The WWII 2½ ton trucks by HobbyBoss, 838330, -31, -32 & -33 has dimensional issues with the cab. This has been discussed at length here at Armorama. The problem can be "solved" by replacing the cab with, for instance, Italeris closed cab.
I have bought all of these kits and the same number of Italeri Water tank trucks, Italeri nr 201.
These chassis, and water tanks, will now be missing cabs.
One possibility is to mate the rear chassis with the front of a US halftrack (a one off seen in Tunisia).
This leaves me with three chassis without a purpose in life.
Suggestions?

I have a (very) old VACform Studebaker cab.... but maybe postage either way (TO you of TO me) would be unecomomic?
I read somewhere that the Cab 'may' fit the Tamiya LEDG Chevvy, but that was probably the Italeri hard top

How about a simple factory scene? The chassis stacked up along a brick wall waiting to be used, axels in wooden crates, motors also.
Or, a scrap yard/collection point for destroyed vehicles and include some old shelf queens, odds & ends parts.
Good Luck !!!!

Hello, I'm sorry if this is considered a hijack...was it a difficult process to put the Italeri cab on the Hobbyboss frame? What was your process to make it a proper fit?

Robin, -- dumb question I know, but couldn't you splice a couple of the Hobby Boss cabs together to get the proper length and shape for at least one more truck? I have the Hobby Boss short bed kit, and it looks OK to me, so I'm going to use it as is, but I've thought to myself "if" I was going to lengthen it, another cab might be the solution.

No worries! The question is relevant
I haven't gotten that far yet. The web-shop sent me a notice that they have begun packing the kits. Then the shipping takes a week or so. It should be easy but I'll know more after checking the parts.

The total length is OK. The problem is that the fenders are too long which leaves too little for the cab to squeeze in behind the fenders so the door is not wide enough.
The over length of the fenders should also impact on the hood, the firewall gets pushed backwards and the hood must tag along.
I'll post comparison images showing the parts next to each other.

How about copying the cab in resin, then you'd have extras.

It was easier and almost the same cost to buy those Italeri kits instead of messing around with molds and resin ....

Doing the molding and casting yourself, the equipment needed costs a bit more than the price of a few models. I have everything needed to cast up a few cabs, but I would rather buy the models than cast the cabs. Cab body, fenders and interior parts would not be cheap or simple. Besides, you wouldn't have all those neat spare parts to tinker with.

Here's a different thought..
I currently am reworking a completed Tamiya M3 Stuart, into an abandoned vehicle dio. I even built myself a static grass applicator out of a bug zapper.
but I digress. Those "partial" vehicles would look cool, wires/cables exposed, rusting up etc.

Do an Israeli upgrade (Join the Scratch Build campaign) with this one:
Or you could go all Mad Max-ish. Chop the Cab to size, leave off the hood, etc, bang up and load up the fenders so you don't need to worry about the shape. The general Idea:
Or go Up armoured and do your own slab cab
Armoured Pill box?
Some nice maintenance pics here

I got that, but I wonder if you could splice two HB cabs together to get the proper width-- someone suggested that in the string above, but has anyone tried it? If it could be done, it would give Robin at least one more cab to work with and that would be one less "extra frame" to worry about.

You would have to shorten the hood, sides, fenders etc, & then lengthen the cab roof, doors & cab floorpan.
'Could' be done, but lipstick on a pig, a lot of work for little end result.
Easier options are to use an aftermarket resin or Italeri cab.
The Italeri water tanker can still be picked up at shows or ebay for UKP£10/USD$15, easier.
The HB hard top looks 'wrong' (for a given value of 'wrong')
My measuements here, & discussions mentioned in the link above.
But your milage may vary. As some have pointed out it looks like a Duce, and I have seen the HB cab done post-war with the doors painted a different colour.
Others will want to change the cab.
I like the scrapyard/repair yard ideas though, & if nothing else, you will have a good start to your spares box.
