Okay...this is a simple request. We use to get a lot of suggestions about how to improve the site in the early days. And I know some of the regulars probably don't approach me with ideas as much as they use to because they are worried I am too busy. But... we still need new ideas!

So...if you have an idea on how to improve Armroama please let me know. OR if you are not a regular visitor please give me an idea of what would help to make you one.

What do you like about the site?

What don't you like?

What new things would you like to see?

How do you feel we are doing on new content?

Quality of features?

Those are just some ideas.

Thanks for your input.

I hate to suggest something when I know I'm not a big contributor, but I'd like to see more step by step stuff. I like to be able to see how things went together as well as how they look when they are done. I have been meaning to do a SBS on the German ambush scheme, but............. I am almost finished with a Tiger II. Who knows, maybe I will contribute something after all.

Ah, a post just in time. Jim, I see you recently changed the members page: I like that it shows all the new members for a specific country with their avatars, but I think there should also be a link that would show all of the members for a country, like we used to. As far as the content, I think we're doing great... at least on the main site.

There is still a link on that page in the upper right that says "show all from *country*". It basically takes you to a version of the members listing page that only shows members from the specified country. Not every person on one page obviously but this seemed better for not taxing the database on larger countries.

Cheers,
Jim

Patrick,
An excellent observation. Yes we could definately use more articles that get down to step 1, step 2, etc.

Thanks!

Hi...
thoughts out loud...

Overall I’m very happy with site and the steady improvements we regularily see.
I do like the new style of the gallery; it is so clean and stylish, allowing the pics to do the talking without any sacrifice to titles or text etc and I wonder if it might have a future influence on the main site.
However, the main site does work and is very easy to navigate, unlike ArmoramaUK., which is not the easiest to use in spite of the excellent work by UK Staff, even though it is well worth the effort. Maybe the MSN format strangles any possible improvement.

1. I do tend to agree with Patrick (PLMP110) in that it might be good to have more step by steps. Say after a IBR of a kit, a follow up build. This would see if what looks good in the box actually goes together as it should. The downside of this is it would be time consuming for anyone to do, especially as we are not full-time pros running a pukka magazine type thing.

2. Maybe a heros and villians section with regard to manufacturers and/or suppliers who do well or fail badly.

3. A mass delete function in personal galleries.

4. Maybe a featured section each month or so....in turn...Armour, Aircraft, Ships, Figures, Sci-Fi etc. A way to keep all the topics fresh and in focus.

5. A similar feature of how any particular campaign is doing again to bring focus to what is current.

(4&5) I realise that all referred to in these can be found in forums but as a means for attracting new members from regular and casual visitors.
I also realise there is a listing of such events.

Cheers
Peter

I agree with the mass delete on personal albums in the Gallery. Also what would be good for me is to be able to upload pics to my gallery and then to be able to create a new album and shift them into it from there. I know we have the ability to shift stuff to other sections but not to folders within our own gallery.

I am trying to get some magazine type articles up and currently have one waiting in line along with stage two of the chev heavy recon wagon step by step. I also have 3 more magazine type articles in line to be put up on armorama as well.

Doing this sort of article (step by step as well as the magazine type articles) is not everyones cup of tea and they do take a lot of effort and time to do.

I have been asked by an english magazine for more articles and as I do them I do a slightly different format of the article to go up on site. But if I did spend more time doing articles then I would do no modeling so the stuff the articles are about would stop.

I would also like to see the Campaign area cleaned up, especially the approval of them. I know that Guntruck normaly pre approves them before passing them on to staff Jim but as we all know gunny and Jim are busy men.

This is just my 2cents worth

Cliff,
You can move images from somewhere in your member gallery to an album in your member gallery (or out of one). You have to click the "Edit Photo" link though and use the move pull-down on that screen (not the admin one that you see on the main image screen). You will have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the list I think to see your member albums.

Cheers,
Jim

I would like to see a pop up box for pasting links or images. I've seen this on other sites and it is allot easier than highlighting and pasting into a post.

Hi again
....another idea...if its not too dificult.

I wouldn't mind being able to send or recieve images in pm mode.
Yes it is sort of for personal reasons...lol....it'd make banner/award design work a little easier.

I would like to extend the Step By Step idea.

These features can become fairly lengthy and involved (depending on what the item is of course). Many times the 'wish' for an SBS is made 'after the fact'. Someone sees a completed project and someone else says - "COOL how'd ya' do it" Well unless the idea was planted PREBuild it's a bit late.....

So - may be a 'wish list' somewhat like an RFP in the research/contract world. An RFP is a "Request for Proposal". Some one asks for an SBS and someone else volunteers to write it up and submit it.

I like the way the site is growing. The idea of more step-by-step stuff is great!! But I would like to see more short video material. I would contribute if I could, but I'm more of a pupil than a teacher. I also know the size of videos are huge, but short and sweet could be manageable maybe?? I have the equipment, but not the knowledge...

