Thanks G , I use mostly craft store acrylics , cheap and a lot of volume for about a dollar fitty .
Wood elements I usually stain with various MINWAX colors .
I also use a crackle medium acrylic to get the old cracked paint look .

I'm liking the masonry tones, excellent choice!

Tim , yeah I was puzzled by the pink tones in some of the pics myself . I used raw umber as a wash and reddish brown pastel powders , funny thing is they are not as stark/pink/red as in some of the other pics , lighting ? FM ? , solar flare ?

G , that's basswood . Using acrylic craft store paints , first coat light brown , then crackle medium , then a light green . Thanks man !!
Jr , thanks bro , those are Hirstarts.com molds , no affiliation .
I was a little apprehensive at first at dropping the hammer on purchasing these molds . Scale was a question but when it comes to architectural elements horse shoes and hand grenades can be used as a ruler .
The first pic of the gate house [ 1/1 scale ] was built in 1757 and was pretty fancy schmancy for a mid 18th century chateau building . Check out the Hirstarts site , many possibilities !!

These moulds indeed look great... a lot can be done with them, but it is also easy to spend a months' wages or more!

Erwin they're worth it , at least for my uses .

Dam red hues , in real life the colors are a reddish brown on the brown side , guess the camera's partial to red ?













I think I've found the answer to the red issue . In my modeling room I have two large four lamp each flouresent fixtures above my bench . These pics on the table show a browner hue with slightly red highlights . The lighting here are just regular bulbs with a little daylight through the windows .

Amazing the level of color shades you get with the different apps of light.
The model building is ,as always,very high quality.

Excellent block work, great detail, as expected! The last set of pics shows great color.

Personally, I never use fluorescent lights in my bunker for that very reason Bro, it can change your outcome tonal-wise when painting. Plus they bug me, not a fan of them myself. They say, always use the same light when photographing that you used for painting. Then again, photographing the models is another art form in and of itself, go figure, HA!

Fantastic progress, and nice purple masonry! It’s definitely worth using a daylight globe/bulb in a lamp, but I’m wondering if the colour-balance settings in your camera software are red-shifted? Or is it green-shifted if red’s dominating, I can never remember. Anyhow you mentioned your son used his phone for some shots, it might be interesting to take the same shot on that and with your camera to compare what’s happening

Tim , my son moved out to a beach house with some of his buddies , no more camera , so I bought my own Canon power shot something or other XYZsuperdooperphantasmicpictaker .

Special thanks to Piet for the zinc roof suggestion , reminded me that I have Hirstarts molds of that very type roofing !!

Also I shut off the flouresent [ my spelling is carp ] lights and used the bulb type , much truer color , the red/brown I intended .

Yep,that'l work!
