This was a Christmas gift from Da Wifey. Fit and finish so far has been good. The mantlet, idlers and drive wheels have excellent casting textures. Upper and lower hull fit is very good.
Dry fitting major components
Base-coated with Tamiya Black Green.
BTW, the news headline reads: "Hon, let's take a bath together." We're supposed to be having a water supply crisis. Methinks we will be having a population explosion again.
First zimm job. Made with Milliput Superfine. Need suggestions please. Retain or redo?
Thanks guys!

Looks good so far....as for the zimmerit I'd make it thinner if you could and try to make your lines a little more regular if you can....good job

Looked very promising, Lord Jeep. I agree with Bear Dude, the zimmer can be slightly thinner, and need to be regular, them Krauts actually used little stamp to stamp out the waffle patternsjust get your self a square brass tube, and use the end to press on them.
Very genious way to make the zimmer on a piece of tape (?) there should make application much more easier. Good work. Home brew kavalier set.
PS. the water thing, leave my honey alone!!!! #:-)

Thanks guys!
This is the first time I tried milliput and I didn't know what to expect. I can make the next batch thinner though. Now I know it sticks and it works

jeep Dude,
That Jagdpanther looks very cool, nice and clean i don't se any glue marks or finger prints.
i wuld just say that the pattern on the zimmer could be a little more regular as the others have said. I don't know anything bout the thickness.
Can't wait to see it finished.

Thanks Andy dude! The fingerprints are there you just can't see them
The instructions I'm following say that the milliput should be as thin as paper so that it's translucent. This batch wasn't that thin. Next time I'll try a bigger and heavier rolling pin

Looked much better now. Jeep. thin, and more uniformed. If you can find a square tube that is like 3mm x 3mm, that be even better, you can achieve eve better uniformed squares.

Hi Jeep,
Nice build so far. The new zimm pattern looks way better and similar to my reference material. The Jagdpanther is one of my favourite wermacht tank destroyers. Luckily, dragon came out with their 1/72 kit and I bought a couple for my future build. Hey, if you still want some reference materials. I can bring some on Sunday during the emergency meeting.
Also, is that a leftover wedding give-away I see in the top left-hand corner? LOL!

Thanks Dave! Will try to make do with two parallel cutter blades and see if they work
Thanks for the offer Wanze! Can't promise to make it this Sunday but I'll most likely go to the Feb 15 meeting. Do you have camo patterns for the early zimmed jagdpanther? This is my favorite cat too. Sleek and deadly
Yeah that's a wedding giveaway. It was supposed to be given to one of the sponsors but since there were extras we kept them as souvenirs hehe :-)

Looks good so far. I like your use of Tamiya black-green for a primer, I will keep that one in mind. Ever consider using the Cavalier Zimmerit for the Early Jagdpanther ? Just a thought.
Can't wait to see more pics !!
Cheers !

Thanks SR! I actually have more time to model now especially because I don't have to hijack the dining table anymore
Thanks Robert! The choice of Black Green was random actually. I was looking for a dark color that I won't be using in the near future. I had two bottles of unopened Black Green so the choice was made Cavalier zimmerit is out of my reach for now so I opted for the home-made zimm.

Being just me, when I look at the pics the thing that attracts most of my attention is the figure (notice that I am a figure modeller). I love the pose of that figure and I would like to see it painted soon The quality of the work of that figure (in this tank particularly) will define the quality of your overall work as it is the center of attention for the eye.

The commander figure is from the Tristar Panzer Crew 1. This will be my first serious attempt at painting figures and I hope I'll do justice to it. Figures add a sense of the size of these tanks and I aim to include at least one figure in all my future AFV projects

Now that would be better. Goodluck in working with figs. As with myself, I'm doing them to make the vehicle and scenario alive.

only comment.....I have not seen zimm that random. I read some where that it (zimm) was applied in the factory. if field applied, it looks great!

Tracks done. Wheels attached with Elmer's glue so they can be removed for painting and weathering. The wheels have been prepainted to keep the tracks from sticking to them. Took me less than an hour to assemble each set spread out over two days so the tracks have time to firm up. Around 86 links per set.

Nice tip Peter! Problem is I've already zimmed 70% of the tank. Will try this one out on the next one
I rolled out the putty and applied it directly to the hull surfaces. Getting straight even lines using this method is a bit tedious because of all the lumps and bumps that get in the way. I'll just say that the zimm was field applied hehe

4 Saturday afternoons' worth of work:
Tracks off and basecoated.
Some pics of the zimm. Back zimm not done yet. I'm very tempted to leave it as is.
The Gap. What part closes The Gap? Did I miss something in the instructions?

Hi Jeep,
Nice, very nice and beautiful zimm. Maybe you could put some chipping on the zimm (maybe there are but just was not shown). Just an advice if ever you chipped a zimm, the color should either be red oxide (red-brown for tamiya paint, but lighter in shade) or metallic. Once the zimm is chipped, it will carry the primer with it or leave some...just an additional input. Overall, it is really very good. I think I'll also get myself one of those kit, BTW does it come with indy-tracks?
I also noticed that gap in my panther and not sure if it should be plugged or just leave it as is.

Thanks warthog! How goes your Panther?
I haven't chipped it that much yet. I had to eliminate a lot of fingerprints from edges and corners and if zimm dropped off from that area I didn't bother putting them back. Will definitely add some red oxide primer to the chips to add a bit of interest from the plain Dunkelgelb.
The kit came with indy links. There are some mismolded links but you get enough to build the two sets with some links to spare for the sides. Very highly recommended aside from The Gap.
