Wow, really nice finish, David! Like the way the lights stand out on the green. Will you add more weathering to it?

Mr. K: Tamiya acrylics, it is a mix: 4x XF-67 (NATO green) : 1x XF-10 (Flat brown).

Cristian: More weathering is to come: tires, stripped paint on the truck bed and some dust and dirt. This only has a black/brown wash applied and some minor surface rust on the chassis (which is not really visible on the picture).

I switched gears this weekend and made some progress on the D-30. Used a lot of PE parts from Eduard on the SKIF kit. Almost the same number of PEs as plastic ones ;-)



I know that the legs should be extended all the way back, this position was used for airbrushing and picture taking ;-) The howitzer will be displayed in a "packed" state.

Hey folks, the Dragon Ketten and gun bombed. So, I've cracked open this. Will you allow this kit?

Being unemployed allows for more time I guess. I'm surprised at how quick I'm building this. There are plenty of fiddly bits and the instructions can be confusing, but it goes together pretty well.

Hashing out paint right now. Dragon's instructions call for RLM 62 Green. Way too light. So, I'm playing with Tamiya OD and JA green.

Not really making much progress here. Looking to see if anyone has a solution to making these trailer tires look like something. Seem impervious to all primers and paints.

Clean up the trailer tires and then use pastels to give em that "used" look. Works for me. Can't treat em like hard plastic.



Tractor/Trailer combo is looking real good! You're making me want to build one of my own.

Great details but be forewarned the fit starting forward of the firewall is a pig. Put it aside for a month out of frustration and just getting back to it.

Looks quite big, although not as big as a Ratte [Ahem]...

It's actually quite small and easily displayed. Dragon did make an error in its design: the "rear" truck (on the left) will not turn completely and the cannon barrel will not depress and "lock" in place because the barrel assembly is too long. Too long, because Dragon did not account for the fact that the barrel/breech will hydraulically move to the rear for transport. Oh well, still a neat little model.

Hi, all! I got some primer down on some of the subassemblies and did the wood grain on the floor of the recovery trailer:


My original plan had been to paint the base color over everything and then use the hairspray technique to reveal much of the underlying wood; however, the instructions say to do the whole floor as bare wood. What do you guys think?

I like the bare wood. These guys didn't have time to paint everything!

Thanks, Clayton. Guess I'm not sure how it came from the factory, but I'm leaning more toward leaving the floor unpainted.

I too vote for the bare flooring. Even if they painted the entire vehicle coming out of the assembly shop this trailer was used for aircraft movement and salvage. The decking would therefore quickly get scratched up and the wood would weather.

I suspect the trailer was painted first to cover all the metal parts and then the wood decking added.
