I read Sun Tzu as have some in Dragon's headquarters. I know human nature and can put myself solidly into another's shoes and see things as he does.

And frankly I have been more often right in my cynicism than wrong and its left me jaded and difficult to get along with.

We may not have a crystal ball but a little imagination and careful reading of actions and statements and you can extrapolate something not far from the truth.

Frankly as has been said, we've been here before in the hobby and soft plastic accessory bits. Or even toys and figures of soft material that oozes and then breaks up.

I recently came across a bunch of 45 year old Airfix 1/76 figures that just crumbled away in my fingers. Remember when tracks were held with rubber bands in the bottom of a box? And you'd open the box and the rubber band would crumble away but some bits were somehow fused with the tracks?

More of man's March of folly. We try to reinvent the wheel and are somehow amazed and frustrated that it still comes out round.

I find speculation and imagination entertaining and enlightening but then I'm twisted that way. Don't worry I take my meds.

Oh and one big reason the thread is five pages long is because everyone quotes and replies. So we have these immensely long quotations of previous posts for a sentence or two of new comments. Cut out all the quotations and the thread is only half or even a third as long.

Hi, Steve!

I include the previous "quotes" in my posts because SOME people on this site have VERY SHORT MEMORIES, and these selfsame people LOVE to misquote ME...

Too bad we can't put in html tags to footnote our selves.

Thanks for putting a smile on my face this cold morning.

I find threads like this very entertaining where we can just vent. And some of us can get a laugh out of the human condition.

8 kits with Pz III chassis + 7 kits with Pz IV chassis = 15 kits where I need/want to replace the DS-tracks. Three of these can use the narrower tracks made by Miniart (cheaper)
One or two could get Ostketten (Riich, cheaper than Friul metal tracks)
The other ten will need metal tracks made by Friul.
Haven't counted the Tamiya Pz III/IV kits yet ...

Shermans and other types of tanks will be less costly since there are more styrene track sets (cheaper) out there.

Nope. If you check you'll find that each full page has 25 posts, regardless of their length. If the entire thread was printed out the amount of quotation would affect the amount of paper going through the printer, but it has nothing to do with the grouping of posts into five Armorama "pages".

The Swedish customs services have become incredibly efficient in catching packages coming from China and nearby countries. A couple of years ago there the risk of getting caught by customs was 5% to 10%, now there is practically zero chance of slipping through the net.
They add the VAT and the post services add their handling fee which is something like 10 - 12 USD in addition to the VAT
My plastic pusher in Germany, MBK, has free shipping for orders above 120 USD and that limit is easy to get above with a handful of Friul sets.

I am hoping that there will be enough spare links from the Friul sets used for the Pz III chassis to do a full Pz III.
Need to count the number of links

/ Robin

Edit: The difference in number of links is too small so it takes too many Pz III kits to get enough left-overs from the Friul sets to be able to make a whole extra pair of tracks for a Pz III. It is possible to mix the various flavours of 40 cm tracks so that could be interesting but I will be going for Ostketten on some of the kits and Ostketten mixed with regular tracks doesn't work

Screen scrolling length then.

Though of course that's a function of screen ratio and pixels so one could have the page so wide on multiple screens but then the page only resizes so far.

Doing webcomics I deal with this every strip I do. With so many accessing the web on a smart phone's narrow screen there's a trend towards scrolling up rather than across.

The AFV club Pz III/IV LNL tracks fit perfectly well for my Tamiya PzIII Ausf L.
Last night I used the AFV club LNL tracks for their T-34/76, it was a joy to use their tracks. However they dropped off easily. As my models are static, I just have to glue them together.
The miniart T-34 tracks are easily available though I have yet to purchase them.
The problematic tracks will be the shermans tracks from Bronco, from the instructions given it will not be easy to assemble them.

Might interest you. An article I wrote a few years back and how to build these easier.

(and yes I edit my quotes!!!!!!)

BTW. I Opened my Sexton kit last night (1st release) and found the DS tracks were hard as a rock and crumbled to pieces when bent. I also had this clear oily substance inside the sleeve but it seemed to be weeping through the packaging onto the other packets. All DS components in my kits have now been removed from boxes.

To avoid these issues about DS tracks, and rubber tracks in general, I get aftermarket metal tracks, if available. The realistic 'feel' and look is an added plus as well. If the kit has rubber tires, I also replace them with aftermarket resin, again, if available. There are plenty of kit rubber track/tire replacement companies out there now, that changing to metal or resin should/could no longer be an issue. Pretty much those companies are catching up to all releases now, no matter if the kit is a tank or a wheeled vehicle. I can afford them, so I purchase metal or resin exclusively now. Time will eventually catch up as well to kits that don't have aftermarket substitution at the moment: the Faun 900/Sdah 115 just recently released by Das Werk, is an example...resin wheel/tire kits were available almost as soon as the kit was released!

Hi Peter,
thank you very much for the article on building Bronco tracks, I will certainly re-visit your page again when I start work on the T48 tracks.
I have not decided whether to spray them or to assemble them first. I estimate spending more time on the tracks than on the tank itself.

Thanks Peter. I had left the Sherman Tracks in the box as they were still in the Polythene but on re-examining them they did have a slightly greasy feel and they are now in the bin.
