubt there is any actual evidence out there to support what is :?

For the base sand colour used Hobby Color H318 Radome darkened down with Taimya XF57 Buff and XF59 Desert Yellow. The green is Hobby Color H405 Olive Green with the brown being Hobby Color H47 Red Brown. I then misted a light coat of the sand over the top. Looks extremely gaudy at this point





Next step will be some gloss to create a smooth surface to apply the decals. I expect the crosses which go on top of each intake vent will be interesting due to all the holes

Nice build. Would leaving one of the walls off to make it a cutaway be a viable option? It certainly looks that way.

Thanks for giving us a very thorough preview of the A7V. Because they put Krupp in parentheses after the title, I'm guessing that there are other types of A7Vs out there that they will produce kits of--Don't know a whole lot about the A7V so couldn't tell you...

There are several options for Meng. They could make the Röchling armor, made of one-piece plates. Also possible is Wagen 501 "Gretchen" a "female" A7V. And not to forget Wagen 506 "Mephisto" with the Bocklafette gunmount.
BTW Does any of Australian friends live in or near Queenland and can take pics of Wagen 506?

No that you mention it, I think someone (with high-level contacts in the modeling world) told me that the next A7V variant would be the one with the one-piece armor sides. As a matter of fact, I believe that the old Tauro kit represented that variant...

After a little touch up with the AB here and there, I used some Aclad clear lacquer to provide a good base for the decals. Now, being what is essentially a large flat sided box you'd think that the decals would be straight forward. ~Yeah, right

The side panels were fine and the front and rear, though a little trickier due to the rivets, went on ok with plenty of Micro Sol decal setting solution...





The biggest challenge was the decals on the intake vents as anticipated. I essentially applied them to the vents and after some Micro Sol, left then to dry for a while before cutting slits in the decals where the openings are. I then applied copious amounts of decal solution which made the decals conform to the holes perfectly....



Everything has been sealed with a coat of flat clear. Filter is up next....

Well I'm pretty impressed with how the vent decals turned out, me I probably would have chickened out and painted them. The paint looks like it'll be a great base to weather up from .....

Jusging from contemporary pictures, the cooling jackets of the MG08 were either be gun metal or fieldgrey. That`s why I posted the walkaround of the gun here.

The insides of the vents were touched up with some black and white paint...



Filters applied to help tone things down a little and help blend everything together...
