Older kit repackaged Doug, but still quite a good kit and a great choice. I have built a over the years and had no fit issues or anything of concern - typical Tamiya - so you will have fun with this one.

Hey all, I'm thinking of doing the Tamiya Valentine for this build and just wanted to make sure it's ok for the time period?

Valentine is right for the time period. See the link on the previous page for the order of battle and you will see it says:
----44th Bn / RTR – 6 x Matilda IICS, 40 x Valentine III

There are even a couple of colour plates of Op Crusader Valentine's on this page:

Welcome aboard

Darren,
Glad to have you with us. Your Tamiya Valentine and the Miniart Valentine will both do.

Peter,
Thanks again for another useful link. Now I know how to paint 1/2 of my Valentine. Missed you at QMHE Saturday.

For Operation Crusader, only 8th RTR was equipped with Valentines, but there there were far more (482 is one figure),for the later battles at Gazala.

Here's something I put together regarding markings for 1st Army Tank Brigade for Operation Crusader:

Interesting. Did they use those large red and white striped panels at this time?

Thanks for sharing that.

Yes, the white/red/white recognition flash was well established by the time of the Crusader offensive.

Thank you for the reference. It'll come in handy for certain as my Valentine kit is boxed for Russian service.

I've learned that the only certain that didn't see western service was the version with the cast forward end. I'm definitely keen to do Caunter scheme.

Peter,
Missed you at QMHE Saturday.

Gaz

Yeah, after the over 1/2 hour wait just to get in I was only there an hour or so. I am car-less at the moment and got a lift in with Wayne and his son. They had to be elsewhere that afternoon, so we kind of had to breeze through.

Not buying another car until late next year as I am taking 6 months off to travel Europe with the wife, and it is silly to have 2 cars just sitting in the garage for that long. QMHE was a bit far to cycle to, so thumb was out for the hitch

See you Saturday

Hello. Can't wait for starting this campaign. Today the tires for MAX came in from BNA Australia. Love the detail from Panzer Art.

Also the Jerrycans came in. Will post them later together with the Box art and contents of the big kit. Reading about the MAX kit from AFV Club on PMMS I found out the Jerrycans from the kit are a little of scale, to small. Panzer Art tires are Firestone Ballon with the right thread and they are massive.

Kind regards,

Robert Jan

Yes, why not take the photos right now?

Love this kit already for the Box art and the nice print of the beast.

Looking at the building instructions, it is just finger licking! What a detailed kit!

Kind regards,

Robert Jan

Okay so according to Italian Wikipedia Tenente Emmanuele Annoni shot down a Hurricane on November 26, 1941 somewhere between Sidi Rezegh and Gambut. Then on December 1, 1941 a P40 of 250 sqdn around Bir el Gobi. So that's right in the thick of it.

I was gearing up for this Folgore with aftermarket and decals anyway so this campaign is fortuitous.

Robert,
That Mammoth should be awesome! Can't wait to see it being built. I read the book "In the Desert with Rommel" years ago and first learned about the mammut.

Richard,
The MC. 202 is a sweet looking aircraft. Looking forward to it, for certain.

Hello,

It has been a long time since I joined any campaigns here, partly due to health problems, but when I saw this one I just had to enlist. I am presently modelling Western Desert vehicles and this campaign fits perfectly with my build schedule. I have just finished building an A10 using a Plastic Soldier Company kit as a basis...

I will be building an S-Model A13 with Dan Taylor's Modelworks upgrades for this campaign and probably a heavily modified S-Model PzIIIG, with OKB sprockets, idlers and track. Really looking forward to this and making new modelling friends.

All the best,

Paul

Hi Folks!

I'm excited to join this GB as this front in WW2 is probably my favorite. Lots of armor, lot of mobility battles. I have just ordered the new Takom M3 Grant which surprised Rommel at Gazala.

I'm also thinking of adding an 88 to the mix as I need to finish a Sdkfz 7 to tow it :-) I have both the Dragon and Tamiya kits so I'll think about which one to build.....
