Very cool releases, but I am wondering what is with the advertisements I am seeing that the M47 E/M is going to be an exclusive release by Ammo by Mig? Is that going to be some sort of special release?? Or does Ammo have the exclusive distribution rights to that kit.

Not much interest in the base M47 since the Italerie kit is good and cheap.
But the M47E/M could be interesting. Some of the late Variants of that one (M47E2, Sabalan) sound interesting

Start ordering those paints/decals/oils/Friul tracks, and PE, which you know will follow soon after the release...and start downloading those photos (tons of them out there)...'cause you got plenty of building to do when these 2 beauties show up in the stash:
M47 Patton operators
Spain – 22 M47ER3 ARV based on M47 hulls modernized in 1992 thru 1994. Currently used as recovery vehicles in artillery and infantry units.
Iran
Austria - 153 M47s in active service from 1957 till 1982. Since 1972, turrets of retired M47 tanks were fixed in Austrian bunker systems.
Belgium – One of the surviving examples is visible in the Brussels Military Museum
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Croatia – Over 20 during the Croatian War of Independence, 16 units remained in service by 1996 but were soon retired.
Cyprus – One captured vehicle.
France – 856 (1954–1970)
Greece – 396 pieces in total, of which 391 were scrapped between 1992 and 1995.
Iraq – Captured from Iran. All destroyed or scrapped.
Italy
Jordan
Republic of Korea – Acquired a total of 531 vehicles—463 for the army between 1956 and 1959, and 68 for the marine corps between 1963 and 1964—mainly from the USFK. Around three-quarters of the M47s replaced their 90mm M36 guns with the 90mm M41 guns that became available when their M48s upgraded their guns from 90mm M41 to 105mm M68. The last vehicle was out of service in 2007.
Netherlands
Pakistan – Retired in 2002–2003
Portugal
Saudi Arabia
Somalia
West Germany - 1,102 tanks were fielded.
Turkey – 1,347 tanks were fielded. Today all M47s were recycled and the steel used for civil purposes, except one tank that was delivered to the Istanbul Military Museum and one tank as war memorial.
Cyprus
United States
Yugoslavia – Total of 319 delivered during the 1950s.
And I'm still building Italeri's M-47 as well...

All those, plus "German Tiger tanks" during the Battle of the Bulge.

Looks good... not too thrilled about the indie static tracks, but since replacement workable M47 tracks are not hard to get, this might be a nice one to add to the stash

Be nice to see someone do the Spanish hex track as seen here.
(It is NOT standard T142 track but a narrow version made for M47s)

Of course someone would issue a plastic M-47M after I already have a conversion ongoing!

So you're the one. Thanks for taking the plunge so the rest of us could get one in plastic.

Yea, I started an "M" as well. Guess I'll be using just the turret...see how it fits up on the Takom kit.

Anyone have photos of the Iranian ones in action in Gulf War I? I'd be interested in that...otherwise not much interest outside of a ROK M47 that I have covered already with Italeri and DEF.

Of the two versions Takom has produced, which one did the US field?

Only the regular M47. Looks like Takom includes the earlier ladder rung turret grab handles seen on most US M47 too.
I'll have to budget for one to place beside my Italeri NJ National Guard one.

Just received notice from HLJ for payment for the Takom releases. Should be in the mail by Friday and delivered before the end of May!
Oh yea...some Iranian M47...
and not to worry about the tracks...the aftermarket will take care of that...
and decals...already available!!
Fantastic pictures! Now I want that kit. I'll have to wait until they get in the US, by then I might have money.

If you order these kits, you might as well order Archer's Casting symbols (foundry marks) for 1/35, 1/48 and 1/72, number AR88007, and then order Plastruct 1/16 Letters and Numbers, part #96001. You are going to need these materials to replicate accurate M47 foundry/cast markings. These markings can appear on the lower right rear turret side, the top of the turret, front lower glacis plate, front upper glacis plate, rear communications box, on the manlet, and, under the front idler wheel hub on the hull side plate. Then you will need to add photo etch parts to replicate grease nut/bolt to the final drive to show the oil filler and level plug. There are 2 plugs on the left and right final drive but the lower one is welded in and not used. Keep in mind...not all of these markings will be exact, or even used in all the locations. The textures of the markings even changed. Some of the applications were ignored and will not even appear in every location mentioned. There are plenty of M47 photos that show these numerous variations of casting/foundry markings. No 2 are exactly the same.

If I remember what I read somewhere correctly, the angled brake (top left muzzle brake picture) was used because flechette rounds would destroy the straight horizontal muzzle brake (top right picture) when used. Of course I could be wrong. The others I haven't a clue.
