Been watching the trailers for the upcoming release of Dunkirk. So very hopeful that this will be good. A good historical drama is long overdue.

Just saw it tonight at the 6pm showing. They did it right and kept the pretty Hollywood crap to a minimum. Great movie. Go see it!!

And don't not see it because they used the Spanish-licensed versions of some of the German aircraft. There are only four original He111s left and none of them fly, so it was either that or cgi BS. Do we want another Red Tails?

I noticed the Merlin-engined '109 in the commercial. Still better than CGI. I'd go see it this weekend, but I'm headed out of town to go fishing.

Well, seeing as there are no flight-worthy German E-models, its okay. Certainly better than repainting a bunch of T-6 Texans and hoping no one notices.
And considering how Hollywood has wrecked rare and valuable vehicles in the past, they are lucky they got any at all. Would you trust your $7,000,000 restored and running Panther to Uwe Boll?

This option didn't prevent Battle of Britain from being the number 1 film in the United Kingdom for a total of 14 weeks...

BoB is my all time favorite movie so that won't deter me

After reading & hearing some good things about this flick, I'm planning to see it asap. I watched "Fury" five times, didn't much like it the first time and liked it less each time I watched it, so a good war movie would be welcome.

I think we need a good War Movie, like the old days: Bridge to far or The Longest Day. I just want a Movie that has less Hollywood in it, by Hollywood I mean: The all mighty American Hero that just slaughters everything in his path, for example Fury! (worst War movie ever made).
Watching the trailers. Dunkirk might be the Movie I was long waiting for. But I was let down so many times !

Endure the subtitles and see Panfilov's 28 Men. Armor heavy through fantastic model work. You'll think they got running Pzkpfw III G&H and IV D.

I found it half good and half disappointing. The sea action, and air to ground action were good, and the sound was good too.
Don't read further if you haven't seen it...
But air-to-air was crap. This movie jumps the shark when one lone Spitfire, out of fuel and only a couple hundred feet above the ground, without feathering it's prop, reverses course and shoots down a Stuka as it's coming out of it's dive.
This was after the same Spitfire downed four 109's and two Heinkel 111's. Granted, the 109 pilots made it easy. No schwarm, rotte, or any form of unit tactics. Only putting themselves in front of his Spitfire and banking back and forth until he shot them down.

Saw it this afternoon with my 16 year old son; we both loved it. Very good not withstanding the weather changed with different views of the same scene. Highly recommended.

plan on seeing it. saw a thing on tv about it and it seems Nolan shot it at the same locations as the actual events, and those fights buzzing the boats weren't cgi

Boy does he get pissed about that.
Yep indeed,as an Ex Major in the British Military, he does come unglued about that.
Nothing as a little ribbing to get the old BP up.
But then he brings up ' Kasserine Pass ',so all good.
Which reminds me to ask him if he has seen it yet.

If you are not a Durkirk historian it will help you immensely, to know ahead of time that "the mole" (not capitalized as a proper name for some reason???) is the name of the stone and wood breakwater the retreating British soldiers used to board the larger ships from. The mole was the only usable deep water structure left around Dunkirk due to the German bombings. This fact is in no way explained in the movie and the viewer is left to perhaps figure it out on their own.
Some people thought the mole referred to a spy hidden among the British troops.

I don't think the movie was intended for Americans in that even the more stayed British accents were damn nigh impossible for this fairly well traveled Yank and his girlfriend to comprehend.

I read they hired all British actors to get the accent right.
I'll wait for the DVD and watch while doing builds.

I had to go to five dictionaries; three English, one French and one Spanish.
Finally the Macmillan dictionary included this:
"Mole: a strong wall built from the land into the sea to protect against waves."
