Going through my stash I found a nice scheme to go with for this campaign. It is the LF Mk. IXc WZ* GJ. Pilot Maj. GarthJared (GJ), CO of 309th FS / 31st FG, USAAF. Based in Italy as from late 1943 up to early 1944, flown from Pomigliano / Castel Volturno AB. The Spits were then replaced by P-51B Mustang.

Decal sheet is the ultimate for this campaign. Besides the USAAF, gives another option to build a Sovjet Lend Lease Spit.

But the story behind the USAAF 31st & 52nd (option from the Weekend-edition) is more interesting.
Did some small research on them to get the feeling for this campaign.
See you all in a few days.

I'm not sure how to put the award banner into the slot. I'll try to figure that out next.

Hi Phil

First go to my post with the image you want, and click on Reply and Quote to open the text content of my post. Copy the Url Link between the image tags for the image you want to use.

Then Go to the enlist page for your group build. Under the Armorama banner you will see a line that starts with "Admin [Edit]". Click on Edit. That will open a new screen. On that one, you will see a hyperlink toward the right that says "Admin: Add/Update Award Image". Click on that.

This opens the award details screen. At the bottom of that there is a line that starts with "Upload Award Image - …". Below that is a field and a Browse button. Add the url of the image you copied here. Once you have done that, press the button just under the field that says "Add/Update Award"

The award should then be set up for you.

Here is an image of the 2 screens. The red boxes are the ones I am referring to.

Thanks guys! It's done!

One week to go and I can't wait. I broke down and bought a beep. I still plan to do the Valentine as my official entry, but I may slip in some photos of other things that would count

Been a long time since I heard the Dodge referred to as a 'Beep'. Which kit did you get? I built the old Italeri M6 GMC one, the version with the 37 mm AT gun, a long time ago.

I'm not sure how long it was really referred to as a Beep. I hadn't really heard of that until I started researching kits. I ordered the AFV club one. It's supposed to arrive today.

Nice link with all you need to know about colors on American Planes during WWII. Color matches for Schemes like e.g. MTO and of course the brands from Gunze up to Xtracrylix. Interior / exterior, etc.

I know the Beep name giving is related to the origin of Jeep. When released the question came up, what do you call it, the answer was "Jeep". There was a Comic named Jeep around that time. Beep then stands for the 'Water Jeep', a variation of 'Jeep', the "Beep".
Not 100% sure, I'm probably missing some details, but it was something like that

Hello. It's the first of July, so time to show what I'm planning to do with this campaign build.
Aftermarket collected over the past years give me an Eduard resin cockpit, radio insert, copper landing gear, decal sheets.

Lots of parts to play with I guess. Still some masking on its way from Eduard for cockpit canopy, camo scheme and resin exhausts.
Interior set for cockpit was planned earlier, but I canceled the build.
2 days of work to do and I have a long weekend, to start work on Wednesday again. Should be fun.

Guess there will be an official thread for this campaign?
So I will wait posting until that.

I was thinking we would just convert this thread to the official thread, but I'm not sure how it works (still a total noob here!). I can't wait to see that Spitfire though. I love that camo scheme.

Phil, I think you can ask the Campaign Admin. for a title revision: Lend Lease Campaign

Hi guys, I'm in with the Mirror Models (35805) US Diamond T 968A Cargo Truck, Late Open Cab.

Here's the proof of life photo:

The plan is to incorporate some MiniArt (35592) US Fuel Drums 55 Gals., Ammo by Mig Pinewood Forest Base (mat) and maybe a figure or two to create a simple diorama. We'll see...

Cheers!🍺
—mike

US Diamond T 968A Cargo Truck Late Open Cab history:
(from the kit's box panel)

Diamond T 968 was a cargo truck based on a 4 ton 6x6 chassis, powered with a Hercules RXC six-cylinder gasoline engine and equipped with a five-speed overdrive transmission and a direct and under drive transfer, manufacturing from roughly 1940 until 1945 by the Diamond T Motor Car Company in Chicago.

Early production used civilian instruments and other parts, then the designation was changed to Model 968A when military standard instruments and components were substituted. It was produced earlier with closed hardtop cab and then from 1943 with an open soft top military cab. Its military rule was as an artillery prime mover and mainly general cargo and personnel transport.

These vehicles were also supplied to the Allied countries through the Lend Lease Act, and after WWII numbers of them were still in use in various countries for many years.

I'll see if I can get a start picture up later. I plan to do the Bronco Valentine IX. I need to finish up a couple of projects before I dig into this one.

While I was in the mood for some cutting and dry fitting.
Made a start with th resin cockpit from Eduard. It's my 3rd, so I can almost dream the build now, but still forget the weak spots (ahum)
But no big deal, some CA for repair and it will be hidden, but...
Main parts for construction of the cockpit

Other angle, all holes from the frame work drilled and first part of PE armor plate glued.

Better view of the holes drilled

Tricky part is always the pilots seat, PE and very thin resin.
Maybe a job for tomorrow.

Also found out that the gun blisters that come with the kit are the wider version. Different from what reference photos show. However I have a photo that shows the wider one, not very clear.
Please comment on this photo, wide or smal?
Photos come from this site: https://www.asisbiz.com/il2/Spitfire/USAAF-52FG/pages/Spitfire-MkIX-USAAF-52FG4FS-WDL-Lt-Victor-Cabas-EN447-Tunisia-1943-0A.html

My artwork from Eduard shows the small blister shape.

Needs some extra research I guess.

Well some thinking about the blisters, or bulges, pointed me to take a closer look at the decals of the insignia I have.
Eduards Weekend edition provide the American roundels with a yellow ring, this links to operation 'Torch', with the bigger bulges. Insignia changed to white star on only blue roundels, showing the smaller bulges. Why? does it indicate a different canon was installed? I don't know.
So this story is not complete, will keep digging. Glad I found Edgar Brooks his notes on Spitfires in my references, will check that, see if he wrote something about it. His knowledge was incredible, we will see.

I'm beginning to understand why they call you Speedy :-)!

That's a great start. I have this feeling that as this campaign goes on my ability to resist doing a 1/48 airplane model is going to evaporate.

Hello. More progress. Fiddly parts of the seat assembled. Only 2 piece of PE missing now, will come tomorrow, first let the glued resin cure. Seat armor is still dry fit.

Next for todays assembly were the wheel wells. Just a perfect fit. Every time I'm amazed how good this kit is, engineering is top class.

One of my all time favorite kits for sure. It's a good step up for beginners also. If you want to build it OOB or want to get some AM resin in, this is a good start for a beautiful model.

Back to the bench and finish the wells and get the wings together.
Weekend!!!
