Hi All,
Just in case sombebody is not aware, the article is live now:
http://armorama.kitmaker.net/review/12605
I have a moving to deal with in the coming weeks so I won't start the painting, but I want to do some minore updates before that anyway.
I was not too happy with my results on the tracks, so I have ordered a MasterClub metal set. If my application was been a bit better I would have kept the Takom tracks though.
Regards,
Adam

Does anyone have the new and improved/correct T54B hull?
My hull looks like your's,

Also news of today that Takom is releasing a corrected T-54B lower hull as currently the kit has the T-55 one which is not correct since the two are not the same. They promise replacement to every buyer, so hats off to Takom! To me it’s too late already...
Cheers,
Adam

I got my kits about 2 months ago & they also have only the original T55 hull & I haven't heard of / had any updates from the store I brought them from saying they now had the new replacement hulls shipped to them.

Hi,
I have not tried myself as the kit is built already, but I see it is advertised with retooled hull tub on Luckymodel:

So I received my Takom T-54B today (Sprue Brothers deal of the day - $29.95!). On the box it says 'Re-tooled lower hull" which it definitely has. It also has what appear to be completely new spider web and starfish wheels with separate rubber tires that don't have the extra steel rim as noted in the early part of this thread. Kudos to Takom for fixing those issues.
I'm stoked to get started on this kit!

In-box photos below, will comment on details while building.
Molding quality is pretty good and there is a good number of T-55 parts for the spares box/conversions.
Unfortunately two of the fuel lines snapped during shipping, and some of the track links are also damaged (193 are provided, 184 are needed).
Hi JimboHUN, Thanks for the kit parts break down.
What are the AA MGs for the top of the turret called and what caliber? Is anyone making decent brass or resin kits/sets of these?
Thanks.

Hi KoSpureOne,
The AA mg's are DSHK 12.7mm, from memory I believe the kit come's with both a Russian & Chinese license built version.
RB barrels do brass barrel replacements & tank do a resin version of the gun
Mike

Read above. Apparently they haven't updated the wheels and rubber tires in the T-54/55 kits. They have totally new starfish wheels in the Type 69 (rubber tires molded in place with the wheels), but they were not in my recent T-54B purchase.

Hi Folks,
Finally I have had some time to work on this one as well.
I replaced the AA MG mounting brackets with PE, and the cover on the exhaust was scratch built from PE and tin foil as the original one is way too thick.
I have primed the model with Vallejo's black primer, this was my first attempt with Vallejo and so far I am happy. As an experiment I decided a while ago to use only Vallejo products for this project...will see as normally I am struggling with vinyl acrylics.
The photo quality is not the best I am sorry, it is too dark here already and I have one lamp only.
Cheers,
Adam

Nice work Adam, I have not used acrylic primer before either, I am curious to see what you think. On another note, with the black primer it reminds me of this T-55 in Libya:

Just noticed that these T-54B have the L-2 Luna mounted on the mantlet but also the later mounts on the turret front right?

Hi,
This one is finally done...
Not my best one, the surface in the end was too matt for the oils, so I did chipping and dry prigments only.
I have learnt a lot with this one and the next will be better I hope.
I have made the following replacements:
- tracks: MasterClub metal set
- AA machine gun: Tamiya
- AA travel lock on the back of the turret: from Eduard's T-55 PE set
- headlights' cage: wire
