Considering the theatre, the climate and multicultural troops involved, this I believe was a war in it self. Maybe the last 'Gentlemen's War'. That is what I 'like' about Rommel in the first place. Being a true Gentlemen.

"At least three of these vehicles were captured by the Germans early in the North African campaign ..... The first two vehicles captured probably came from the hapless 2nd Armored Division (number "2" and another) during one of Rommel's lightning strikes in April of 1942".

So with the finish date being June 1942 and the last of the 3 being captured in April, I'd say you can sneak that one in fine.

If anyone has ever read the book: With Rommel in the Desert, written by an ADC of Rommel, these vehicles are spoken of, regularly.

For those who haven't read it: Find it! It's a seriously good read.

Although Trail of the Fox was an excellent book, it's not a personal accounting by someone who worked elbow to elbow with Rommel daily.

No Prob Jan, glad you can use them. I also have this in the stash and yes it is a beast of a kit. It was one of the options I was looking at, but I have been (ahem) steered to the Dana by Gary . That is also a very detailed kit, and will be my first Bronco one....

I think a Bronco kit would make me sweat, too! If Dragon didn't offer so many different AFV's I might start considering more Tamiya, Academy, and (gulp) Italerei.

Brand new to campaigns and hoping building along with others like this will keep me moving forward. I'm getting back into building after a while away so looking forward to this. I'm thinking about the Vickers MK VIb or one of those new Gecko early cruisers, probably the A9. Haven't fully decided yet.

I'm in too. I'll be building the old Tamiya M13/40 kit. I want to keep the full length mudguards so I'll either build it as a refurbished early series M13/40 or as an M14/41 of the Ariete Division. I've still got some research to do. Does anyone know who might have an aluminum barrel for the kit in stock? I've checked all my usual sources and they either don't list it or list it as Out of Stock. I've found one for the Zvezda kit but I don't know if it will fit the Tamiya kit. I'm going to use the old tracks as I just don't have the dexterity to do indi links. Any comments or recommendations welcome

Would the Panzer III ausf. L have been active in the DAK during the specified time period? I have the Tamiya kit and would love an excuse to build it. Thanks!

The Pz III Ausf L didn't start production until June of '42 and the first 600 were sent to Russia. However they did see service later that year and in '43 in Tunisia.

Having said all that it's Gary's call so I'll just be quite and go stand in corner now.

I regard my first responsibility is to inspire people to build and complete a kit and enjoy as much of the social aspects of modelling as possible. Another responsibility is to ensure that we all make as much of an attempt as possible to follow the rules.

Of course, when dealing with history, I accept that I and most likely everyone else alive today, don't have 100% understanding/knowledge of events back then.

So, in a case like this, I have some latitude. But, I feel it is another duty to look around and see what information I can find on the subject.

Here is a quote I've found on a forum regarding Panzer Tracts 3-3:
The Bases for the Asufuehrung identification within the 8.Serie/Z.W. are the main armament and provisions for increased fording ability, as follows:
Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.J armed with a 5 cm Kw.K. L/42
Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.L armed with a 5 cm Kw.K. L/60
Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.M armed with a 5 cm Kw.K. L/60 and outfitted for increased fording ability
Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.N armed with a 7.5 cm Kw.K. L/24 and outfitted for increased fording ability

While the Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.J with the 5 cm Kw.K. L/60 where produced from December 1941 to March 1942, they where all officially renamed Ausf.L in April 1942.

So, as the authors are well regarded, and history about such minutiae is always a bit foggy, I'm going to allow it. All of the dates within the quote fall within our historical campaign dates.

Thank you for this. I've been searching for something like this. I was thinking of modeling an A9 cruiser but didn't really know if it was still in use with the units involved at the time. I'll stick to the MK VIb for now. I might decide to build the A9 anyway and I'll share it if I do. Thanks again.