Nothing really new, but let's get the next AGE Campaign going. The concept is already laid out, with the intent of these campaigns being to promote the site, while promoting the skills of our young modelers. Everybody wins.

I agree..... I thought we already had the second one set up, and ready to kick off.

As for the step-by-step.... good idea, but wouldn't that be up to the wrtier as to how he wants to write his article?

I'd like to be able to search gallery photos by ratings as well as most viewed, etc.
I know this is possible to do searching your own gallery photos (well okay not by ratings), but I am not aware of being able to do it for other members pics?

I also wish it would be possible to enforce a title of picture when adding it....i.e. if you try to add a photo as e.g. "untitled12" that you would be told to enter a correct title for the photo......this would aid photo searching......although probably an impossible task to set up!
It's just that I am sure when searching the site for inspirational pictures of a particluar vehicle, I am sure I am missing 30%-50% of possible pictures I could be viewing due to them being untitled......I'm probably as bad for adding "untitled" pictures in my gallery as anyone else!

Carl all my photos are in seperate albums with the title of what they are. As I have something like 4000 pics on site it would be a major effort for me to label each one individually.

However I do see the merit in this idea and I think members who only have a few pics on site should title them correctly.

My other moan is I wish folk when they submit to rivit review forum (or any other for that matter) would put a couple of pics in the post and then a link to where the rest of the pics are and not just put a link (which is often not live) in the post.

Apart from that I think that most of the ideas suggested are worth looking into.

Just my 5cents worth of moaning

I'm an Australian we are allowed to moan :-) :-)

How about more military manuals about all sorts of stuff from armour to trucks to ships, color photo's of uniform camo's.

That was just what I thought I try to find in search engines and come up empty.

This site is a great resource and I wouldn't have gone into armor if it wasn't for this site and it's people.

Maybe could you add video demestrations on how to do certain things that is my biggest fear is it's one thing to talk about it but to see it being done is something different.

That might be a work load on the server but that is what I think would take this site in my mind to the next level.

Thanks for letting me get my 2 cents in.

Happy Modeling

P.S. A thought while watching the Yankees and Red Sox game; could we have a contest like they do in shows, because some of us can not go to shows so maybe we could do a add on extra some how for a contest. And maybe a small fee to enter.

I would like to see a list or refrence section for kits, ie. a listing of all the manufacturer's of M4 Shermans and how the kits are rated by accuracy, fit, detail etc. etc.
It would help the new folks to find something that interests them, but allow them to know the pluses and minuses of a specific kit, just my 2 cents.

Ola

Well I have a couple of things wich I would love to see changed. One point is something regarding the Gallery wich I have to do myself together with Cliff. My point is that my idea is that every member has the ability to move their pics into the Armor section or the Ships section or the AC section. Problem with this is that the Gallery gets flooded with loose pics wich are not in folders. When you look into the Armor/AFv section and you choose WWII then you see 11 folders with vehicles but then 35 pages of Loose folderless pics. I would like to see all of them being put into folders but as the regular member doesn`t have the ability to make a folder in the other sections except for his own gallery space they upload the loose pics. In my opinion a solution needs to be thought up for this. It`s quite a job to search through 35 pagesfull of seperate pictures to find that single vehicle you are interested in. I have to say it`s not only the Amor/AFV section that has this problem but actually almost all the Folders/Sections have it. My goal is to have it all put in folders and no or almost no loose pics in the folders. Maybe we have to go back to a system that people send pics to the Photoeditors so they can be uploaded into a folder. Also the amount of pictures is important. The more the better in my opinion. In the old Gallery a lot of good work only has 2 pictures wich I think is a pitty. Maybe we should add a minimum amount of pics for a project to be put into a folder in the Gallery.
If somebody does`nt like this then please say so and give feedback.

Another point I would like to see changed is the Reference/Walkaround part of the resoures section. I would like to have the links to all the walkarounds in the Gallery being visible on 1 page. Now only the last 20 are visible. I consider Walkarounds to be a very important aspect of modeling. My idea of the Walkaround section would be something like this:

**AC (in very lame Armor modelers knowledge)
- Dakota
- Spitfire
- Mustang
- F16
- Starfighter
- Etc.
- Etc.

**Armor/AFV
- Challenger
- Cruiser
- Sherman
- Brencarrier
- T55
- Hanomag
- Etc.
- Etc.

**Ships
- U boat
- USS Enterprise
- Rowingboat
- Etc.
- Etc.

**Uniforms
- Woodland
- British Para
- Seal
- Etc.
- Etc.

Well you get the idea. All the links to the Walkarounds posted in the gallery on 1 just one click away from the homepage. Why? Well simple even when a modeler doesn`t intend to superdetail a vehicle he will still look up pics of the vehicle he is working on. Be it inspirational be it for small things he notes that he can easily modify. In my opinion having a good and accesable Walkarounds section is a must have for the site. I don`t know if the above could be realised still this would be a very good step

Further I have to say that all the modifications on the site till today have been very good. and carry on the good work.
