Just a few bits done today.

Rear engine door handles and chains added.

The old searchlight mount reworked.

drivers hatch rain strip added.

Some clamps added to the crew heater exhaust.

And the travel lock area has had some magic sculpt added to blend it in.

Cheers

Dan

Soldered up the headlight guards, quite fiddly
to get right as it has some complex curves, one is finished and glued to the hull.

Again from the Legends set.

You may want to check your references on the antennae mounts. The AM mounts you have are not the same as used on U.S. Military vehicles. Nice job so far and I agree that I can't wait to see it in paint!!

My Favorite Tank. I went from driver to gunner to tank commander on these before I was on the M1A1. Also started on the M60A1.

Thank you very much guys on the kind words,

As for the antenna base, I think the AM one I have is for a more modern fit so they wont be used on this build, I'll have to scratch up something that's more akin to the real deal.

So guys anyone have any pictures of the BFA attachment for the commanders 50 cal. I have a photo of the BFA and I know how it fits but I cannot find any decent photo's of it on the M60. I just want to see the detail just before it enters the canvas cover on the cupola so I can get distances just right.

Cheers

Both headlight guards are now done.

And the modified rear deck. Weld beads to be added from the Archer decal set later.

A tiny bit more work done,

The rail that sits on the top of the turret, I think to stop the commanders .50 from brassing up the IR search light when fitted. I decided to remake this item as the kit part is a bit basic.

So the kit part.

My part, made from brass wire and some scrap PE parts filed and soldered into place.

The base will be a real pig to make but I'll give it a go.

Head lights are fitted to the headlight units, 3mm MV lens does the job.

Smoke grenade boxes added.

Front mud guards going on.

Cheers

Thanks guys,

Still busy with this build just have not had the time lately
to update the blog.

But here we are, I've decided to do a M60 out in the field on exercise so a BFA for the .50 was in order. I used the .50 from the academy M113 as one gun has the BFA barrel. Slight mod to make it fit the M85 on the cupola.
I used the 0.3 carbon rod for the supports, these need trimming down one the glue is dry.

Headlights added

And now working on the other fender supports, soldering where I can.

Enjoy

Turning into a masterpiece. If I recall correctly, one of the 2 fuel caps has to go. I think it is the left one, but wait for the experts to tell.

Thank you chaps for the kind words.

So today I've been working on the antenna base, trying to get the spring loaded base unit to look right, I want to tie it back to the turret top as seen in many photo's/

First attempt, not good !

Final attempt and better I think?

It's made from micro steel tubing, bent slightly, I added a metal foil fillet to add the bulge and then wrapped 0.2mm lead wire to form the spring. Also used a carbon fibre antenna rod from Accurate Armour.

I love your use of the Blank Field Adaptor on the Commander's 50 cal.

I remember we were doing a WWII reenactment program at Fort McPherson in Atlanta. We had gotten our hands on some really hot load blank 50 cal. rounds. We had used them the day before without any difficulty but I guess by the second day the BFA had had enough. The rear casting on the BFA cracked and the entire assembly flew off the gun barrel and landed about 40 feet in front of the Sherman.

The gods of war must have smiled at us that day. Ground troops had been warned never to operate close to the front of the tanks and everyone was minding their manners that day. No one was in the area to get hurt by the flying steel!

Very nice build, excellent photos and some nice scratch building too. The two lifting rings(?) just above the main gun mantlet, you have not opened them up. Are they supposed to be that way or is that the way they are on the full scale version?

I "think" there are pockets in the mantlet cover for the lifting rings. I'm working on an M-48 and it has the same mantlet. Pictures show the rings covered.

Very true, the mantlet cover has pockets for the lifting rings to sit inside so it is an effective weather seal.

A small update today chaps, the brackets for the smoke grenade
dischargers are soldered up now, I have got one fitted and the welds added. I still have to fabricate the armoured cable housing and add the cables yet.

Also made a start on the suspension details, filled the mounting holes for the dampers and I'll also make a start on the bump stops.

Hopefully get the top and bottom hull joined soon and on the running gear.

Cheers

that bracket should be in the folded down. it was used on the A1's to keep the TC from shooting out the searchlight. The A3 uses a TTS: tank, thermal sight. If left on to long, the TTS will run the tank's batteries down real quick!

A long overdue update,

Been working on a few things mainly the running gear.
The kit tracks are just place keepers until I decide on which AM tracks to use, the Bronco tracks are nice but don't fit the sprockets at all, I have the Fruil metal tracks but the tension might be a problem and I have the AFV club tracks.

Some cross kitting of Sprockets might be in order :-)

So on to the pictures, the road wheels are not glued yet so look a bit wobbly.

Enjoy

Dan
