Folks you really need to sign this petition if the photo bucket changes affect you. It is probably one of the few ways to give any blowback to this unacceptable policy change.

Ok now I got it.
Chris,
Just opened an Imgur account as well. How do you get the images to the size you've used?
Haven't gotten an email from Photobucket yet, but their site is very slow nowadays...

I am not trying to be argumentative Michael, just discussing the issue, but wouldn't it get more attention from PB if we all just close our accounts and go elsewhere?

Been a member of PB for about when they started, been paying ever since the first year, they do have other programs then $399.00 go to the site and look yourself.
That $399.99 is like for 500 Gigs. And that means you have way to much free time on your hands. No BS I have been on there for over 10 plus years and not even at a Gig yet.
Panic over?
Jeff

The other plans are completely irrelevant to this discussion since photobucket themselves have stated that 3rd party hosting is only permitted on the top tier plan.
Photobucket have hosed themselves with this one.

He's right Jeff, you need to go back and look carefully, maybe you got grandfathered in, and the terms are different for you, but the rest of us are out of luck.
This is copied directly from there site:
"o Plus 50 Plan: 52 GB of Storage for $59.99 / Year. The Plus 50 Plan does not allow any image linking or 3rd party image hosting.
o Plus 100 Plan: 102 GB of Storage for $99.99 / Year. The Plus 100 Plan allows for unlimited image linking but does not allow 3rd party image hosting.
o Plus 500 Plan: 500 GB of Storage and unlimited bandwidth for $399.99 / Year. The Plus 500 Plan allows for unlimited image linking and unlimited 3rd party image hosting."

Interesting. I didn't notice that the BBCode forum link does not load the image at the original size. This image is originally 3264 x 1836.

Eventually all of them, simply because it cost money to run the host. And with most people pulling their images off PB, well you get the idea...

John, doesn't matter too much to me.I just use whichever has the fewest clicks to an easy to use hotlink back to the site.

I would think that these sites make most of their money from advertising, the dollars will follow the users. I think photobucket either found another way to make money, and raised their rate to weed out the free users and get more of a percentage on the ones who have too much time and resources invested to leave. Or they took a gamble, and think most users would stay and pay the fees rather than go to all the trouble to switch services.
Either way, if the majority of users go somewhere else, the advertising money should follow, and when that company gets to the tipping point between free usage offset by ad money, they will take a less drastic approach than Photobucket did, and maybe offer some less expensive alternatives.
That's just my guess however, this is all new territory, we have no history with this type of service to go back and look at...
...and I also could be totally wrong, in which case historically, I DO have something to go back and look at...LOL

Carl, that was exactly the criteria I was asking about. Do you mean by your answer that they are about equal in that respect?

Not really sure. When I copy the link I use the one listed for 'websites' and just copy and paste.

The more I contemplate Photobucket's recent action the more angry I become. I am not well versed in internet technology but I learn more every day. I am a relative newcomer to the blog world - my first was the Hucks truck started here on Aeroscale at the end of January 2016 so a total of a year and a half- I'm a relative beginner.
I struggled tremendously with photo posting initially - the first page of my first blog painfully and embaressingly revealed my ignorance in these matters but with the help of Jessica and others I eventually got it. The sharing of our hobby with each other became a source of great joy for me .
I signed up with Photobucket several years ago at the recommendation of my daughter to store a few photos of one of my other passions - Norton motorcycles - because I had no i pad at the time and the pics were on my wife's digital camera. I think the sum total of images I had on photo bucket until I started my first blog here was approximately 12.
My account is the free one - I had no knowledge that they even offered anything other than the $ 12 deal to bypass the ads. Frankly, the ads never troubled me that much and I make it point to click on them from time to time because I understand that is how they make their income.
Apparently the more images one posts and the more people view them it increases the requirements ( bandwidths ? ) on Photobuckets part - again let me state my ignorance regarding this technology. Photobucket is a business that provides a service and as such they are entitled to their profits. I have since learned that they previously offered a $ 60. program that took care of the bandwidth issues - I know this because my brother in law who frequently posts his armor work paid for this program but now he - like myself and many, many others - has been told he now needs to pay $ 400. per year . How does a business make the leap to charge $ 400. per year for something they managed to provide previously and presumably profitably for $ 60. ?
As a private business they are entitled to charge whatever they like and I will be the first to defend their right to do so. What they are NOT entitled to do is vandalize other peoples' hard work by taking down the photos which they previously allowed. I don't know the legality of who owns the images once they are stored on PB - I do know they did not take the photos I posted - I did . Some of the money I earn gets stored in the bank
- they don't own it - I do. The photos did not get posted by PB - they were posted by me through my efforts - surely I should have some say in their disposition. This travesty that PB has initiated hasn't just affected us on Kitmaker - it has undone the hard work of likely hundreds of thousands if not millions of individuals who post pictures for thousands of reasons ranging from hobbies to selling things to earning their livelihood and seems to me in my very amateur awareness of legal matters to be a very real basis for a class action lawsuit.
The right thing for Photobucket to do is reinstate all the images EVERYWHERE that were posted before their policy change - let us see if they can man up and do it - HOW ABOUT IT PHOTOBUCKET - ARE YOU LISTENING ?

I'll never understood why people still use photobucket. For years people have been complaining about them and making threads like this one. Not just on the Kitmaker or other model building sites. Sneaker sites, automotive sites, anime sites, facebook, everywhere it seems like. Photobucket is garbage! It always has been, always will be. I've had a flickr account for a decade+ and never had any issues with it. I don't post a lot here, but on other sites over the years I have. I've never had pictures just disappear. Never had bandwidth issues. I had a pb account for less then a week and my pics disappeared twice.

Just as an FYI - and I am NOT defending PhotoBucket in any way - however what was stored before is still stored - it is still yours, it is not lost and you can view or download these images as you see fit. You can also close your account if you choose after downloading your images.
The only thing PB is now refusing to do is link these same photos to sites such as Armorama, eBay, Pinterest, etc.
It is reasonable to think that many third party sites such as those listed above have the ultimate goal of making some sort of profit. By PB hosting the photographs used by these sites, PB is sharing in the success of these third party sites without sharing in either the credit nor their profits.
The real challenge here is to alter PB's thinking - to find some middle ground and modify their current new business model, perhaps create a modest cost, non-commercial classification, or allow third party hosting at all three pay tiers and the tiers would be defined by the amount of monthly bandwidth consumed.

Mike, not disagreeing with anything you said but when given the choice of using a service that's free or paying a fee I'm going with free. The only reason I use any image hosting site is the ability to transfer those images to the sites I regularly post too. A lot like Internet and TV providers, I fire them every 3 or 4 years when they jack their rates up and sign up for the competitions introductory rate. I acknowledge that Photobucket is in the business to make money, more power to them. But their site is so bogged down with popups, slow as molasses and given the alternatives i.e IMGUR I opted to close out my account and delete all my images from Photobucket.
