I don't know how long you guys have been modeling but I've been at it for over 50 years. Started when Monogram and Revell were about the only choices around. Then along came Tamiya in the mid 70s. Even then armor picking were pretty slim. I for one have no complaints about the kits being released today by any manufacturer. As far as I am concerned the number of kits in terms of variety and variants is enough to keep me very happy for another 50+ years, to say nothing of all the aftermarket options available. As far as the Tamiya Panther, I will probably buy it one day but I'm in no rush. There is already plenty out there already to keep me busy. Besides, it's only a hobby and I'm not about to get my underwear in a knot over something as relatively insignificant as something that is suppose to be a relaxing pastime. Just my two cents.

I agree

I remember those days well, I can remember the first Tamiya kits i got as a 10 year old. The art work on the boxes used to blow me away they were so different, the first 1/35 kits came from them, before that the only armor was monagram 1/32 or all the odd ball scales Revell did, they would scale the kit to fit the box. That and some lesser companies like Lindburg and lifelike or Aurora was all we had. For the time and for the age we were then, the kits then were ok. what we have today is light years ahead of then. The molds were all made by hand of copper, today they use 3d cadd software much like the AutoCadd i use every now as an Architect. As modelers we take alot for granted today with how good the basic quality of the kits we have to choose from. We all have it pretty good now compared to then.

German Tank Engine Maintenance Crew Set can be used since the engine was changed from HL210P30 to HL230P30 in May 1943 (before Kursk).

Look at some the construction blogs and build-ups. This hobby has become anything but a relaxing pastime. This is balls-to-the-walls full blown obsession with all the passion, stubbornness and spirit that implies. (And that can be good or bad depending on your point of view and general state of health. What's bad and dangerous behavior for me might be easily managed, another day in the life, for you.)

I'm kind of hoping Tamiya does the later Panther D/A and the stick-on zimmerit in different patterns. I kind of like that stuff. Makes building 1943-44 German armor less of a chore requiring dedication bordering on obsessive-compulsive disorder and more like that enjoyable hobby I had back in the day.

I bought those nostalgia Monogram re-issues to take trips down those avenues of my youth.

Remember the pictures included in the box of models done by Shep Paine and thinking how in the world does he do it?

I still have a bunch of those Diorama sheets from Shep Paine...Which is amazing as they have been across the ocean to Germany 4 TIMES!

What a great hobby. I pre-ordered my Ausf. D. Can't wait to get it.
