Thank you Dennis,

I've managed to get the base cam colours down for the Ambush scheme, still loads of tweaking to do.

So guys it's been a while since my last update,
blimey where do I begin, Heart surgery first done and out of the way, I then stripped the JT of all paint. ruined most of the PE and basically started again.

I just wasn't happy with the cam so I decided to do Dark Yellow version.

I'll skip all the boring photos and take you to where I'm at now.

Still a fair way off from the finishing line but I'm getting close now.

G'day Dan

Very interesting and great work, particularly as I'm building the same kit (look on the Tank Hunters campaign).

Depending on when your JT entered service, you might like to check references regarding jack blocks and jacks, as I think you will find most, particularly late JTs, didn't have either, or even the brackets.

Cheers Rob,

I didn't know that buddy so thanks for the info, I'm not building any particular vehicle so I'll probably go ahead and fit the jack block to my build.

I just popped over and took a quick peak at your build, coming along nicely indeed fella, I was unlucky enough to spend some time at Iserlohn during my time in the Army, during the Cold War period it was a British military hospital. I broke my leg on exercise and spent 4 days at the BMH

One pointer for your build buddy , you are aware that kit gun barrel is in recoil and to short? Dragon measured up the JT in the USA which had the gun spiked my the crew, they drained out all the oil from the recuperators and fired it thus rendering useless.

I used a barrel from Armourscale which correct in length and sits right in the mantlet.

Hi, Dan!

VERY NICE!!!

Happy to see that you didn't paint your towing cables and tools in the way that so many other modellers do- NO warm, sexy, multi-toned Browns with varnished handles on your tools, as if they were lovingly crafted overnight by the magical Teutonic elves working in Opa's Moebelgeschaeft, and your cables are over-sprayed in the same Dunkelgelb as the rest of the vehicle! Quite right! I also like the fact that you didn't "over-weather" your model, either...

I'm a firm believer in "less is more"...

Very nicely done, and a welcome change from the run-of-the-mill AFV that looks like something that's been parachuted into a hundred-foot-deep mud bog, and overloaded with enough rust on it to convey the impression that it's been pickled in a salt water brine for a hundred years!!!

I LIKE it!!!

Whilst waiting for the pigments to dry
I've painted up the MG-42,

The ammo belt is a WIP to get it hanging right.

G'day Dan

Yes, I was aware of the problem with earlier model kits of the JT, particularly Tamiya's, but I think you'll find that DML have fixed the problem for this kit. I checked drawings, and the length of the barrel after the mantlet should be 108mm, and it is precisely that.

Just a by-the-by - the crews did not like the JT. The barrel was eight metres long, and if the vehicle was driven without the barrel locked in place, the optics and barrel were very soon out of alignment. The solution, of course, was to use the barrel lock while travelling, but it could only be released from outside the vehicle! Bit inconvenient when people are shooting at you!

Rob

HI Rob

It was a beast of a wagon that's for sure, I did read about the gun and cross country fighting, poor crewman who had to unlatch the gun

So I had to test fit one track just to see.

top tip, mask the wheel axels before paint, other wise they are a real pain to fit

Tonight's work on the track guards,

More paint work and weathering done, these items will be last to be fixed to the hull. I've added the bolt heads to the missing sections on the hull.

Excuse the wooden stick

G'day Dan

Yeah, I knew about the wheels problem - same applies to Tigers, King Tigers and Panthers. That's why I have a set of short pieces of plastic tube which I slip over the axles before painting (and a rat tail file to make the holes in the wheels bigger when required).

Any attempt to force the wheels usually breaks the axle concerned!
