Today I went to Great Models here in Utah, and I got the new Dragon Panther, kit # 6244. It is the reissue for Normandy special edition.

I paid $19.77 on sale, and this is what I got:

Excellent 1/35 Panther model
Photo Etch Screens and details
Metal Tow Cables
Special Plastic Skirt Armor pieces
Individual link tracks
Aluminum Gun Barrel
Postcard with Ron Volstad artwork.

Yep, for $19.77.

A Tamiya Panther is $45. Tamiya Tracks are $25. Tamiya PE Screens are $12. Aluminum Panther barrel is $10 - $15. Tow cables are $5.

Let see, that would run me $92 - $100 bucks for the same thing...

Go Dragon Go! And thank Great Models!

Yep,

Its all in the box, Dragon is really getting awesome in what they give you, and their prices are amazing.

I already had the Panther A late kit, and I have a set of Atak Zimmerit so now I have everything I need.

It is such a great deal, that even if I paid retail for the dragon kit, (about $31) PLUS the Atak zimmerit, the total cost is stil $56, versus $100 to do a Tamiya Panther with the same level of detail.

My total investment is less than $45 bucks. About the same as a Tamiya Panther kit.

Great buy! If this is your first Dragon, you won't go back to Tamiya. Dragon's quality is light years ahead of Tamiya, specially their 1/35 figures. If you can, pick up a Karl 60Cm Morser with the aluminum projectile, it is awesome!

thats one of the many reasons why i prefer dragon over tamiya!

most dragon kits have PE with them which is already a big plus... along with indi tracks (i HATE vinyl ones!) reasonable prices, detailed etc....

the more recent kits from dragon are all awesome...hope i can earn enough money to get all of them!

Thanks Scott. Being utterly smitten by the 'looks' of the Panther A and a good one not being available until now I went ape at the Great Models webstore

Panther A Late Type (DML/Dragon Models ) $ 25.55
Tracks Panther A-G refitted/Jagdpanther (Friulmodel ) $ 34.50
Panther A/D Super Detail Set (Aber Accessories ) $ 59.50
SUB $119.55
Shipping: FedEx Ground (USA) 8 lbs. S/H $ 6.75
TOTAL $ 126.30

Yikes! Good thing we like models. Some 'hobby' huh?
Seriously though, thanks for the heads-up.

Actually no, the Tamiya kit is a Panther G.
As for Dragons quality being "light years" ahead of Tamiya's, well that is just your opinion. There are many other people who would say the exact opposite. This is a never-ending argument, some people like one company, some like the other. As far as the Dragon Panther A kit goes, I have one, and I agree it is very nice.

Just my opinion,

Howdy Mike,

I actually didn't say that. Someone else did above. It wasn't ever my intention to compare quality, as you said Ausf A to Ausf G - its a bit of apples to oranges.

I am actually working on a Tamiya Panther Ausf. G Early right now and it is really nice. Shoot, I love Tamiya as much as the next guy. My point is that Dragon is giving the modeler exponentially more value, more "Bang" for the buck... In many cases I don't buy Tamiya kits, and buy Dragon instead. This decision is simple, same subject, same quality, much more value.

As much as I like Tamiya, (Their 1/16 Tiger 1 is my favorite kit I own) I cannot help but be impressed by Dragons value, quality, and the range of what they are offering.

Best,

Scott,

If the Tamiya 1/16 Tiger 1 is your favorite model kit you might have a look at this thread... https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/28285&page=1 I have undertaken a long-term extensive detailing of the thing. Magnificent kit with which to base a 'project'.

Am looking forward to the Dragon Panther as Cookie Sewell gave it an excellent review.

Cody,

That Panther should be SWEEEEEETTT! Maybe we will see it here, someday?

With regards to the Tiger, yeah I have been watching that one. I LOVE the Tiger. I got the $200 Aber Super set for it, and some day I will do it justice. It is my favorite subject to model, it is my favorite model, it should be a blast. Today I brought home a diorama buddy for it, the Trumpeter T-34!!! LOL!

BTW, you should try some Atak or Cavalier Zimm if you haven't yet. That stuff is AWESOME! I did my Panther G in about 3 hours, and it would have taken me about 20 to do it right with putty and zimm tools.

Catch you later,

Scott
