Nice job Al I would just tone down the glossy look of the dust cover of the turret.

Thanks, for the compliment, and the suggestion. Funny how 'Flat' paints can dry glossy sometimes. Don't know the reason why it happens. A little Dullcoat should solve the problem.

I wanted to place something in the stowage rack at the rear of the hull. Nothing in resin that I had looked good, so I went "Old School" and made a 'tarp' from tissue paper.
I think it fits the bill quite nicely. The parts that I ordered from TamiyaUSA arrived yesterday. The figure is assembled and I'll get him painted ASAP. But now I have a problem, What to do with all of the other parts that came along with him, including an upper hull and parts of the turret. The wheels started turning and I was ready to go down the Sci-fi rabbit hole. But, at the library where our club meets, one of the librarians knows someone who uses parts we've given her to send to him to make interesting 'sculptures'. So I think that I'll be passing these along to her.

Thanks Olivier, High praise indeed. Thanks also for your help and advice. As for those Takom kits, I'll take it under advisement. Which is a phrase meaning, "It ain't going to happen anytime soon". Though, the one with the SS-11's.....

File this image under, "Wish I'd seen it sooner", as in before I started this build.
Found this interesting photo last night while searching through images. Only AMX that I've seen mounting a .50 cal MG on the turret. Would love to know more about it, or where this was taken. Maybe Olivier can shed some light on it.

Amazing what you find out after the fact, or in this case, build. Found a photo of "Duroc".
The picture shows some sort of light mounted in front of the commander's hatch and that it was painted a non-standard color. Oh, well. Not going to repaint the model, but might add the light.

concerning the first picture, it has been taken in Algeria and to my knowledge only one regiment had modified their tanks with a turret mounted 0.50 MG.
The second picture shows a tank stationed in Berlin in service with the 11 regiment de chasseurs. All the French vehicles deployed there were painted with a paint provided by the German government hence the different color from the standard French camo.

Mounting additional MG's to vehicles is typical for IDF. Based on the scenery and the dusty look of the tank, I'd say that's an AMX-13 in Israeli service. The M151 (?) jeeps in the background also speaks for this.

Thanks for the info, Olivier. I figured if anyone knew, it would be you. So, the first pic is of a tank in French service, just stationed in Algeria? I thought it might have belonged to another country that employed the tank.

You could have been right but I can tell this picture is from a French unit during the Algerian conflict. Algeria can be dusty too ;-)

Hello Ludwig, I think that the tank is too dark a color to be Israeli. Their AMX's typically mounted a .30 cal. MG.
If I understood Olivier's response correctly, it's a French vehicle belonging to an outfit stationed in Algeria.

I can't reveal the country (or operation) in Africa, of which I did personally see an AMX 13 with a .50 cal mounted on the turret. I can, however, say it was in the early 80's when witnessed. How the .50 cal was affixed, I'm not certain of it's mounting configuration, but I'm almost certain it took a back shop modification to make it work properly. Hope this helps a bit in authenticating the use of secondary weaponry. Seems Oliver and I have some common ground travelled (literally) when speaking of African conflicts of the late 70's to early 80's, no matter who the belligerent parties were. Mostly ties to the 2nd ReP of the FFL over that time span.

On a side note, the acronym STAT that appears in the Algeria picture posted by Olivier means " Section Technique de l’Armée de Terre" (Technical Branch of the Land Army). It manages the French armament programs from the design of equipments and their technical and operational tests to their withdrawal from service.
