You'd be surprised with the kind of people who are into model building or might be creative. I've lived and worked in many areas of the US. The vast majority of Americans (both blue and white collar) aren't even remotely creative. Netflix, Youtube, and Facebook have done a great job lobotomizing most Americans.

Add smart phones to the list. No one talks at my work, we all sit staring at our phones. I watch tank videos, but I'm a bit of a loner and don't get bothered much.

At work I over hear some of the younger people talk non-stop about some games they play. They have created a network amongst themselves that's well structured. I suppose it keeps them out of the bars.

Do you mean that they are actually conversing with each other rather texting..?

Yes! Say, maybe I should call that believe it or not show!

Remember when you had to arrange for someone else to talk to the girls relatives to set up a proper introduction so that talking could be allowed later (with a chaperone of course ...)
Sending a conversation request the old fashioned, analogue, way ...

Me, no, more like waiting for my sisters to get off the rotary dial lead weight phone.

My Father proposed to my Mother with my Aunt in the back seat.

I'm so glad I don't have one of those things. Remember when you could have a conversation without having to send a friend request?

Oh yeah, Ana Logue. She was the one who arranged marriages in my village. We paid her 1 sheep and 2 chickens to set up the first date.

No, I grew up in Pennsylvania, not Sicily or Iran.

In the 20th century. If ye had been in Pennsylvania in 1700 or 1800 ye'd be asking permission lest ye be seen as presumptuous and rude.

And no most people are not "creative ". Many hobbies are passive activities like fishing or stamp collecting.

Provided one has a hobby. Many people just sleep, eat and work with nothing else except bland conversations. I have yet to figure out how one can text or talk for hours on the phone about essentially nothing.

Creativity? Not bloody likely.

I'm reminded of the observation that small minds discuss people, mediocre minds discuss events and great minds discuss ideas.

I don't hear of many ideas being tossed back and forth in the great interconnected-ness smart phone era. Three guys in Chicago and London and Australia create all the memes and everyone else just passes them around.

My proposal to my first wife was under the T-Tail of a C-5 Galaxy (1st divorce), the second wife I had to repeat my proposal as there was an airplane flying overhead during the first try (2nd divorce), and the third wife I proposed near the local airport (ok so far). Does that mean I should stay away from aircraft??

My first date with my wife was in the turret of an M60A1 tank (she wanted to see what the inside of a tank looked like). Two months later, I proposed to her outside the Motor Pool. We’ve been married 43 years. See, you just used the wrong equipment! Boy is this off topic now. Maybe it’s time to fold this one up and put it away?

Not very likely to happen, Russ. Myself and several others have repeatedly tried "to fold 'this one' up and put it away"- To NO avail. Some people just HAVE "to keep beating a dead horse"...

PS- John: It's not the fault of the various aircraft-

I proposed in a kitchen but that was after I'd named my M60A3 after my wife.

We have an 11 x 24 portrait of the tank in our living room.

I have yet to build a model of it, but I do have the custom decals printed.

My one oh deuce at Ft. Sill was named Amy. Two months later I met the human Amy. 21 years later still haven't shaken her loose.

Too bad none of my photos show the name - if only I'd been able to see the future.

That's rich coming from one of the most prolific posters of mainly drivel on this site. The content of which is usually to bemoan whatever is released as not being what he wants and should have been such and such. Or it's content sent off topic to relate some pointless anecdote about some experience or family member.

I think most of us realise and accept that posting on this site fulfills a huge part of your social interaction with the world at large, but pots calling kettles black comes to mind with your decrying others "dead horse" mentality.

Maybe the industry is just following their customers ...
My wife certainly has an opinion about my hobby

I said that way back on the first page of the thread.

The business model is easily explained with reason and logic, but model builders like most human behavior is not.

So the logical conclusion is that the modelers are the crazy ones and projecting their skewed views onto companies that are being quite rational.

But evidence doesn't matter, only what you believe. And the more you're proven wrong the more you'll defend your pathetic position.

Given proof that I'm wrong, I will actually adjust my views. I am a skeptic, a curmudgeon and critical thinking and induction are among few things I do reasonably well. Or so I'm told by mental health care professionals.

At least as long as the medication is working. (Insert maniacal laughter here)

If you want to see a full service hobby site go to 1999.co.jp. This is not a gratuitous advertisement, just a suggestion for what interests people outside of the US and Europe.
