Hi folks,
I hope to be sharing some build photos on here in the not too distant future. I currently have a number of kits on the go at various stages of completion and sometimes struggle to decide which to work on. It depends whether I want to be doing straight-forward assembly, detailing maybe with photo-etch & resin, first stage painting or weathering etc. From what I've read
here and elsewhere on the web I gather other modelers have sizeable stashes of kits. Thought I'd take a moment to share details of my stash and maybe see what other people have. If anyone is building any of these or fancies a group build please let me know. Anyway, here goes...
1. Tamiya Panzer III Ausf N (basic hull started) to be finished with whitewash over grey with turret hatches open showing some interior detail. Hopefully manned with Miniart's winter tank crew.
2. Dragon 3-in-1 Panzer IV (unstarted) to be finished as DAK.
3. Tamiya Tiger 1 mid-production using CMK fighting compartment and turret interior, Tamiya engine maintenance add-on and Eduard Big-Ed PE. Not sure on finish yet but may use Tamiya's Panzer crew at rest.
4. Cybermodel Jagdpanzer IV A-0. Finished in dark yellow overall, nearly complete and part way through weathering etc.
5. Tamiya M4A3 Sherman - largely constructed, needs details completing (PE) to be finished in whitewashed winter camo.
6. Academy M4A2 USMC Sherman (not started).
7. Dragon Bodo Spranz stug III Ausf.G (unstarted).
8. Tasca Sherman Firefly 1c composite hull (unstarted). Intention being to complete this in diorama setting with british motorcycle and British infantry as depicted in a photo seen in an old motorcycling magazine.
9. Tamiya Panther Ausf.G early. with tamiya separate link tracks. Largely completed and painted - needs weathering etc.
10. Tamiya King Tiger Henschel Turret. (unstarted) may use Dragon Ardennes tank riders
11. Riich Models Universal Carrier Mark 2. (unstarted)
12. Dragon M3 75mm Gun Motor Carriage (unstarted)
13. Tamiya Challenger 2 Desertised. Hull partly constructed (my first foray into modern armour, I was attracted by the appearance of the ERA skirts etc.)
14. Meng M3A3 Bradley with additional interior kit. Just started
15. Academy M1A2 Abrams V2/Tusk/Tusk2. basic hull assembled just to see how it compares with Challenger.

From memory, I think that's it; plenty to keep me busy for the next couple of years I think. If anyone wants to see pics or has any comments on any of these kits please feel free to ask or comment. Come on guys, what's the state of your stashes?

That's a quite small stash you have Paul but then again I do build aircraft, ships, sci-fi, autos, armour and figures.
The only thing I have from your list is the Chally 2, oh they are not ERA on the sides they are passive Chobham armour modules. The Chally 2 is a long way down my build list as I have all things Russian/Soviet on the bench at the moment - 1/35 T-70M, T-34/57, IS-2, SU-152 and T-62 Mod 62 w/ERA, plus a Kirov class Nuclear powered Battlecruiser and Slava class Guided missile cruiser in 1/350.

I will be taking part in the Artillery Campaign when it starts in February (I think) and you guessed it something Russian, hopefully a TOS-1.

Kirov, with 6inch rule at the bottom for size.

I wouldn't call 13 kits a stash.

Well like many who have years put in, my stash requires me to be able to live until I am 300!

If hazy memory serves I have something like 600 kits and about 2000 figures. Currently the better half has informed me I should fix and refurbish the kits I have that either need repair or are partially built. My "garage" is as follows:

- 7TP Beutepanzer to be weathered and some small details to be added
- BT7 Beutepanzer to be weathered
- Nashorn night fighter "what if" to have tracks and details added
- Various 1/32 Airfix and Historex figures to be refurbished (gift from the mother in law!)
- 1/25 Mad Max police car- needs engine
- 1/25 GMC Snowplow - requires completion
- 1/25 Duster Funny Car - requires small additions
- Tamiya Stug IV needs completion
- Tamiya SAS jeep needs completion
- Tamiya SdKfz 222 & 223 to be repaired
- Italeri Panzer IV to be repainted
- Dragon Kettenrad to be completed
- ICM 45mm Soviet AT gun x 2 to be painted
- Tamiya 37mm AT gun to be painted
- Tamiya T-34/76 (r) "Marder" what-if to be finished
- Dragon/Alan BA-20 armoured car (SS version) to be touched up
After that I may start the Bronco A13 Beutepanzer w/ UE trailer....it looks pretty cool.

Your stash may not be big but it looks like there's some nice kits in there! Take my advice - the "best" kit on today's market is tomorrow's "dog" so unless you REALLY want something don't build up a ridiculous stash!!

I also have one of those "that's not really a stash" small stashes. But I've only been modelling for about 8 months. Everything here in 1/48:

Tamiya:
Crusader III (in progress)
Crusader I/II
M48 Patton
Firefly
Cromwell x 2 - one should eventually be mated with a resin conversion kit to make a Charioteer
Matilda
Hetzer
Panther G - I want to make this one as Cuckoo, the captured German panther
Tiger I (Africa)
Puma
Pz 38t

Frog/Fuman (Bandai)
Valentine - the kit is a II, but I also got a resin Mk XI turret. Will require a bunch of scratch building improvements.

