I've seen plenty of scenes of it firing, or being transported, but none of them being packed for transportation or unpacked for action. Is there any reference to that?

Hi. I recommend: Die Geschutze, Ortungs- und Feuerleitgeraete der Schweren Flak.
Well, this of course in German, is a very detailed book on every aspect of the different 88 guns. From its origin up to the last build.
It shows how the crew sets up the gun. From parking the gun, installing and get the equipment.
send me PM if you're interested.

How to pack up an 8.8cm Flak 18. Read it here yourself -- in English, even!

Hmmm...everything you wanted to know about the 88 FlaK, but were afraid to ask! Also excellent reference for super-detailing the kit.
