As I said before, sites like this are better than FB. If you wanted to follow a build like this one: https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/200509#2203237

which has covered years, you couldn't do it. On many forums you can get info with out joining but I've yet to see a FB model group that you can't access without joining and I've been refused a few times. On the ones I've been on before I killed my FB account, there was more cutting and flaming than decent conversation, information, help, answers or critique. That's not tolerated on a lot forums or they have places for it and it's not because I'm a guy who wants everyone to play nice, it's because most people want honest opinions, help, answers and advice. Having fun is fine but tearing someone up just for fun can be discouraging to young/new modelers who want info. I don't social media, I don't care or need to know what you like and you don't need to know what I like. I don't live with a phone permanently attached to my hand in fact I don't have one. Most days I'm on the internet long enough to check out a few sites, buy something or pay a bill. That's it. I have a life that involves hands on doing things so I want answers not trolls.

This photobucket thing is going to kill this kind of site as more people go to FB.

Patrick, I agree with you on many of your points regarding FB.

I found that FB can be very unpleasant with a lot of hate being spread around (as happens on a lot of social media). At the same time, there have been a fair share of flame wars on these modelling sites as well, sometimes resulting in dedicated and constructive members leaving altogether.

I try to avoid these hateful discussion/posts/threads and flame wars as much as I can, whether it be on FB, Armorama, Missing-Lynx etc etc.

I also agree that following a "blogg" on FB is a PITA since it is not as structured as for example a blogg on a site like Armorama, especially if the modeling posts are mixed in with other posts by the page owner (such as holiday pics, images of their meals etc).

I myself have created a personal page on FB dedicated entirely to modeling, where I try to keep the timeline of my builds going as structured as I can.

I would hate to see sites like Armorama disappear, but with these issues with PB and perhaps more to come with other image hosting sites, it could - as you state - be the death of sites like this in the long run (unless other image upload options are provided, dare I say it, like Facebook offers).

Also: Facebook is here to stay, I have personally found that fighting it does not help (trust me, I tried), so I have "joined the hoard" and actually find i useful IF used in a proper way (i.e. not to spread hate etc, but to share information, gain new friends with the same interests, stay in touch with people etc).

I've joined a number of 'closed' modeling groups on FB and all of them police themselves pretty tightly. It's a good mix of beginners and master level modelers. That said I don't see it ever being as good as sites like this. Here you can post and research subjects in depth. My question about Kitmaker Network is for the subscriber they provide 500mb gallery storage. Can those images be linked to the regular forums as well?

The other thing is that you will see is quite often someone will start a thread on a subject that was discussed in another thread years ago with lots of great info and pictures. Rather than having to repost all that rich info, somebody will remember that old thread, post the link to it, and that info is now available to the new thread. You can't do that on FB, that kind of archived info is gone. FB is only concerned with the new and advertising and yes FB is here to stay. So was AOL, Netscape and Myspace. But forums have been around since the early, dark days of the internet.

You will all be happy to hear that editing posts is now possible no matter how old or whether or not they are blog-type posts.

I am not sure we will keep this policy in effect long term, but for the time being you can all edit posts and replace pictures or hosting with new options.

I will be looking at what we can do down the road to offer easier photos options for users making posts in the forum. Something new and different needs to happen to keep forums relevant and that has been on my mind a lot more lately.

Thanks for your patience in this matter.

Cheers,
Jim
