Hey Jerry,

I know you say you see some things wrong and that you are hard on yourself, but you are doing an amazing job bringing life into that kit. When I was going through my stash to give my grandson some more figure kits to work on, I came across this kit. It looks nothing like what you have transformed it into.

Looking forward to seeing it painted up and on a base.
Cheers,
James

Very nice job both on figures and TOW my friend. All looks great as primed. I will not mention on resin figures on your threads anymore. Your skills change plastic to resin.

@Mike-Darn it!!! I knew things were progressing too fast. Now I realize I went the easy way and made these guys into legs. I will have to square that away right quick.---Off I go to accomplish that while singin',"And when I go go downtown,
don't you kick my dog around",

I figured I would post an in progress pic even though the progress has been pretty terrible. I wince when I see this under magnification. But at least there is some color going on now. It has been hard to get motivated I have to admit.
The squad leader. No weathering yet as I haven't decided on the groundwork color.

Still have to add the bino strap.

and in case you missed the female jump school student. Not on her base yet but painted up

I know that roster number looks like hieroglyphics but give me a break. The letters and numbers are about 1/20 of an inch?

Thanks Kurt,
We did call these uniforms the "chocolate chip" pattern BDU so you are right on.

Holy Smoke! they each look great - nice work on the camo - it's pretty crisp on each - not the blur/blend look at all -

Nice!

Very nice figures, Jerry. Camo patterns are excellent. Nice job on the Chocolate Chips.

Back when I was in the Marines, we were on an operation where we were wearing chocolate chips and sometime during it, I had acquired a set of the DCUs when they first came out. I showed up for formation in them which drew our Gunny's attention. He asked me where my chocolate chips were and since we were on per diem and did not necessarily eat at the chowhall all the time, I replied, "Well Gunny, I didn't go to breakfast this morning, but after a while, I got hungry and ate them. They were just like chips ahoys." He laughed and had me do some pushups and bends and thrusts for a while, but the guys all got a laugh out of it and it kept morale high.

Again, great job on the figures.

Cheers,
James

Nick,Jim and Karl, Thanks for looking in and the words of encouragement. It means a lot.
Some of you may note the addition of the infamous parachutists' retention straps in the stowed position on the back of his helmet?
Not to sound morbid but this is the point that someone is really missed when they pass away. Because this is where I would get my initial (not always good) critique from our dear 1stjaeger.
Not to belittle you guys and your comments as they are very warmly received but well... I hope you know what I mean?
Miss you M8,

Hi Jerry - -

You're absolutely right. I had a pretty steady exchange of emails with Romain away from the forum to address the very points you raise - not for paratroopers! but for lots of other things - a direct discussion regarding the success or often failure of whatever it was I was working on -(you might remember, among other things, my "short" entry door on the current build Romain spotted a mile away!)

In the case of your paras - I just don't know enough about the nuance of their gear to offer much in terms of critique - that said, I can tell a good build - be it the TOW operator, paratrooper or whatever - some fantasy robot or warrior etc etc....Now, when you get back to buildings, I think I'll be able to offer more definitive remarks - maybe not about a specific vernacular, but probably about the structure in general.....Let's keep the dialogue alive in any event!

cheers

Nick

Ah...

Parachutist retention straps and KILO troops!

Jerry, you are Mr. Air-borne!

Next up has to be a Black Hat getting ready to gig your KILO troop(-ette!) for spit-shining her Corcorans with a Hershey bar!

"Drop and give me 50 trooper! Before the day's over you're gonna push Ft. Benning all the way to Alabama! Now drop!"

Those were the days, my friend. We could run all day, do push ups until the Black Hats just tired of watching, go spit shine our boots, and then hoist cold ones until it was time to get up and do it all again...

I was feeling a little more proud of my work last night so I took these pics of the gunner and loader. The gunner is further along than the loader with more shading, etc.
But now that I see these guys magnified holy cow. No need to be proud of myself.
Anyway, here we go. All is done with Lifecolor and Vallejo acrylics.

You see here, aside from my crappy painting is the inherent problem with building older figs. Some small details that are sharp on resin figs are soft or non-existent on these guys. So a lot of minor stuff is just painted on and so lacks definition.
Plus,once again,the substandard painting doesn't help.

Thanks Edo,
The hair was first done with 2 part putty as the hornet head was bald. Then I added tiny sections of strands cut from embroidery thread. First you have to straighten the thread out and separate it. Very time consuming.
