Thanks everyone for the kind comments, they really do motivate you to continue building !

I am rapidly closing in on finishing this model and there is little real construction work left save the gun and the rear hull doors.

I am getting concerned about painting. I would have liked to have painted everything out of the hull but because of the order things go in that proved impossible. I also have no idea about the paint scheme I will eventually choose.

Unfortunately my painting is very underdeveloped. I build at most 3 models a year because it takes so long to build them so I always feel like I am on the verge of mucking it up

Hello everyone,

Just a quick update tonight to show you that I am still working on the self-propelled gun.

As you can see I have been working on the 15cm sIG33/1 and it is almost complete. The gun really is very comprehensive in plastic and does not really need all the metal bits I have added to it. Dragon have done a very good job.

I have also added the wooden block and two metal tracks to one of the fenders.

Apologies for the pictures, I wanted to get an update done tonight, so I had to take them in less than ideal lighting conditions.

As you can see, the gun is complicated enough, without all the photoetch. It took me virtually two days to complete, although it looks OK now.

The next steps are to complete the rear hull doors and a few construction bits that I have missed off. And then, at the weekend, priming and painting.

Thanks for looking,

S

Hi Steve

I'm still amazed by the amount if detail you add to a model - but the results speak for themselves. Excellent model mate - really looking forward to the next update.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.

The plan is to get this completed and then build the Tamyia 1/16th King Tiger full option kit as its been languishing in the box for six years and then finally finish the Tiger one I started back in the happy care free days of 2012.

Hello everyone,

I have finally finished the construction phase of the build, apart from building the tracks.

It took far longer than anticipated because everything took ages to build.

The biggest problem now is handling the model with all the extremely delicate tie downs which you are obliged to glue in place. Priming and painting this model is going to be a real challenge.

I have added more power conduits for instrumentation in the front of the tank, along with the driver's side pillow thing.

The next 2 images are colour shifted so you can get a better look into the tank.

Next steps are priming and painting and helpfully, I have no idea what the paint scheme is going to be.

Thanks for looking,

Egads, that looks frightening. Good luck with the painting; I would knock everything off just by looking at it.

Pretty awesome bit of work, though.

Ok, with construction complete I have primed the model with Tamyia Fine Surface Primer before I spray it black to act as preshade for the dark yellow.

Both the inside and the outside of the tank will be dark yellow with Green and Redbrown camo in what ever modulation I eventually choose

And painted Tamyia XF1 Black

I have tried to keep the black rather uneven

Next time you see it the model will be dark yellow with the bottom of the hull completed

First this is one of the biggest PE projects on any of the major modeling sites I think I've seen, and I'm not sure if I've seen anybody better at it. I don't say that lightly. The bending, building, glueing and soldering is all first class, again this is inspiring work and Steven thanks for sharing with us. I'm sure I speak for others, in that a tutorial would be awesome of your techniques.

You bet Frank. Let me know if there's any at I can help, I know I'm a was across the big pond, but you never know? I still remember you were the first one here to comment on my build log, and helped me when I needed it then... I'm only a PM away still, if it helps.

Anyways, nice seeing you around.

That ended up having a lot of heavy metal brass!! Very delicate, too much for my now ham fisted grip.
Nice to see it nearing completion.

Hello,

Just a quick post tonight to show where I am with the model.

I have painted the model with a coat of Mig RAL7028 dark yellow paiint and I have been successfully or unsuccessfully attempting to weather it.

The major components are nearly all finished and will be added to the tank in the right sequence. I still haven't decided yet on the camo for the tank. I guess I will have to make my mind up pretty soon!

Thanks for looking!

Not even close to the level of detail of the Tiger, but equally as good for what yo have done on this build Steven! Absolutely top notch work man.

Thanks for the comments Dan, Dave and Kevin.

Dave, the Tiger one build had so far taken two years and still not complete. There is probably a good few months left when I restart it after the Grille is completed.

The Tiger by its very nature is a more complex vehicle. Although between you and me, I have left some detail out of the Grille build and not having to wire and super detail the engine is a real time saver !

I just want the grille completed as the Tiger is calling to be completed after spending 3 years packed in a shoebox

Believe me, I can totally relate to a build taking several years to complete...

And you have more detail in the Grille alone, then I've ever put in a vehicle, so you are entitled to an "easier" build, we are all just probably more interested in seeing the Tiger because it's such an iconic piece, and your insane skillz in scratch and modding leave us speechless every time. I completely understand your wanting to take your time with it and to do it justice.

That said, I think this one is turning out fantastically, as is the custom when you post your builds....keep up the stellar job, good sir!