Kengi:
Cruiser Mk IVa (resin)

Just because he doesn't have 500 kits, doesn't mean that he doesn't have a "stash".

Keeping your "stash" rather small is very smart. Most people have enough kits for a few lifetimes, especially the way some people build. 2-3 kits per year. I probably have somewhere around 30 kits in my "stash".

Dragon Abrams SEP V2
Dragon Abrams AIM
Trumpeter M1117
Tamiya M2A2 Bradley
Italeri M109A6
Italeri M923A1
2 - Dragon Hummels
2 - Dragon StuG IIIs
2 - Dragon Pz. IIIs
Dragon King Tiger
Dragon Tiger 1 Late
Tamiya Tiger 1 early
MENG Cougar
Eduard BF109
Dragon 10.5cm leFH18
Trumpeter flakpanzer ostwind
Dragon Flak 88
Tamiya jagdpanzer Lang
Trumpeter 3.7cm Flak 37
Dragon Sdkfz 7 Flak 38
Dragon Panther G
Takom Chieftain
MENG T-72B3
HB M1070/1000
Tamiya Nashorn (WIP)
AFV Club Stryker (WIP)
Tamiya M4A3E8 (WIP)
AFV Club Pak 43/41
Zvezda Terminator
Dragon Jagdpanther
Rye Field M1A1 Abrams (WIP)
Tamiya M1A2 TUSK II (WIP)

I hope to get a couple more for Christmas.

Wow. Some of you guys put me to shame by the small stashes you have. Of course mine is nothing compared to what I have seen posted on Face Book recently (a whole room full). I never bothered to take stock until I saw this post. I just counted 220 kits of 1/35 tanks, 1/48 scale airplanes, and sci fi kits, plus 2 cars.

I have 6 resin conversion and full resin kits that I regretted buying because the subjects are now available in plastic (Academy Magachs and Meng Merkavas).

Thanks for the comments guys. I scared myself when I worked out how much this lot cost me. Obviously not as much as some have spent but not an insubstantial amount - it would pay for a holiday! I also have a wishlist, some of which are contained in the lists above. As I generally only get to model for about one or possibly two evenings a week I've got enough to keep me going for a while. I tend to be a bit selective about what I buy now and generally read reviews after seeing a kit I like the look of. Admittedly I probably need to be thinking of something Russian, T-34 or KV-1? Could go on but work calls.

I'll chime in just to put things into perspective

Something like 200+ kits finished and stored in display cabinets.
Hang on now: More than 10 times as many unbuilt, some started a little but raising a family and renovating the apartment has taken some time.
Total count is 2870, mostly 1:35 but there are some 1:72 helicopters, submarines and various torpedoboats.

Call it crazy if you like, my wife does

My stash

Zero nada nothing.
Years ago i sold everything just to start fresh.
Now i build one kit at a time, and when done i look around for something new to start. Either aircraft or armor.

Keep the comments coming guys. If I had that many kits (see pics above) I'm sure I'd spend more time trying to decide what to build rather than actually building! As it is I'm thinking of setting up a system where I dedicate a particular day to a particular model that's partly done and if I get the opportunity on that day that is the kit I work on. Only once I've finished one would I start another.

I love your mancave Rob, particularly the footwarmer. I notice some Frog & Matchbox kits there - WOW! A blast from the past or what?

Guardian of the office to ensure a cat free environment

I need one of those! I am constantly picking cat hair out of my glue and paint and I don't have the heart to shoo 'em out! (They look so forlorn and wronged...)

P.S. Thanks guys for making my stash look quite reasonable!

There is another rule though, it's about the urgent need for stash compression. When I run out of space I try to find two models that are related somehow (like two Pz IV's). Then it's only a matter of assembling the larger parts so that the bulk of the not-yet-assembled-parts is reduced to maybe a third or a quarter of the original volume. WHen this has been done for both kits they will both fit comfortably into one of the boxes
Now there is suddenly space for a new kit in the stash, it's like magic

I never kept a stash, maybe a couple of kits, or if I went to a show up to a half dozen. That way I could always be building what interested me at the time. Seems a couple of recent shows and I'm up to eight which is my all-time high, but they all interest me, so it's cool.

***to save space what I do is compress two or three kits into one box, making sure they are unrelated to avoid confusion ie: putting a Gundam kit and a Kubelwagen kit into my Famo box; etc That being said I store about a hundred kits at home and the rest are in an outside storage place. It is my hope that the bigger the stash, somehow the longer you live....ha ha!

Stash? … oh, did you mean the "Roach Motel?" ... kits check in but, they don't check out! 📦

The original plan was to get back to building models again, however, the inter-web keeps pulling me in ... as I search more, I want more ... kits, aftermarket, figures, diorama supplies, tools!!! My wallet was being drained right along with my will to build. 💸 💤

Currently, I’m under a self-imposed spending freeze and my stash has been hovering somewhere around twenty-ish kits. Been trying to maintain some semblance of balance — build a kit, buy a kit — or two. Hehe! 😇
