I thought some guys would like to see my type 10 track build for my new dio underway. This is a kind of hybrid track that doesn't fit any particular mark. It will make more sense later. I like this kit a lot. I think it is very detailed and it fit pretty well so far. The sub assembly wit the trans mission didn't get low enough though. I had to shave off the top of it to fit the bin across behind the driver.
First blood.
second blood-probably where I should have gotten the trans lower ?
Dashboard done. I will add the electric wires for the windscreen wipers later.
Got some major parts on her last night. Today I scratchbuilt the two man saw behind the driver with ass. mountings. I began repairs on the trans. top portion. I added the leather pull straps for the adjustable side panels. I never knew the side panels were adjustable. I made the cushions for the back panels, with straps and added a clasp on the back access panel.
Topped off this afternoons' work with the fuel line on the gas tank and the chain on the gas cap.Added PE attachment straps to the backs of the seats and added a map holder to the asst drivers' side panel. I also never knew these drivers sat on the gas tank ! Wow.

That's great work, especially since those Dragon Type 10 half-tracks are very challenging builds. The pics of the dash show a lot of great detail.

Thanks man, The biggest issue was with that trans assembly. I didn't get it down far enough. The hood also doesn't seem long enough but for what I have in mind,it won't be seen anyway ! LoL

Beautiful work on the dash panel. Love the treatment with the Leather gloves!
Point of order Mr. Chairperson:
Never heard this vehicle referred to as a Type 10. It was either the D7 (Demag' s designation) or the "Sd.Kfz. 10" or just "the 10". Worked around two different D7's for over 5 years, one at the Patton Museum and one at a private Museum near Louisville. I have bathed them, driven them, helped take them apart, even tried to do a book on them but never heard either of the curators call them the "Type 10".
Just a small observation on model correctness.

Thanks for the motion from the floor. The petitioner will hereby be informed: The loose interpretation of Sonderkraftfahrzueg to me is "general purpose vehicle" so I find calling it a type 10 to be a shortcut. That is all.

I promise I will drop this topic but I do seem to recall that accuracy in our models is at least part of what this site is all about so calling something "what it ain't" sort of flies in the face of that effort. Also you now have 2-3 other people calling it the "Type 10."
I'm done.

I know; I feel the same when people use "mark" instead of panzerkampfwagen.

Michael and Shell-seriously dudes ? It is that important to you ?
I spend hours and hours adding teeny things to this and checking out walk arounds, etc and your take away is I am not addressing the halftrack properly ?
Having spent most of my adult life in the Infantry and on a few occasions participated in the "2 way rifle range" forgive me if shortening the name of this thing does not raise my level of concern to yours.
Absolutely no attempt was made by me to inspire any kind of negativity what-so-ever and yet, once again, the interwebs never fail.

Thanks buddy. This is a cool little track and a great kit. Loads of detail out of the box. Not looking forward to building the treads though.

Thanks buddy ! The decals on the dash are all from the kit ! Placards and all. I did have to trim them down to fit into the round openings though as they were a bit over sized. Painted some gloss on the surface first and used setting solution. Oh,and I painted the bezels dark gray before adding the decals.

Photos that might be of helpful interest to you:
Wedge shaped bracket with strap above transmission reversing gear (seen below) is to hold small screw type jack.
This D7 one ton halftrack was built by Saurer rather than Demag but no difference in detailing. (One ton is tow rating, NOT vehicle weight.)

Thanks man. Great intel pics. The walk around frenchie posted had the jack stowage on the opposite side of that side to side bin,in the rear cargo compartment and in between the rifle racks. Maybe an earlier version ? There was a bracket below the saw that was maybe for a larger ax. The dragon instructions were extremely vague about how to position the gear shifters, etc so I glued them on too low. Too late to move them now as they wouldn't make it.

As I say this one was built by Saurer rather than Demag so perhaps there were differences in detailing. Example: I have seen D7's without rifle racks on the back side of that big horizontal storage box.
What area are you working on next? Perhaps I can offer some detail photos BEFORE you build a section this time.

Here is a detail that all model offerings of this vehicle so far have choosen to leave out that I like to add: the front fender brace.

Does that little cabinet with the odd-shaped compartments come in the kit? It looks like a real challenge to scratch build.

It comes with the kit but with the door closed. You could add the handle and the lock hasp to the outside though. Mine won't be seen so I am not bothered by it much.

That will come in handy because I have the front axle canted to the side a lot because it will be parked along a sunken roadside so I think the near fender may be more exposed underneath. I am doing the running gear right now. Least favorite.
In the rear compartment there looks to be a rack behind it for some kind of canisters. I have a blog on the dio forum on here and frenchie posted pics from 2 tracks and it shows it in there.

Do me a small favor and repost the link to Frenchy's walk around. I am sure I have been a party to it but right now I cannot recall.
As to the storage compartment in the rear; are you talking about the flare and flashlight cabinet on the passenger side just under that big storage box? The inside of that is shown in the first "transmission area" photo that I posted.
