Don, thanks for the steer on the Matilda. I have some references that show early Matildas with a rear rack for fuel cans rather than the big tube shaped tank. I think that's what you mean? So, that's probably decided it for me. I'm going to try some version of the Matilda parked up next to the bike while it is being salvaged/sold.

Now there's a heap of time to do research and try not to start.

Oh one more question. I have an SdKfz 232 early type in the stash - the one without the big armoured plate on the front. Does anyone know if it would also be eligible? I dont think I'll use it but it would be good to know just in case.

The Sd.Kfz. 232 vehicle does qualify, but a quick google image search indicates they should have the extra armour plate in front. Experiences in France revealed the need for additional protection in front. Conversely, photos of the 263 version in Africa appears not to have this added - maybe because they operated only in rear areas?

I guess you have the AFV kit, so I don't know how well aftermarket PE will fit, as Voyager and Eduard (both intended for Tamiya) include this extra armour.

What version or versions of the Marmon-Herrington armored car would have been there? I saw that there were some South African troops and that at least one of the armored car units had these, but it doesn't really specify which, or did I miss that detail.

Thanks for the info on the SdKfz232 guys. Now I'm decided, it will be an allied scene with the Zundapp making an appearance as booty.

Talking of references. If you can get it, check out Militaria Magazine, number 81 - Rommel in Libya ,1941. Its a French language publication with 80 pages of great black and white photos. Also Steel Masters number 15 has some lovely examples of finished work. The theme is Tunisia 1943 but the techniques described could work just as well for us. There's a lot on Youtube too including some colour film and some black and white that's been colourised.

This campaign looks like its going to be a winner.

I saw the other link on the Marmon-Herringtons. Now that I've seen this one, I can use either of the versions since they're all Mk II. I think I prefer the one with what I think is the 15mm gun.

Is this proper timeframe for operation Crusader? And thank you to everyone who has posted/linked pics. Very amazing images. It's terrifying how smashed some of these vehicles were.

An Ausf G from Panzer Regiment 5, the original Deutsches Afrikakorps.

Look at the hastily applied RAL 8000. Painted right over the spare wheel as well as everything else. Urgency and a shortage of paint were the causes. This would have been shortly after their arrival in Libya.

I took a crack at this a couple of years ago.

What Operation Husky campaign?

Is the hint for me?

Anybody can submit a proposal for a campaign and run it. I'm not connected to the Kitmaker Network in any fashion. I'm just a guy who likes a social aspect to modelling and the motivation it can provide to me and others who are taking part. Also the education I glean from what we share in the campaign, whether it be history or technique.

It's pretty simple to do. The main task lays in visiting the forum everyday, and paying attention to what's happening, responding, and keeping a record. I kept a record on the front page of the Tank Hunters Campaign not only for everyone else, but also for me. The last thing you want to do is get to the end of a 60-page thread and reread the whole thing looking for a detail you might have missed. But I'm sure others keep records in their own way.

If you really want one, just go to the Campaigns forum and read the: Campaign Tutorial

The real Campaigns Administrators are always willing to help if you have a question or need something fixed or updated.

If your campaign is popular, you can count on doing something on the thread every day. I think the longest spell of inactivity on Tank Hunters was three days. And there weren't many of those gaps in activity.

Tank Hunters taught me not to engage in running more than one at a time. And for me, I think it was good to have some time off between Tank Hunters and this one. Others may be different.

Does the Nike ad still say: "Just do it"
