Looking good Dan. Can you explain how you made your weld beads? They are really nice, and it's a skill I have yet to master.

Hi All,
Weld beads are done with magic sculpt epoxy putty, rolled into thin sausages and pushed against the required area and the textured with some brass tubing filled down. Takes a bit of time but the epoxy putty takes about 4 hours to cure you have plenty of time.
Rear engine deck, now I'm not 100% sure on its construction and I was hoping that someone might give an answer on if its cast or rolled steel?
A small update. been sorting the main gun. driver lowered a touch and added the nice resin bits from DEF Resin. Just need to add the springs to the thermal cover clamps.

More later folks

Dan, amazing work your M60A3. After having a look at PRIME PORTAL, it is a cast eninge deck, but due to a lot of paint one can't see it directly.

Having looked at an M60 back deck while standing on it, I can tell you that it is rolled and welded. Not cast.
Picture to follow after I've had my coffee.

My bad...should never try to post before coffee. Flat parts are rolled, sides are cast, but the texture is not very rough.

One other thing you could do is remove that lip around the depression for the barrel lock. Tamiya and the Academy clone have this, but it should be just a weld bead around the depression:

Looking good so far!

Thanks for that picture Jim, another area that I overlooked, I did take a chunk out of the kit part when removing the old barrel lock, I was going to reinstate the damaged area but now I can just remove, reprofile and add the welds.

Being an old M60A1/A3 tank commander, you're spot on so far!!
Btw, where did you get the three driver's periscope/vision blocks from?? That's my second main issue with the Tamiya's kit. All three scopes where always up at all times... Hard enough driving button-up with all three scopes, let alone one!! Plus, mud, rain and snow always seemed to find a way in blocking up any clear vision as well.
Also, like the super detailing on the cupola!!
My main issue with the Tamiya kit is that the suspension system rides slighlty too high.

Thank you Ted,
The scopes are part of the Legend detailing set for the Tamiya Kit which I think is a must if you are going to do it any justice.

Its a comprehensive set that covers most of the problem areas of the kit.

Very impressive work so far. Really enjoy watching your progress.
I have a couple of questions:
- Why did you leave the plastic manlet instead of using the one fron Legend?
- Does the upgrade set include any details for the hull? I am interested if it includes any kind of transmission covers, suspension parts and any kind of fender brackets.
Keep up the good work and the photos coming

Hi Nikos,
I started this kit a few years ago and never really did anything serious with it, I suppose I lost interest, over that time the plastic has become really brittle and it shatters very easy, looking at the resin gun mantlet I decided not to remove the kit parts as it might of ruined the whole turret. Also they are not that much better than the Tamiya parts so no real benefit in replacing. If I had a new untouched kit then I might of replaced them but I started mine before I bought the legend set.
No suspension parts are included which is the only minus side to the Legend set but you do get all the fender support iron work and brackets, some of which I've added already.
I like the legend set and it's a massive improvement on the kit parts, now the AFV Club kit is out the Tamiya kits are now I suppose obsolete, I didn't want to waist the kit and all the aftermarket sets that I acquired over the years.
Regards
Dan
